Great article. I am Mike Compton's mother down here in Alabama. I taught Mike to play Chess when he was 4 years old. He has enjoyed board games since then.

The real story is the hours and hours of hard work put in by the board game designers.

Great article. My wife and I visited a few meetings. We were impressed as well. It was organised and everyone was friendly. I try to go to the meetings when I can get down there. It is nice to get critique that doesn't put you off of ever trying to continue your design. The members are doing exactly what the others are doing and are sensitive and know exactly how they would like their creation treated. Feedback is important, and the way you give it matters a lot. The members of the "Guild" know how to do this without trashing someone's creativity. Great jobs everyone!

Its great to see the news reporting on something fun rather than something dark and dreary! We need more articles like this, and more features on the outstanding, creative, and talented citizens of Utah.
Way to go Deseret News. Great job boardgamedesigners guild for existing!

The Queen's Garden is a joint effort between myself and Dave Haslam.

We have designed a few games together and have always found that the guild offers excellent feedback after each play test session.

I CAME ACROSS YOUR ARTICLE :DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO INVENT THE NEW "MONOLOPY." WELL, I DID THAT VERY THING IN 1994.In 1989 I played "MONOPOLY" at a friends place one night and later while I was returning home on the freeway I said to myself... ISN'T THAT SUCH AN ARCHAIC GAME. The thought never left me and during the next 5 years I stayed up many-a-nights and created a boardgame that rendered "MONOPOLY" obsolete. I named it "EASY COME EASY GO" (the quest for $millions$ game.) Many of the people who bought one of the 500 games I had made remarked: wow, this is better than Monopoly. Forget buying railroads and paying $75 in taxes...it's more fun to buy; businesses, real estate, mutual funds, oil wells, gold mines, stamp collections, coin collections, etc.,etc.,etc. I also included in the game chances of winning the lottery or trips to Vegas to win OR lose money.
It included financial shortcomings such as a spouse being fired resulting in annual income loss and not to mention earthquakes that could affect assets acquired, and high taxes...WOW! Yes folks, I created the game that rendered MONOPOLY OBSOLETE. Dan Joseph, Portersville, Pa.
