You know he was doomed from that moment on.

Utah State could find a great niche in the Big Sky, and there are regional rivals in Weber, ISU, Montana, and Montana State. The athletic budget would be near the top of the conference instead of near the bottom of the WAC.
Worse yet: talk of hiring top High School coaches because they're used to winning in High School. Even worse, feel-good talk of dropping below D-1 level. Enough of caving in! Real growth comes from playing better foes, not lesser foes for an illusory, hollow "victory" (NOT!)
A conference is for dozens of sports, not football alone, and college is for education. USU graduates most football players, few of whom will make football their career, and they now avoid jail.
USU has progressed (so why fire Guy?), playing ever better as the season progressed, winning more respect from foes but not those faint of heart. USU plays against teams of far more resources than USU gets from distant Wasatch Front legislators who fund pro-soccer stadiums but starve USU pay, scholarships, education, research, resources, facilities, sports, housing, everything.
Idea: cut injuries in football and add more fans in seats: do more home games early in the fall for frozen-tundra sites like USU and Wyoming, later games in warmer climes.
I believe that Boise State will be invited to join the MWC soon and that will have a huge impact for USU and the WAC. Utah State should be able to benifit from this change more than anyone in the WAC. USU will become the school with the nicest facilities in the conference and thus be very appealing to recruits over the other WAC schools. The playing field will also be leveled and WAC competition will tighten making things much more interesting when football comes around.
I say they stick it out a few more years in the WAC to see if they can get competitive, but the very competitive Big Sky with great regional rivalries would not be all that bad a move!
I truly hope you find someone that can recruit and return USU to glory.
Bucky Orton, coaching at Kanab HS; USU alum. Kidding! I don't care who you hire, you do not want to hire a HS coach for a Div-1 College Football program. That said, I'm not too surprised that Guy is gone. He's done some improvements, but just not quick enough. Here's to hoping that the Ags can get a decent coach for next year, someone that is to football as Stew Morril is to basketball.
Montana gets 25000 a game
Wins at football
belonds in the Wac
Utah State is good at basketball
Sucks at attendence
Should be in the Big Sky.
Just make the Trade!
Terrible recruiter and even worse gameday coach. NEVER MAKES ADJUSTMENTS.
Anyone looking at Baer is an idiot who has never seen one of his teams play.

You know you are going to get the dregs from California and Texas.
You will get fourth or fifth choice of in-state recruits.
You are going to get drilled in at least two money games every year.
In spite of all the above there has to be an optimist somewhere that would love to come to Logan.
ANYONE? ANYONE? ANYONE?
