Gay-rights activists call for LDS help

FACT: In the U.S., a couple's marriage is legal only when notarized by a government entity (aka: your county clerk's office), NOT by your church official.
FACT: If a couple wishes to incorporate religion into their marriage, they have that right... But the religious aspect is not what makes it a legal, binding contract.
FACT: "Traditional" marriage is a fabricated term used to spearhead the anti-homosexual agenda. Had we not seen the error of our ways years ago, we might still define "traditional" marriage as a union between a man and woman of the same race, as it was until the 1960's... We knew that type of discrimination was wrong then, why can't we learn from our past and make things right today. ALL HUMAN RIGHTS SHOULD BE EQUAL RIGHTS.
In California we voted to keep marriage traditional and why the church is being targeted is a mystery to me since the church members make up about 3% of the population. Where are the marches on other churches?
I didn't want my grandchildren to be forced to learn about Gay Marriage as part of the school curriculum, or my church being sued because the Bishop refused to officiate at a Gay marriage. That is what would have happened had Prop 8 passed.
were you being serious, or just kidding? I'm hoping just kidding, or you are seriously misinformed...
"lifestyle of pleasure"? what? do you actually think that is what this is about? and if so, what planet are you from?
It's unclear what you are afraid of. You even state that gays can't produce kids. So infertile couples shouldn't be allowed to marry either?
Face the facts - you are homo-phobic. But gay people aren't going away. You seem to think if you can just keep them down, they will go away. Kind of like what the South thought about persons of color. Now we have a black man in the white house - so that didn't work out too well for you. We have gays serving all sorts of public office.
Your deceitful ad about teaching "King and King" in school bought you a little time, but lies rarely prevail over time.
And the gay marriage issue will go to court, and Prop 8 will be struck down since it's a clear violation of civil rights.
And you will have to live with the fact that people want to be happy, regardless of your religion.
I personally think that it's a mix of both. But that still doesn't change the fact that I think that we as cognizate beings have control over our behaviors and that anyone who chooses to not PRACTICE a homosexual lifestyle can do it.
And PS, there is a definite balance in the letter/spirit of the law. The law is there for a reason, we are supposed to practice the law with the RIGHT INTENT. That is the spirit of the law. Practicing the spirit of the law does not mean that we can do whatever the heck we want in the name of "love".
Well their are people out there that love:
Cocaine
Heroine
Pot
Meth
Adultery
Lying
Cheating
Stealing
Etc.
And it's the truth, they truely LOVE all these things with ALL THEIR HEART! I'm not being sarcastic nor joking. Some relish in the chance to take advantage of people, or take drugs, or boink anything that walks by regardless of their wife and kids objections.
We can Love anything we want. But it doesn't make that definition of Love right.
I support rights for my gay/lesbian brothers and sisters. The rights that will give them medical benefits, workers rights, hospital visitation, beneficiary rights etc... I do not support any law that would give them adoption or any right that still distorts the spiritual and/or natural laws of parenting already in place.
It's so sad how little-minded you all are and how hate-filled most people in Utah are regarding others they percieve as a threat. While I am not a homosexual myself, I strive to love others unconditionally - isn't that what we were taught? Oh wait...Mormons are a bit afraid of education that might make them think beyond the Ensign, unconditionally means without conditions.
Didn't we lean in Church that God is the judge and he will decide. Wasn't it Satan who thought he knew best and attempted to restrain the will of God's children so they would only know the right? Sounds like so many of the citizens of good Utah, without thinking, think like Satan.
Interesting.
If gay activists prevail, not only will gay "marriage" be taught in public schools, but also gay sex, in all of its deviations, in sex education classes. That will not only put damaging thoughts into curious adolescent minds, but will also bring much misery to those people who, as a result, become entrapped in gay behavior and the gay lifestyle. There has been a steady progression from the gay movement - from allowing this immorality in the privacy of one's home to showing it on television, in the movies, and on the internet at public libraries to public acceptance through "marriage." Next gay behavior and the gay lifestyle will be taught and promoted in public schools, perhaps even as a preferred or a trendy alternative to the natural family.
Tom, didn't this happen to YOUR religion not 150 years ago??? Heaven forbid we let a MORMON teach our children!
It is amazing how quickly history is forgotten.
It is incorrect to say that over 50% of heterosexual marriages fail. This is an urban myth. The true % is less than that -- more like 40%.
The argument over Choice for Gays has been going on for decades. Almost ever student of the subject agrees that most gays have some biological / environmental reason that led them to their propensity. To label it a Choice is too strong. Some gays have apparently changed their orientation, but those are few.
LDS do not practice polygamy, when the government told them to stop they did. You either know that and are using polygamy as a baseless argument or you don't know much about the church. We believe in obeying honoring and sustaining the law. That's why noone is vandalizing your places of worship, business etc.
In other words - being gay is BAD. Being gay is WRONG. Being gay is ABNORMAL. Being gay is IMMORAL.
Where did you get that from? is that a religious tenet? Just because people are different, doesn't mean they are bad, wrong, abnormal, nor immoral.
Whay makes your way right? Because to have children you need a man and a woman? So only those types of couples should exist?
I'm ASTOUNDED that you people have such closed minds, and are so homophobic.
And for the record, I would MUCH rather have a gay person teaching my children than a mormon. At least they will keep their personal life out of their teachings. You people would throw all kinds of religious leanings into the curiculum, just to try to get converts. Gays don't want to convert people - they simply want to be accepted.
Unfortunately, religious zealots are the least accepting people on the planet. Anyone different is beneath you.
and no - I'm not gay - but I'm also not a closed-minded religious zealot....
I hope all of you gay people enjoy being my servants in the Celestial Kingdom. I promise not to be too hard on you.
******************************************
Dear John,
I promise you that any 'gay people' who make it to the Celestial Kingdom will not be servants to people with your attitude.
I know changing desires, tastes, compulsions, and temptations is hard. Twenty years was a long time for you to struggle, unsuccessfully. This is not proof that change is impossible, though. I know of multiple cases where people have been gay and then become straight, some through help of psychiatrists, some not.
Likewise, the opinions of professional organizations are not evidence of universal truth or even "facts", but simply the studied opinion of a committee of members. Not everyone in those organizations believes the organization's position.
Whether some people are born with homosexual tendencies and whether they can all be changed in mortal life is unknown from a scientific viewpoint, and unanswered from an LDS doctrinal viewpoint. It doesn't matter, though. God's commandments apply equally to everyone, no matter what temptations are stronger for them or what their personal tastes are. Yes, this can lead to a life with large areas of unfilfillment, and that's a sad truth. However, ultimate fulfillment is the promise of the NEXT life for those who endure this one well. Be patient and keep God's commandments even when doing so is unfulfilling and God, who created you, will reward your sacrifice.
Gay marriage supporters, you had better be prepared for these actualities. Not only will your neighbors be Ted and Jack but also Peter, Jane, Sarah and Sally. Any laws against polygamy when gay marriage is legalized completely crumble.
Kinfolk said "Jed move away from there"
Said "Californy is the place you ought to be"
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars (Beverly Hillbillies)
Any legitimate interests that same-sex "couples" have can be protected with legal documents that are readily available, such as special and general powers of attorney, wills, and other private documents. Services such as legalzoom.com can assist in preparing these documents at minimal cost. In other words, special legislation is not needed and would be dangerous.
Indeed, one significant problem with civil unions or any type of legislation aimed at mainstreaming same-sex relationships is that activists will use those footholds to demand more "rights" and engage in further litigation to eliminate any distinction between marriages and same-sex relationships. They have already shown that they will do so. It is the proverbial camel's nose in the tent, and it would be unwise even to open the tent flap.
It's about finding that one person that you want to be with, regardless of their sex. The one person that completes your life. If a gay man or woman found that one person, and they were the opposite sex, they wouldn't care. They would want to be with them.
many gay couples have been together for decades. You all seem to think that gays dress weird, and are just weird people. Fact is, you can't look at the average gay person and know whether they are gay - other than the fact that they are genuinely nice people. So it stands to reason most of you posting here are not gay.
your problem is you watch too much tv, and believe that the gays hanging around Holywood and Vine are typical gay people. They're not - they are extremeists, putting on a hollywood show. Just as you are extremeists, putting on a religious show.
no, I'm not gay, nor mormon (thank God)
That is the big lie. There is no true happiness in this lifestyle. Wickedness never was happiness. You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible!
The REAL "John Pack Lambert" usually writes much more in detail and cites orthodox scriptural/church teachings. "CAPTAIN MORONI" is clearly an anti, hoping desperately that appropriating a scriptural name will lend his/her comments some credibility. Both these posters are trolls.
The DesNews needs to require registration and require posters to identify themselves in some way, or this same kind of troll-heaven garbage will keep happening.
i don't hear Mormons condoning this practice. Yet it's in the bible too in the same story. IF you really believe God is against Homosexuality than you must also agree that offering up your children for sex with strangers is of God too.
Think for yourselves people. Use your heart and direct connection to God.
why do you insist on pushing your religious beliefs and keep mentioning God, as if God said somewhere "don't be gay"?
and why on earth would you suggest something as ridiculous as don't be gay and God will reward you in the next life?
So gay people should supress their feelings and be "normal" for their life so they can be rewarded by God in the afterlife? WOW - talk about pushing your religious beliefs onto others. No offense, but - you do realize that most people don't believe that, and in fact think you're way out there believing something so incredible... I realize that is your religious belief (just like scientologists believe in a similar thing) but you do understand how crazy that sounds, right?
yet we don't ridicule you (even though it's an easy target). We don't ask you to change, even though your beliefs stretch even the wildest imagination. You should give gays the same amount of respect.
They don't want to change you. You shouldn't try to change them.
No, you're a closed-minded ANTI-religious zealot. An honest reading of your comments fully bears that out. NEXT.
CM - Agreed. He also has an opinion on obeying scripture and "steadying the ark". Is your position that you intend to agree with him?
1 Cor.10:29 and D&C 134:4 denounce using our religious opinions as justification to infringe upon the rights and liberties of others.
People CAN be for civil marriage equality while still condemning homosexual behavior. I'm one.
we're trully interested. What did He say, and when did He tell you this?
Or are you just listening to some old guy in a robe telling you this?
Have you really spoken to God, and He told you gays are evil? Or are you a product of an over-zealous religion that thinks they know what God wants (even though no one really knows)?
Cm - In other words, gay guys are just like straight guys. Both hit on potential sex partners and give them a pick-up line to trick them into sex.
I am 100 % against those who say we need to relax, take a chill pill or "hush up" as it relates to agenda's to re-define marriage.
By relaxing or being passive about this issue we compromise. Those of you who wish to relax, may find some of your rights taken away. I will not relax. Those of us who are for Traditional Marriage need to be as vocal as those who are against Traditional Marriage. Be vocal and stand up.
"you are lured into one gay experience" What? Are you serious? No straight men would do it. I certainly wouldn't. Maybe you would, but no one else.
You have presented exactly what the problem is. Somehow, all you religious zealots got some strange notion about the gay lifestyle, and think Hollywood is the norm. Wake up - they live right next door to you and you don't even know it.
And your religious beliefs are "abnormal" compared to the rest of the world - but that's ok. You can do as you wish. Why can't you be the same way?
LDS - What's even funnier is that Ezek. 16:49 says that the sin of Sodom was hatred for strangers, and not being charitable to the downtrodden. This is exactly what many on this board are doing. They clearly hate gays and are not charitable toward them, giving them equal rights that hurts no one else. I wish there weren't so many Sodomites in the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign.
no, I am not an "anti-religious zealot". But I'm certainly against people pushing their religious beliefs onto others, especially when their beliefs are as "imaginative" as yours.
And anytime anyone says "God wants" or God believes" or anything that implies that you know what God wants, is a slap in God's face. DO NOT even pretend that you know what God wants. You can guess, as we all do, but unless you and God have sat for coffee and chatted, you have no clue what God wants.
But I can tell you what God probably wants. He wants His children to be happy, tolerant of others, and He wants us all to treat each other with dignity and respect. You must have missed that coffee break...
As a voter if I am going to support these bills I want something back in return ... Federal Constituatoinal Amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman.

the majority has voted out here in the west and they dont want your lifestyle of pleasure
pack it up and gather in conn or mass .. you can be all one happy family there
we dont want the AIDS, we dont want the HIV, we dont want to pay for your pleasure at our expense , we arent interested in extinct unions, we want unions that have a chance to continue the human race, not end it
there is nothing religious about this whatsoever ,, it is natural selection .. remember we all got here because of a mother and a father .. gay unions cant do that .. why would any logical / thinking society want to ok an extinct relationship ??
therefore i suggest that you all pack it up and make the move east to gather yourselves in a place where you are wanted (not sure why, but hey take it)
enjoy the trip
