10 wins back-to-back-to-back | 1:52 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU just clinched their 14th double-digit win season, the 3rd time BYU has had back-to-back-to-back double-digit win seasons.

1979 11-1
1980 12-1
1981 11-2

1983 11-1
1984 13-0
1985 11-3

2006 11-2
2007 11-2
2008 10-1, with two games to go

Utah has only had 4 double-digit win seasons in their history; 2003-2004 was the only time Utah had back-to-back 10-win seasons.
Hey "byu Fans" | 1:54 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
That took some really impressive intellectual depth to come up with that statement. That's like saying all Republicans want to destroy the environment, or no Democrat has steady employment. I can feel your IQ breaking into the double digits as we speak.

Having attended BYU, my experience was most BYU students didn't care about the U of U. I hope that this insight doesn't conflict too much with Utes true-believer dogma. Seriously, though, my only concern is why Michigan is doing so poorly this year--almost Apocalyptically--maybe it was because the Utes demoralized them so completely and beat them by 2 points... pretty impressive.

Byu trust me when i say utah is good i mean really good!! I was at the tcu utah game and was amazed by there team speed especially on the defensive side of the ball number 4 number 10 number 11 and number 1 looked like nfl players!! I was at the byu tcu game and watched us beat you guys down we were more athletic and faster at every posistion on the football field, number 9 on byu was the only player on the team that looked like he belonged out there! Utah is similar to tcu there team defense is just so fast its fun to watch!! Byu if this wasnt a rivarly game between you two teams utah would would run you off the field just like we ran you off the field 32 to 7.. byu great coaches great program just not enough athletes! Utah 31 byu 23 i wouldnt say it would be that close but it is a rivarly game so utah by 8!

BYU fired up. What an oxymoron.
They'll look at the Utah score and beg for something to eat.
Re: TRUE UTE FANS | 7:21 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
No, only Utah fans THINK everybody else hates BYU, because Utah fans THINK they ARE everybody else.

The difference between BYU and Utah is nobody outside of the state knows who Utah is. One season of national prominence in this generation is not enough for anybody to know you, let alone to hate you.

Your team is good, and may well thump us. I like our chances and look forward to seeing the game played on the field.
Cougar Fan | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Thanks TCU(utah)Fan. As if we would actually believe that any TCU fan left that game thinking that Utah was the better team. Utah only won because TCU's freshman kicker missed two field goals. TCU controlled that game and Utah was lucky to pull out a win.
Prediction | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Take into consideration:

1. Utah 11-0, BYU 10-1
2. Utah 13 TCU 10, TCU 32 BYU 7
3. Game to be played at Rice-Eccles Stadium
4. Both offenses doing well right now: Utah 63 SDSU 14, BYU 38 AFA 24
5. Utah defense ranked in the top 10 in the U.S.,
BYU defense struggling, gave up 35 points to UNLV, 42 points to CSU, 27 points to Washington

Prediction: Utah 31 BYU 14

Yewt defence cannot stop the BYU pass game. Their so called top Defence is only good against the run. Number 50 pass defence beating number 8 pass offence? I don't think so.

I love the sound of 11 and 1! Stinkin Utes - you are GOING DOWN. And it will be so embarrassing to lose at HOME to BYU again (maybe you should try wearing pink for the game)!

As a devout Cougar I still haven't forgiven Todd for the 3 consecutive drives that ended with his lost fumbles inside Frank Kush's Arizona State 5 yard Line. We had that game in the bag and would have sent them to the PAC with a sore butt.

As for The Mountain Broadcasters....Please keep Todd off the Field.

Thanks for the sour memories Todd!!!

Re: To Nostracougus,

I love nothing better than the Ute fan who makes a declarative statement without realizing it only makes him look worse. Please, Ute fans, look beyond your initial statement and study the ramifications before hitting "add your comment."

For example, you belittle Jonny Harline because he doesn't have an "NFL job." Don't you realize that saying that makes your team look even worse? (See, you dropped 9 guys into pass coverage and still couldn't cover someone who couldn't even make it into the NFL. See what I mean? Geez, how open would a guy be who does have NFL talent?)

And for you to say that BYU is dropping from the Poinsettia to the Armed Forces Bowl just shows your ignorance of the bowl system.

Even if BYU loses to Utah -- and I do not foresee that -- they will drop no lower than the Poinsettia. The MWC bowl tie-ins get to pick who they want. Hence, technically, even if Utah wins and TCU takes second, the Vegas Bowl could still opt to take BYU. (TCU fans do not travel well.) No way the Poinsettia passes on the chance to take BYU.
DennyG | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Here is the deal BYU fans.
Ute fans don't carry a 365 day a year chip on their shoulder trying to defend and support the "Church" school and what it supposedly stands for.
Utah fans live, and have always lived, week to week.
If the "Y" loses next week, BYU fans will carry the guilt for months.
Utah fans will let it go in about a week.
Most people in the country don't lose near as much sleep and suffer as much anxiety as BYU fans.
Most of you are mentally ill on the subject.
THATS why Ute fans pick on you so. Because you give them such a rise and it's fun.
Utes 35, BYU 11

Trivia Question Part II

When was the last time Utah had an 11-1 record?

I foresee the correct answer being Saturday.

When was the last time Utah took an 11-1 record into the Poinsettia Bowl?

(Hint: The answer starts with the letter N.)

No more talk.... | 10:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Sat, Nov 22 is coming fast. Good luck to both teams. The best team will be the one who wins. Let's play some football!
Bob2 | 10:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Okay, now lets get this straight. BYU and Utah fans; if you chant "over-rated" at next weeks game, you are an idiot no matter which team you are pulling for. Both of these teams and coaches deserve every ounce of praise they've received and chanting overrated is akin to saying--"we aren't really that good--we're just beating a bad team." Not what either of these teams deserve.
re: Trivia Questions | 10:20 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Answer to #1: 2001.

Answer to #2: never, OK you win on that point, but consider: BYU also accumulated 11-0 records in 1979 and 1984, so when was the last time Utah had an 11-0 record five years after having an 11-0 record?

Here's hoping for a great game next weekend.
byufanagain? | 10:24 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
If Unga is injured, why play him, surely he cannot run with the power and athourity, Coach M. you said, if a player does not practice, he does not play, your other backs are great, use them.
Sad Day for the TRUE BLUE | 10:54 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
The Utah County heard will be full of emotion as they trek to the stadium Saturday morning. TALK,TALK, TALK, til you can talk no more, however there will nothing to talk about on the way home. Utah will do the talking on the field and I don't care who BYU or Utah has played. Come Saturday the records are 0-0. When Utah has 1 more point on the board, that's all that matters. Utah 12-0 , BYU 10-2

Game Score:

Utah 21-BYU 10
Finally the Game is here | 10:57 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
The great thing about all this speculation is that it is meaningless. They will actually play the game Saturday.

FWIW: I will speculate that the Utah defense will give up 2 or 3 big plays in the game, but will otherwise thoroughly frustrate BYU. I just don't see BYU's defense consistently stopping Utah's spread with the speed they have.

Thus my prediction is:
UTAH 34
BYU 17

It will be nice seeing Utah in the sugar bowl against Alabama, that should be a great game.

BYU however, will get pounded by Boise St in the Poinsettia bowl.
rdha | 10:59 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Hooray for BYU on their win against Air Force. I couldn't watch because I didn't have the Sports channel but that is sweet that BYU won again. Next weeks game will be interesting because it will be against U of U. I really have my facts straightened out now. It'll be yet another hard fought battle of a game. GO COUGARS and the very best to them against a tough and talented Ute Football team.
statistically thinking SURE | 11:08 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU offense is solid, however they can be stopped. If the DBs for AF could catch the 3 or 4 balls that were right in their hands and Austin Collie would get called for offensive PI, AF could have won. BYU, you are week and have only played 1 decent team (TCU) and lost. I CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY

Utah will put at least thirty on BYU's weak D. Just a fact. BYU offense will have to score 40+ on Utah's D to win. My prediction:

Utah: 41
BYU: 24
Zoobs | 4:33 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Good offense that falls apart with any pressure and the most open, porous defense I've seen save SDSU, not too worried here.
Mr. BYU | 4:35 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
So....the Cougars were too slow to match up with Air Force? I think not! The game really wasn't even as close as the 38-24 score indicated. BYU should have scored just before half but laid an egg with the interception.

With better talent at QB for Air Force, BYU beat an Air Force team more handily than Utah did. Hmmmmm.

Go Cougars!
Collie | 4:56 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU has been saving some offensive formations for this game. I think you're going to see Austin Collie get 100+ yards receiving and 50+ yards rushing, and maybe even a touchdown pass.

BYU 28
Utah 24

Don't tell BYU fans about luckily breaks... If this and if that, Blah, Blah, Blah...IF TCU had a kicker, than the Utes would not be talking about BCS right now! IF Oregon state did not play a weak (not WEEK) prevent defense on the last drive of the game, Than BCS talk would have been over several weeks ago for the Utes.

" The showdown" will be close, but if it comes down to the wire, BYU should in. I like that Utah is in the habit of thinking that they can play from behind. let's see, TCU missed two easy field goals, and if that was us, those would be TDs, and our D needs to step up. All I can say is, Ute defensive backs, have fun getting burned by Collie, and your ankles and shoulders broken by Fui and Harvey
BYU HATER | 7:59 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I would rather see the Utes go 1-11 and have their only win be against byu than go 11-1 and have their only loss be to byu. Byu fans are the most annoying people on the face of this planet. "The Quest"----is to lose to the Utes! Cheers!!!!!
Re: Nostracougus | 8:17 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I love nothing better than the kewg fan who makes a declarative statement without realizing it only makes him look worse. Please, kewg fans, look beyond your initial statement and study the ramifications before hitting "add your comment."

It looks like ESPN must not know the bowl selection process either as one of two writers project your kewgs in the Armed Forces Bowl! Perhaps it's you that is ignorant?

We all saw what the kewgs did against an athletic TCU team.... quick and athletic destroyed big and slow. Guess what? The Utes are quick and athletic! Why don't you jump off the blogs for a few minutes and check out some stats. Here's something for your high intellect (joke) to consider:

Your kewgs allowed 321 yards on 51 carries yesterday at AFA. The Utes allowed 53 yards on 42 carries earlier this year on the same field. Good defense (or as kewg fans spell it: defence) usually beats good offense.

See you in SLC next Saturday! Oh wait, you will be watching it on your little tv with Johnny!

Go Utes!! 2nd BCS bowl game in 4 years!!
Hey Utes | 9:44 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Stop comparing Utah to TCU. GO look at the stats, Utes defensive stats look more like BYU's than TCU's. Utah focuses their whole argument based on the BYU/TCU game last month. BYU had 4 turnovers, a short week, and a road game against a very emotional team that had been looking forward to that game since January. Coach Patterson said they had Y's on their practice dummies since last year. We have a young secondary with lots of injuries so yes we haven't played well against the pass in some games, but we have in others. As bad as BYU's defense played against TCU, UNLV, and CSU they played really well against UNM, UCLA, Wyoming(giving up a total of 3 points in those 3 games.) BYU also had 2 turnovers inside the TCU 11 yard line and a missed field goal.
Re: Cougar fan | 9:49 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Trust me man i was at the utah tcu game! and i still feel we TCU are the best team in the mountain west but i hope you go up there this week to the utah byu game and see all the athletes utah puts out on the field they are extremely fast on defense i counted probably 5 kids on there defense that will play on sundays.. plus byu's D is a joke there CBs have to play 12 yards off the reciever cuz they aren't fast enough and jan jorgensen is so overrated its digusting! i hate utah but im just being honest! Utah has more athletes and TEAM SPEED on the field then byu has!! bottom line byu doesnt have even close the athletes utah does!! Utah will win trust me man!
RE: BYU HATER | 9:58 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
WELL SPOKEN like a typical Ute fan. There is living proof that there really aren't true Ute fans, just BYU haters. No, I'm smarter than that there really are true Ute fans who really do support their team, I know some of them, but there sure are a lot of "ute" fans that just hate BYU. Wow, that's a sad way to live your entire life.

P.S. I'm not to fond of some of our "fans" either. We have a lot more of an argument than just "4th and 18" even though that's what a lot of them say. Contrary to widespread belief there are non annoying, intelligent BYU fans who make good points.
BCS | 10:12 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
wittingham recruits speed byu recruits size bottom line if you know football SPEED KILLS!!! You saw byu just absolutly get punched in the mouth by tcu's TEAM SPEED and ATHLETIC ABILITY Utah is built the same way TCU is on defense! Hall will be on his butt all game.. Utah 30 Byu 20 and it will only be that close because its a rivarly game!
I agree with Re: cougar fan | 12:06 a.m. Nov. 17, 2008
I agree Byu just plain and simple doesn't have the athletes utah does and especially the team speed utah does.. Bronco mendenhall or whatever his name is would admit it himself hence thats why they play there self proclaimed "bend dont break" defense is cuz LACK OF ATHLETES! P.S. Austin Collie is Byu's best reciever and player but that true Freshman Oneal Chambers mark my words will be a better NFL player then Austin Collie that is if Bronco even puts Chambers in and max hall doesn't just lock in on the same two players of pitta and collie and an occasional pass to george! Chambers is your best athlete put him out there!!!!!!

To Re: Nostracougus 8:17

You can regurgitate my statements like a trained chimpanzee -- but it obviously doesn't mean you understand them.

Congrats on basing your whole argument on what "one of two writers" from ESPN says. I guess you got me there, ESPN has certainly never been wrong on anything before. ESPN says it, it must be true. At this point, I'm not sure who is more clueless -- you or the ESPN writer (who probably writes 200 posts a day, half of them about teams he understands far less than the locals).

Dude, with one game to go, there is no viable scenario where BYU goes to the Armed Forces Bowl. I don't care what ESPN says.

Thanks for posting the stats from the Air Force game, though, I'm finding a hard time understanding what relevance they have. I notice you failed to post the passing yardage comparison. Why is that? Because Air Force had a huge day passing on the Utes cause they opted to overload the box.

The only relevant stat is scoring differential. Utah by 7, BYU by 14.

Scoreboard -- just like this Saturday.

When that happens, Utes are going to the Poinsettia.
Anonymous | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 18, 2008
Ute fans need to get over themselves. They aren't deserving of their number 7 ranking the same way BYU wasn't deserving of their top 10 ranking.
