So I guess Muslim fundamentalists aren't Muslim either?

I know that you have trouble accepting this reality, but "Mormon" is the accepted generic term for those religions that use the Book of Mormon and may include the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in that mix, even if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints don't like it.

This is particularly odd given that all gays seem to be suffering blame for violent acts when only a few are participating in such violence and all is occurring because they simply want the right of protections offered to their significant other that legal spouses are afforded and no, domestic partnership doesn't offer those same protection especially when such is not universally accepted. In fact, most states do not have a registry. More odd, is that a transsexuals may legally marry, but there was no outcry.

I live in British Columbia, Canada, and couldn't receive this show. However, the subject matter deeply distresses me. Why any woman would want to lower herself to the status of a concubine in a harem totally bewilders me. Do such women believe women are nothing more than sexual collectibles? Or do they have no faith in their ability to run a household by themselves? Polygamy comes to us from the dark ages when women were chattels and men traded them in the same way they would trade cattle. The year is now 2008 AD, not 2008 BC, and it's high time this misogynistic ancient practise was kicked into the garbage can of history, where it belongs.

Sad. Careless. Irresponsible.

What an insult to their viewers!

Mormons no longer practice polygamy, but it's still a basic tenet of Mormonism. Mormons believe in polygamy in heaven. I personally know men who have more than one wife sealed to them in the temple who plan on having both of them in the hereafter. So, just because Mormons aren't practicing polygamy now does NOT mean it's not a basic tenet of Mormonism still.

I guess we can add "mormon polygamists" to the long list of drivil on the tube. Isn't it kinda sorta journalism entertaining?
The next thing ya know someone will do a story about Obama being a non-citizen Muslim.

What we need here is a statement from the LDS leadership about the non-issue of polygamy or perhaps a statement by the Pope that the
inquisition is over.
Elvis might be able to solve all the problems of all misunderstood churches if he would only give us some direction about just what we should do.

interesting, that i as a "gentile" have more knowledge of what mormons believe in respect to polygamy than this soi disant "reporter", but then while i'm not a potential convert i have enjoyed discussing religion with mormon missionaries visiting my house, finding them intelligent and courteous as guests, and respectful of my beliefs.

Thanks David for that wonderful insight. Under your rational, all religions that believe in the Bible, as hard as it is to swallow, should be viewed as Catholic.
Let me tell you the basic problem that I have with the gay marriage deal. In Massachusetts, gay marriage is legal. Once a practice is deemed legal by the state legislature, it becomes law. Once it becomes law, it becomes part of the teaching curriculum. When a little boy came home from school one day and questioned his parents about the fact that the school said that it was OK for a man and a man to marry, his parents were obviously concerned, as I'm sure you could imagine. The father went to the school and stated to the superintendant that if that what was being taught in school, he was not going to let his child participate. The school official claimed that it was against the law to do that. Now, you tell me how fair that is! I don't care how you live your life or who you support, but I should be allowed the same privilege, without being harrassed.

I had a hard time watching what litle I did, the "reporter" was so ill informed about the beliefs of the actual Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints(LDS).Lumping the true church(LDS) in with people(FLDS)who if they were Mormons are now excommunicated if they choose to practise polygamy. What I found sad was the explaination the one "wife" gave to justify polygamy, that you loose that "in love" feeling and so this was better than divorce. This FLDS sect has lost one of the greatest blessings in the Mormon Church(LDS) that of eternal marriage. Love can and does last forever, so does committment, companionship, friendship, trust and fidelity. I can certainly love my children forever, why not my husband. It is a choice and though we may go through difficult times we go through them together.It makes us stronger...our marriage, our family, our committment and us as individuals. I was blessed to fall in love with the man who became my very best friend, to marry him in the temple for eternity, to love him more and more every day even 25+years later. When we go through tough times I have my best friend committed to me for eternity.

I was VERY angry at her choice of words and how she uses the word polygamist mormons. Before having aired such a show, TLC should have reviewed and researched the information being projected from the series! Once again, media has tagged the LDS with the same values of the FLDS! These people need to get facts straight! I am outraged!!!!!!!

why are all you mormons so afraid to be linked to this? The fact is - you all started polygamy here. You decided not to continue it and some mormons took exception and continued it anyway.

your original leaders practiced polygamy, and you would all still do it except it's illegal!!

don't act like you are better than them. you are all still mormons - it's just that they still practice the old ways while you are simply too afraid to do it.

and stop saying "excommunicated". There's no such thing. Either you believe in a religion or you don't - no old man in a fancy robe can tell you that you no longer belong - they're just on a power trip. Can't believe you even think they have some magical power to "excommunicate" anyone....

#1 Most of these people are not as stupid or ill informed to not know the Current Church does not practice living polygamy.

They do this for shock value and as a jab they KNOW
to be a lie at face value. At least related to the current 'Church'.
'They' don't need education, they KNOW the facts.

#2 As to 'Research' as little research will show that Moroni is not affiliated with any group.

'The Centennial Park' left/escaped/apostatized from the FLDS church a long time ago due to theological differences. Many of the same things that got the FLDS into trouble just days after the filming ended.

There are NO FLDS members in the documentary.

hey, i liked the show. though some information was mis represented, it had a good message, it cleared up many misconceptions people have about Polygamy.

actually, no one even cares about polygamy between consenting adults. It's no different than gay couples - just another alternative lifestyle that hurts no one.

I'm suprised all the polygamists didn't vote NO on prop 8. All alternative practitioners should stick up for the other alternative lifestyles....
