Utah in washington how exciting hope they do something good rather then sit on there chair and play tick tack toe all day.
Just wondering... | 1:36 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
And who is his new Chief of Staff? Is he/she from Utah?
Madden | 1:36 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Good luck, the frosh year for Reps is always a bit brutal. I'm not sure how people can think that anyone would run for office seeking the glorious high life.

Represent us well!

just another utah chickenhawk..more dangerous because he will be in congress..afraid to serve in the military, but not afraid to send us that do serve off to die senselessly..according to his website he supports reduced government oversight of everything..just the sort of attitude which caused our financial woes..

Jason we are behind you - go to and work hard. If you are ever confused about an issue - just ask us, your constituents, and we will help you find the truth (unlike your predecessor who forgot who sent him to DC).

It is time to take our country back - let the conservative revolution begin!
Enjoy your two years, Jason | 3:12 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Don't take any leases longer than two years, and try to live down that "socialist" crack you made after the election.

Conservative revolution? I think you're all on the merry-go-round going the wrong direction. UNLESS you're for true conservatism, which would start by NOT interfering in people's private lives and relationships.
TJefferson | 3:14 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Jason..I voted for you in the primary due to your positions on all the issues...and wish you the best. Good luck and don't let washington change you as you represent the true and blue conservative republican wing..the restoration begins with one congressman at a time.
to just wondering... | 3:19 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
His name is Justin Harding. There is an article in today's news about it. He is from Utah, born and raised there, but has worked in DC the last 8+ years. Currently works for Rep. Bishop. Looks like a good pick.
Please | 3:47 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Please, Jason, do the right thing. Don't play partisan politics, don't paint with a broad brush, and please, give us term limits!
"Hurray" Will Help | 4:01 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Remember, Jason, when you get confused on an issue (as you probably will; keep a dictionary handy), just ask your constituents and listen to the polls.

It got you this far!

Boy, there are some nasty people on here. I have no doubt that none of them have ANY experience in Washington. I HAVE!!!

Go Jason. Go back there and kick some butt. Don't listen to these detractors who go on the attack, but who don't know anything whatsoever about what goes on back there.

Just listen to your constituents and your conscience....and get ready for the big Republican come back in 2010.

Good Luck!

What were you people thinking electing this guy to the 3rd district? Thank God he isnt my representative. I'm sure the Dems will keep Jason in his place. The Governor had the good sense to dump this guy. Oh wait...he resigned. That's right! How could I forget.
Anon | 4:51 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Great, he's more like a kid on Christmas morning talking about what freebies he's getting instead of focusing on the real issues effecting Utahns. Just like he was as the Guv's Chief-of-Staff - he's watching out for numero uno.

Wow, Shawn, still licking your wounds, eh? Time to move on ... to your next losing campaign. ;-)

Is it common for legislators to sleep in their offices each and every day they are in Washington? I like the cost saving attitude, but Jason, really, separate work from your private life.

Jason's comments are very childlike and excited. I am more worried now than before he was elected of how as our representative he has an effect on how the world and the rest of the nation will look at Utah. Please don't embarrass Utah Jason.

It is my genuine hope that Jason and the Utah Congressional Delegation will abandon Conservative Extremism, and embrace a moderate agenda that will truely serve the people of Utah and Country as a whole.
Political nut | 7:13 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Jason is dreaming about committee assignments. As a hard line conservative he'll be lucky to get an assignment as junior member of the Washington D.C. sewer commission.

The Dems are in charge and based on what Huntsman and his fellow governors are saying, the Republicans are leaving the conservatives behind.

Chaffetz is a brand new dinosaur.

Jake | 7:27 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
I am wondering when the media will look into why Jason Chaffetz was fired from NuSkin and the Governor's office. I am sure that everyone that has either worked for or with Chaffetz is hoping that he doesn't do what he has done at his last two jobs - especially with taxpayer money! Hopefully, Chaffetz won't embaress Utah like Rep. Tim Mahoney (R-FL) embarassed his District. However, if Chaffetz' record is any indication, I am worried he will.
Chris J. | 8:29 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
I wish Jason all the best!!

Know Him Well | 9:45 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
And I agree with Jake. If you have ever worked with Jason Chaffetz you know that he is only looking out for himself. Don't expect him to champion term limits. He will want to hang out in Washington as long as he can. It's all about Jason.
Two taste treats in one | 10:47 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
I only hope that his new Chief of Staff does the exact same quality of work that Jason Chaffetz did as Chief of Staff.
Good Luck! | 11:09 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
Rep-Elect Chaffetz worked smart and very hard to win the election. He is a true conservative and I wish him the best of luck!

Jason has enthusiasm and good ideas, and can think on his feet. He will need all of these back in DC. I wish him the best. He will never have to guess what I am thinking. I'll write.

Some of the same sour grapes here. They forget that Gov. Jon Huntsman jr. put his endorsement of Jason on his website, and that the founders of Nu-Skin defended Jason as someone that did a really good job as communications for the company. Jason has the support of former BYU football players. And he had, and still has my support.
Jane | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 18, 2008
I am amazed at how many negative comments there are about Jason's enthusiasm. I think it is refreshing that he is excited to get to work. As for Jason being a "brand new dinosaur" because he is conservative, I don't believe that to be true. I think the recent election evidences that people aren't happy with where the Republicn party has been headed. The party needs to return to its roots. The Republicans had the Legislative and Executive branches and expanded government and debt. That is not what Republicans used to be about. I am ready to see some change...even if it has to be one Congressman at a time.
frustrated citizen | 11:43 a.m. Nov. 18, 2008
Chaffetz is not about change; he is arrogant and represents what is wrong with the Republican party.
Stewart | 12:05 p.m. Nov. 18, 2008
There still seem to be more sore losers from the Cannon campaign and office along with the democrat losers commenting on Chaffetz than those republicans readers that lost in the election of Obama.

There seems to be those that pass on gossip from NU-Skin and the governor that there were problems, but no one seems to have any facts. (propaganda: tell a lie often enough and long enough until the weak minded begin to pass it on as factual) Gossip and innuendo are the weapons of those who have nothing factual to offer. Those that give them credence are the same types that buy the tabloids at the supermarket checkout.

I am thrilled to have Jason back in D.C.

Jason has enthusiasm and good ideas, and can think on his feet. He will need all of these back in DC. I wish him the best. He will never have to guess what I am thinking. I'll write.
Cynthia | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 20, 2008
I think Jason will do as good a job in congress as is possible for a freshman from the minority party.

I also notice a similar writing style between many of the anonymous comments. I guess the benefit to posting your opinions here vs. some other sites is that you don't have to use an actual account and can just post an repost as though you are different people. Crazy!

The whole 'firing of Jason' rummors have been posted and posted on this site for a year and never once has anything factual verified that except annonymous people claiming to 'know' him. Conversely, both the Gov. and the Nu-skin execs have said those things aren't true- in public, multiple times. But hey, don't let a little thing like facts get in the way of your desperate conspiracy theories.

It's put up or shut up time now. He's won the chance to prove himself. I'm confident he will but either way, it's on his shoulders now.

Hmmm... I see some accusations, but no facts or references. Sounds like typical political hearsay to me.

Having talked with Jason one-on-one and spent time with him before the election, I'd say he practices what he preaches. I expect good things from him. As for how he comes across in a news article... come on, people... it's a NEWS ARTICLE. You never get the whole or accurate picture that way.

And the call to stop being "too conservative" or "not conservative enough?" Jason campaigned on :
- Fiscal Discipline
- Limited Government
- Accountability
- Strong National Defense

Which one of those items is not a good idea, and why? Specifics, please. Give him a chance and see if he practices what he preaches. I wish him the best.
