I'm pretty good at NCAA football 2009... Can I have a shot at it? I have a great record with recruiting as well. After my last season, I pulled in eleven 5 star recruits and nine 4 star... That class could turn USU around overnight...

Thanks to Utah State. As the article states their has been improvements in the football program but not enough to produce more wins.

As a Utah State fan don't bring John L. Smith back. We want wins.

If they don't hire a former Aggie (coach or player) who was there during a successful period of time, then they have not learned their lesson!

USU should look for young new talent, Alta's head coach Les Hamilton would be a great fit for the Aggies. He knows how to win and that's an environment that the Aggies need to engender among their players, fans, administration, and the Big Blue Club.

With how Ut. State schedules football they should just promote the DC or OC. They are set up to fail. Unlike basketball where they let Stewy schedule a bunch of cupcakes they schedule very tough road games for the football team. Until they change the scheduling philosophy a coach will never survive up there.

I can't imagine why any coach from either Utah or BYU would want this job. Anae, in particular, is probably looking pretty good for offensive coordinator at a BCS school, or head coach at one of the better non-BCS schools (though he may have to hang out another year or two and prove himself at BYU). USU is a dead-end.

USU might be best served with Mark Wahlberg, he played a kinda successful football player in a movie once, I think he would fit the bill nicely.

My vote goes to John L. Smith! Brent Guy was a defensive coordinator and we didn't know how he would do as a head coach. Turns out he didn't do too well. What Utah State doesn't need is an other risky offensive or defensive coordinator that might do well, let alone a high school coach!! Utah State needs John L. he led them to their most recent winning season and bowl game. He beat Utah 2 times out of 3 and competed well with byu. After all he did well enough at USU to get the Job at Louisville. He succeeded here once why wouldn't he again??? The program has better facilities and is in a better conferense with more talent than last time he was here!!

John L Smith would be a fantastic rehire. When he was coaching, the Aggies actually won more than 4 games a year. You could always look into Charlie Weatherbie.

I agree to a point with Uh..., no high school coaches. Look at some Jr. Colleges like Cottonwood or Timview.

Kyle: Already in the works. It takes a few years to rework the schedule due to the nature of OOC contracts, but the AD is committed to no more than 1 body bag game and will bring in a lower division school for one home game. Remaining OOC games will be scheduled against schools within our competitive sphere. Personally, I'd be in favor of dropping BYU for 5-10 years and only play Utah every other year.

Hire Greg Croshaw! He's a proven winner at the jr college level for years and is now doing a heck of a job at Pineview high school. He is a local polynesian favorite and is a great recruiter.

The Aggie's Just need to go over the Mountain to the West if they want a Great New Coach that can win Next Season and that Guy should be Bear Rivers Head Football coach Chris Wise even though we would miss him. I love to watch Aggie Football and he would be the right Guy for the Job. He played College Football and has Won 3 State Football titles in 5 Years. He more than likely would know how to Recruit from his College days. He would be able to get one of the Best Athletes that has ever Played in Utah to come and Play and that is Jason Zundel that is Playing college Baseball, but if Wise was the Coach he would come and be a Aggie. He is also Great with the Lineman which is needed badly at USU. If I were The Athletic Director I would at Least give him a Interview. He also Runs a Spread Offense like they do in the SEC. Good Luck with your Decision, because it is the future of USU Football.

Now if the Aggies play Utah every year home and home as is the tradition at least one of the country's longest rivalryï¿½s will keep growing and every so often if an Aggie win comes along the Utes would be disappointed but at least they have respect.

Why not get LaVell Edwards two cents on the new hire? After all he is an alumni and played his college ball there. He certainly could recommend a good prospect from all of his contacts in NCAA football. Then let him be a part-time consultant for a year or two and see if his knowledge will develop a new direction for the lowly Aggies. Just do it.

I turned the USU program around at least 3x over in NCAA 2006 and eventually led the Aggies to lead the nation in yards allowed and points scored. I'm throwing my hat in for defensive coordinator.

I agree with Anonymous at 2:48. Playing BYU and Utah in the same year should never happen. We should set it up so we play one for two years (home-away). Than alternate to the other team for the next two years. Weber State, and SUU would be good games to pick up.

I think I echo every Aggie fan when I say I am excited to see who the next Coach will be. I wish Guy good luck, he did bring some good changes, it's too bad they didn't translate to more wins.

Too bad for the Aggies, they missed their chance a few years ago when they could have had Ron McBride. The timing was perfect for Ron, but they would have had to eat a couple more years of Guy's contract, not just the one.

Now look at what he's done for Weber State!

The only problem is that I don't think he would have ever have wanted the Logan job. We all know how some Aggie fans can be, unrealistic.

Find a coach that has been in a good program for a number of years. It is a program that you are trying to build not look for the next best coach. Coaches can usually explain or talk X's and O's but, only a few have what it takes to run a good program. Find the program that you want to build around and then select the coach that offers the best leadership.

Well Ag fans, I'm a Cougar fan and I'm all for not playing Ut. State! Playing USU does nothing for us. If we win we are suppose to, if we lose it doesn't help us. I'd much rather drop USU than play them. There is absolutely ZERO reason for BYU to ever play in Logan.

I have thought for severl years that the Aggies should drop down to the Big Sky. Let them build up the program and actually win a few games then they can think about playing with the big boys again. Boise State was once in the Big Sky and look how the have come along. It is a long process but one that is worth the wait.

is the key to renewed success. If the new coach continues to ignore Utah athletes, the apathy for USU will continue. There is a lot of local talent that the Aggies seem to ignore. I'd rather watch them lose by giving athletic scholarships to Utah players than lose with out of state players.

The move to the Big Sky would be a good one. I believe the BSC would greet them with open arms. It would create a situation where they can compete every year.

That should also help in-state recruiting. Right now I believe they are actually tied with Weber for the 3rd level in the State. Utah and BYU get their choice followed by Snow. Then comes USU and Weber followed by Dixie and SUU.

Playing even one body bag game (I like that description) plus Utah and BYU is almost a guaranteed 3 losses. That is still down from the 4 or 5 now.

We would never want too lose Chris Wise, he is a Great Coach. I Love to watch the Aggies as well and I think he has what it takes to win at the Next Level. Their is nobody at Bear River that would want too Lose Chris Wise he is Great with the Kids and he knows how to Win. If you Translated that Comment I made about Wise you are wrong. He just deserves a chance to be the Aggies next Coach is all I was saying. Wise is very well liked by all that know him and know that he relates good to the Players and Parents. I would hate to see him go, but he Deserves a chance at the Job. Coburn would also be Great. My son played for him and he is good with his players as well.

What about Keith Uperesa? He is another offensive mastermind with Utah & Hawaii ties. He was Head Coach at Snow, an assistant at Utah & is currently O-Line coach at UNLV. The man can recruit, command respect, and put points up in a hurry.

I can't believe all of ths banter about hiring a high school coach. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Did you folks ever consider there may be a slight difference between high school and college (let alone a Junior College!)? It's futile to waste your time saying how USU needs to hire a HS coach because NONE of those guys are even close to being qualified as the head coach of a D-1 school. They may be qualified to be an assistant coach, but never as the head guy.

I too wish Utah State would move down to the Big Sky, we will never be competetive playing big time football. Boise State made the leap up successfully because they play in Bosie and ar the only game in town. The Aggies have to compete for fans and money with BYU and Utah. Obviously a loosing proposition. In the playoff league we could not only compete but would stand a good chance of winning the national championship something that will never happen at the BCS level.

I've been attending the Aggie games since I was in grade school 30 years ago. I still do. I still will. But BOOOOOO Scott Barnes! This program is what it is. There are positives to being an Aggie fan. And, I've been proud of the way Brent Guy has stuck to his plan to build this. It's a long term process against impossible odds. He made progress. He finally has new facilities to use as a recruiting tool to add to the progress. He finally has been able to fill all the scholarships. They are finally putting the ball in the endzone. He showed his commitment and loyalty to this struggle. Call Me Crazy, but he deserved one more year year of commitment and loyalty in return. Scott Barnes has all the answers now, I suppose. But, this season ticket holder says BOOOOOO! However, it's still a great experience to travel to Logan and watch a game in such a beautiful setting....I'll be there...a fan is a fan is a fan.

Getting a high school coach in Logan would be tough especially Hamilton or Peck. They can get better recuits where they are right now then trying to fight Utah, BYU, Weber State, SUU, and Snow for recruits.

As for the schedule tough schedule that can not change as it would mean the program would go belly up. Playing those big name teams also gives USU the big pay checks to keep the program sort of close to the black.

Good luck to who ever they choose they will need motivation, drive, patience and an act of God to pull this one off.

The next coach could be a high school coach and have more success than Guy, but if they can get someone with D1 head coaching experiance then they should. The second choice should be a D1 Offensive coach that played D1 ball.

Local Talent! enough, do you think Oregon only recruits Oregon players? and if they did they would not go to a bowl game every year. Yes the state of Oregon has alot of talent too. Check out the NFL QB's.

Drop the BIG SKY talk. With a good coach this year and last USU would have had 5 or 6 wins.(Idaho, Hawaii, Fresno, N.Mexico St, LaTech and maybe BYU & UNLV)

If you want to win at Utah State you need to do something unique like the triple option. Joe DuPaix who is at Navy is from Salt Like City and you know he would recruit local, knows the area and would be a great HC!

New AD axes struggling but improving coach. New AD hires quick-fix, young coach. Football team has a couple of great years with Guy's recruits. New AD and new Coach win national praises. New AD and new Coach get big new contracts at big new schools. Kind of a familiar story at USU.

USU needs someone that has experience in turning a program around. That is why if John L. Smith is in the running it should be him. Look what he did at USU, He beat Utah 2 games out of 3 took us to a bowl game. He did leave us and we lost the bowl game, but we were there! Then look what he did at louisville He took them to multiple bowl games. But before he got there they were considered one of the worst football teams in the country the three years before he got there. In my mind John L. is USU's Savior. He can and will turn the program around in 2 years.
