Big Bro vs. Little Bro | 10:03 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I love all the talk about big/little bro's.

Just to clear up a few things:
Big Bros are:
1) the older institution (Utah)
2) the one with better overall head to head record(Utah)

For the record, I was at both games this week, I did not see in RES a montage video of anti-BYU stuff like the anti-utah one today at LES. Really the whole program is that focused on Utah that they have to play a video while they are playing another team??? I'll give you that it was SDSU, but talk about little brother syndrome.
Odds of BYU Victory Against UTah | 10:35 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
50-50. Just like the last ten years (except '04) which is why I love this rivalry. Anyone who is confident that Utah will very easily beat BYU on their way to another Fiesta Bowl either has a very short memory or a very low IQ. The argument goes that Utah will beat BYU because they beat a TCU team who handily beat BYU. Just like last year when BYU lost to UCLA and Utah destroyed UCLA. Someone remind me how that turned out again...4th and 18 anyone?

BYU's offense is very good and its defense is below average on its best day. Utah's defense is very good on its offense is completely inconsistent. Contrary to all the overrated talk this year, both teams are legitimate top 20 programs and either team could win on Nov.22. As a cougar fan I have to give a slight edge to Utah because they're playing at home and they've beaten better teams so far this year, but I still say it will be undecided well into the fourth quarter.

Kitty fans, worry about next week. AFA will be totally focused on byu and if your boys don't return the favor you'll be in 4th place next Saturday and it will painfully clear, even to you pinheaded byu fans that you can't beat anyone with a winning record. Your big brother has beaten a few of them this year and adding the measley name of byu to the list will be no big deal.

I repeat, worry about AFA.
Nov 22? | 10:47 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
We should be focused on next week. Drop that one and we can hand Utah the MWC title.

the hooting hoots | 11:03 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Sure are a bunch of ignorant hoot fans shooting off their mouths on this article about BYU. As usual they are totally obsessed with all things BYU so they just can't help themselves being the little bro that they are.

That will make it so much sweeter when we make all the little hoot fans and their mascot, Hootie, cry on Nov 22. It was so much fun watching Kryle Whittinham kry after losing to us in '06 and '07 that I can hardly wait for it to happen again this year.
Big Brother predictions for TDS | 11:06 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
UTAH football = Big Brother!

TDS football = one hit wonder from over 20 years ago. During an era when football writers chose the National Chump--- in 1984 it was TDS.

FACT: Overall record head to head 53-33-4.
Advantage Utah.

FACT: Prior to Lavell 1973, Utah OWNED TDS 39-5-4 head to head.
Advantage Utah.

During 20 year period with Lavell (1973 - 1992).
Admittingly TDS has advantage 19-2.

FACT: Since 1992 including Lavell's waining years UTAH has advantage once again, including stretches of 3 and 4 years consecutive wins over TDS.
Adavantage UTAH!

BCS tradition! Utah 1 going on 2. TDS 0, nada, zippo, zilch.

Advantage Utah!!!!

Big Brother owns TDS. Admit it zoobies! You are jealous of Utah football. We own U!

TDS has been relevant just once over the last 20 years, 1996 was your last decent season ending ranking.

You are slowwwww. Utah is fast. You throw north/south routes so predictably we will laugh after we clobber Maxie for numerous coverage sacks!

It won't be pretty TDS. This will not be a close game. Mark my words we will own TDS!!!

Big Brother has spoken, now go to bed and dream of 1984 again. LOL
Agree | 11:10 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
The Cougs need to focus on AFA right now. They put it CSU and are on a roll right now. They are a much improved team since losing to the Yewts by a touchdown. After we take care of the cadets, then we'll put some thought into how to disrupt, BJ, which shouldn't be too difficult.
BYU please... | 11:20 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
pary we have a good game against Air Force Academy.

If we lose against Air Force we might not have any momentum for Utah.

The Utah defense scares me. They controlled TCU whereas BYU couldn't mount any effective drives.

Utah has faster people and we seem to be running with concrete shoes.

Let's hope we can get to a good bowl game and win the championship again like in 1984. Quest for perfection restored after repentence.

I dream about a big win over Utah. So we can show them who really is the big brother.

I want a BCS bid so badly to shut Utah up. They make me jealous! :)
Thanks for the laughs........ | 11:22 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I absolutely love these comment boards - they are so much more fun than the articles. They may be even more entertaining than some of the games the U and the Y have played this year. Keep up all of the good work kids!

Go Cougs, Go Utes, Go post some more useless drivel that makes the conference/state look even more bush league.
Go Utes | 11:42 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Both Utah troll comments pretending to be BYU fans, and the reply comments by Utah fans (could even be the trolls replying to their own lame comments).

I also appreciate the creative spelling.

Bottom line, most BYU fans are content waiting until 11/22 to see what hapens on the field.

I love your facination with BYU football.

I loved to watch my Big Brother play football too, but being a man now, it's just all good.
Worried | 11:44 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
We are not running the ball well at all right now. The right tackle Oswald is a liability on the line. He seems to be giving up sacks and tackles for loss every game now. I expected way more from this senior laden O-line. They are not doing the job I thought they would do.

Glad we won, defense played a bit better today, but I am very concerned about AFA and the UofU.
Re: BYU please | 11:44 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
You're nothing but a Yewt troll, trying to make the Coug fans look bad...nice try. My first clue was that you didn't know how to spell 'pray' (pary) that isn't something a Coug would do.

Also, a true fan would never...ever...be jealous of a YEWT!!!
Yewts | 12:48 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Live it up Yewt fans. Your only hope is on Nov 22nd. Your b-ball team is average. Your football team is one and done (09 looking bleak). Your 15-minutes is almost up.
Utah Rocks!!!! | 1:04 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
We are the best team in the state period! We are even better than the 2004 team and we show it every week. To bad coogs, we are the one going to the National Championchip because defense always wins championchips- Go Muss!!!!!!!!
Big brother? | 1:33 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
BCS bowl game win? Wow. Was it a national championship? Nope, and it never will be. Utes have ALWAYS been in BYU's shadow, and ever will be because of the BCS. I hate the BCS, but as Ute fans, you should loathe it because you'll never achieve what BYU has already done.... jealous?

Sleep sweet and dream of a national championship... it's the closest you'll ever get....

BTW... Harline is STILL open.
Seriously people | 1:48 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
All these little brother comments crack me up. We are fans. We don't play the game. It's like your self esteem is tied up in whether Utah beats BYU. Seriously, I am a huge BYU fan, but but losing to Utah is not going to ruin my life. I will enjoy November 22nd for what it will be. A great game against two really good teams. The fact that Utah holds the all-time advantage is not relevant. The fact that in my lifetime BYU has a significant advantage is irrelevent. The fact that BYU has won two years in a row does not matter. The only thing that matters is 2008. BYU has a better offense and Utah has a better defense. Time will tell which one wins out. At the end of the day is BYU wins all the teenagers (or those with a similiar mentality) who are making the "little brother", or Utah will destroy BYU comments will be nowhere to be found. The same goes for irrational BYU fans who are promising victory. Lets deal in facts, not emotion, and immature comments that somehow make it seem as if you personally own the university.
BCS | 2:11 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
BYU is the reason why the BCS exists. Without BYU's constant succeses their would be no BCS for Utah to bust. Also, to the poster on the third page who thinks this is are best season since 1984, not true. We were 14-1 in 1996, won the Cotton Bowl and finished #5. If we finish 12-1 with a top 10 finish it will be one of 4 times in the past 30 years, 10 top 15 finishes in that time, and 18 top 25 finishes (would be more, but they used to only rank the top 20). The bottom line is that Utah has one advantage historically over BYU, and that is the overall record. Other than that, BYU has a larger fan base, bigger facility, more seasons ranked, more top 10 finishes, several heisman candidates and one winner, and oh yeah... a national title. While BYU may historically be the "little brother", this "little brother" passed the "big brother" in 1972 and has beating up on him ever since. Oh, and since BYU football became relevant in 1972 when Lavell arrived, BYU is 25-11 against Utah including a stretch of 19 out of 21.
No more wins for BYU this year.. | 5:37 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Air Force and Utah both beat BYU. Watch and see!

Go Air Force! Go Utah!
gary | 7:06 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Hall has tunnel vision......cannot or refuses to read the entire field so Utah will come prepared to stop his inability to get the ball to the "open" receiver. Sorry BYU fans....Utah fans will have no excuse if they lose because Hall cannot find other receivers other than those on the right side of the field. Submitted by a neither a BYU or Utah fan,
simply a football fan/observer during the past 40 years.

W, W, W, W, W, W, W, W, W, W,

That's what I saw this morning on our stat sheet. SOME of you tell me not to post here because its a Y article. Well I read plenty of Y smack on Utah articles. Harline is still open you say? Is Beck still crying?

We'll see on the 22nd.
crowtonlover | 7:24 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
You zoobies seem to forget that even if we lost to TCU, we would've had 13 on the board. BYU only had 7 on the board.

Assuming TCU would've made those field goals, they wouldve won that game. But this concludes that the UTE defense will prevail.
Next Week | 7:27 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
The BYU DB's arent out matched against air force. They can actually keep up man to man against air force, and let the front 7, which is their stregnth, do what they are supposed to do. Nobody can stop this offense when it's moving. Not even you Utes, so that game will be a shootout. Trust me ute fans, coach Kyle and Gary Anderson arent overlooking the cougs. Being at home you may come out with a win, but it wont be a blow out. Can you even score more than 13 points in a game anymore? I hope so or this one could be over early. Maybe you should beat San Diego St. by a score of 13-10 so at least you are consistant.

Predictions:
BYU Beats air force convincingly. Utah beats SDSU but strugles the first half. Utah wins in a shutout against BYU 27-24, thanks to king Louie.
Re: BCS at 2:11 | 7:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
I'll give you a great stretch during the 70s, and 80s. You had a great run. But for the last 15-16 years its been a pretty even run. Its a great rivalry. The younger brothers don't like to admit that the older brothers woke up from their sleep and started fighting back.

Go utes! Oh game at a time.
stay off the boards | 7:52 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Stay off the boards, Ute trolls. Just be grateful for your handful of lucky wins this year. OSU, TCU, Michigan, and New Mexico all could have and should have beaten the Utes. The Utes have played good enough and received a generous share of luck to win all their games, but certainly I see no reason for smugness. I'm sure the past two years have been rough on you and now it's natural that all your pent up feelings of inadequacy are pouring forth. I think most BYU fans realize that things aren't perfect in Provo, but 9-1 surpasses the Utes record the past few years.
Sagarin Rating | 7:53 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008

8. Utah
10. Bodiddley State (BSU)
11. TCU
27. BYU
35. Air Force
Eugene | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Unbelievable postings!!! Some Uters must love to read BYU articles just to get their unsportsmanlike danders up!

No question Air Force and Utah will be tough games for the Cougs to pull off on the road, but I expect both to be good games.

Utes did win with more points against TCU at home, but the Frogs outplayed you and Utes lucked out with missed TCU field goals that Sakoda could have made in his sleep!

It comes down to class . . . most Ute posters above have shown little where the Utah team has been more than respectful. Concentrate your evil diatribe on SDSU this week since it would be embarrassing for Uters to be a 1-loss team when they meet up with the Cougs the following week!

It is respectable to lose to a fine team like TCU, but it would be a total failure for you to lose to the Aztecs. Hint . . . Coug lovers want Utah to beat SDSU so that we can set up the David vs. Goliath scenario!

Get ready to sling, Cougs!
Max | 9:03 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Coug's... we'll see your 9-2 team get clobbered by our 11-0 team in Salt Lake on the 22nd. btw... you are going to lose to Air Force and you are going to lose to Utah because your defense will not be able to stop either of them and your predictable offense is going get the same treatment as it got against TCU.

Thanks for staying in the top 25 as long as you have, though, as it helps the conference respectability. It will be great to have 3 Top 25 teams in the MWC this year! Utah, TCU, and Air Force.

Lt. Dan | 9:10 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
You BYU people seem to forget that you will be playing Air Force next week. Air Force will win that because 1) we have a better defense than anyone you have played except TCU 2) your defense has no shot at stopping our offense and 3) you don't get to play us in the safety of Lavell stadium and you have not been competitive on the road (Washington, TCU).

We are looking forward to a great contest and jumping ahead of you in the national polls next week.

Holy Cow!!! How can anyone be writing this stuff! Did you see that game yesterday? BYU is a national championship team - - there can be no debate on that. We destroyed San Diego!

We probably won't get the national championship but we should. TCU just got lucky against us. I know we are going to win the rest of our games.

Go Cougar brothers!!!
BlueBoy | 9:21 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
It's hard to believe that Nixon's days at BYU are almost over. He's been one of my favorite players since watching him as a Freshman. Love his tenacity.

Bronco's been saying he just wants a plug-and-play roster, where when one great player leaves, another is ready to take his place. Kind of what great BCS teams over the years have done. Be nice if that occurs at BYU. It's what's need to be a perennial factor in the college football national scene.

Now that BYU did what it's supposed to against the MWC cellar-dweller, it needs to take care of business against Air Force next week. It's a loss waiting to happen. It should be quite a battle.

If BYU can beat Air Force, I believe they'll have a chance to get that automatic BCS bowl birth against Utah. Whichever team wins that game is in. Why? Because I believe Boise State will stumble either AT Nevada (one of the top rushing teams in the NCAA), or at home against Fresno State (because they'll be drained from the Nevada game and Fresno will be ticked off about their disappointing season).

Go Cougars!
LaVarr | 9:43 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
It was a great victory yesterday. No one can take that away from us. No one!!

This is a team that could have easily won the national championship. However, for a reason we do not yet understand, it was not meant to be. True Cougar fans will understand that comment.

Perhaps this is simply a reflection of the transition our nation is going through. Sometimes, the proud need to be brought down a bit to realize their full potential in life.

I have a very strong feeling that we will beat Utah. Those feelings do not come without a reason.

Go BYU!!!

You BYU fans are doing a lot talking, again. You didn't learn the first time and you may well end up repeating your miss-deeds.

Your "Quest For Perfection" blew up in your faces and yet once again you are flapping the ol' jowls. Why don't you wait until after the final game to do your talking. Maybe THEN you will have something to talk about.

Cats | 10:00 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
I can't believe all these childish people with all these snarky and silly comments. But, that's okay. I said a lot of stupid things when I was in grade school, too. I'm sure glad my personal self-esteen doesn't depend on a whether a football teams wins or loses.

I was at the BYU game yesterday. It was a lot of fun. We'll see what happens on November 22. I don't think the Cougs played their best, but we still had a good win.

Utah has had a great season, but it is clear that the Ute offense is REALLY struggling. The last two games Sakoda has scored more than half their points. That indicates a REALLY struggling offense. BYU hasn't always played to it's abilities this year, so we'll see what happens. The next two road games will be really tough.

Congratulations to both the Utes and the Cougs this week. It will be a tough and hard-fought game on the 22nd.

Go Cougars!!!
Cougar Fan in Wash | 10:09 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
2 and 0 against the yewts. All we need is 3 and 0 and it will be an excellent year. If we go 3 and 0 the yewts will be more discouraged than "Harline is still open" and "4th and 18" because this will be the year we prevent the yewts from getting a BCS bowl. I wish I could be there to have yewt fans throw rocks at my car when I leave the game. NOT!

don't worry zoobies, air force is the real deal. You will lose at air force and then get killed at utah. Enjoy the New mexico bowl. Utah fiesta, Tcu vegas, Air force poinsettia and zoobs/ new mexico. Thank the lord that you printed off so many quest for perfection shirts they will look good down in New Mexico Go Utes.

I don't get these Utah fans. First, they think we care that they come by and leave their droppings on our message boards. Second, they reaffirm their obvious mental problems and the poor state of the mental health profession in and around Salt Lake City.

Thirdly, Utah has barely beaten some barely Division One teams. It happens.

Yes, I worry about the Air Force game. We may lose there, and we may lose at Utah, But we won't lose both, and we might win both.

And - unlike Utah fans - I'll support my Cougars whether they finish the regular season 11-1 or 9-3.

It seems the "fair weather" in Salt Lake has transformed its population.
Cats | 11:08 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
I was at the game yesterday. THERE WAS NO ANTI-UTAH VIDEO. It was just a video series that has been done at each game every year. It was a joke. Anybody could see that.

I also saw some Utes there waving a big Utah flag. Talk about immature. I guess some people are so desperate for attention they'll do anything.

I went to both schools. My loyalties are to BYU, but let's all just grow up and act like civilized human beings. Both teams are great and both schools are great. Let's be friends and stop this silliness.

I love how BYU fans keep harping about Utah's lucky wins, lets look at BYU. You were lucky to beat Washington, UNLV, Colorado State, and I have a feeling you are going to loose or luck out against Air Force. The difference between Utah and BYU's close wins is that Utah is still undefeated, and BYU is not....jealous?????????? Get over yourselves and I swear if I see one quest for perfection shirt on Nov 22 I am going to flip my lid, YOU LOST, GET OVER IT.

bowl game | 11:35 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
If BYU beats Air Force they will go to the Vegas bowl regardless of whether or not they beat Utah. They may get the invite even if they lose their last two. The Ute fans who are plug us into the ft. worth or whatever bowl fail to realize that the Vegas bowl gets 1st pick. That does not mean they are required to take the 1st place team. That is why in 2005 they took BYU over Utah even though Utah won the game. A 10-2 or 9-3 BYU team goes to the Vegas bowl. They are about $$$ and BYU travels and sells the game out. BYU fans, face it. Unless we win out and Boise loses, we are going to the Vegas bowl again. Oh, and Ute fans with your 55-33 all-time advantage or whatever. Lets live in modern times where since BYU football became something BYU fans and admin cared about, BYU owns a 25-11 edge. Ute rational is like saying Yale would dominate the Big 10 because in the 1880's and 90's they used to beat all those schools. The fact is that in the era of actual helmets, not leatherheads, Byu owns Utah.
Re: Utes Posting on BYU Story | 11:51 a.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Go read any of the Utes stories in this BYU favored newspaper. Half of the posts are from BYU fans. Don't get angered if Utes post on your story. The first poster of this article metioned, "This is exactly what we're going to do the the Utes". As a fun, competetive bunch, what do you expect the Ute Nation to do? We're just having fun the same way the BYU posters do it. The difference this year is we have something to back up our confidence and $18 million dollar on the line on November 22. If we win, every team in the MWC gets $1.5 million on top of any minor bowl a team plays in. If we lose, we simply receive our pittance from Vegas, Poinsettia or Armed Forces. Even BYU has an outside chance of BCS if Boise loses and BYU wins. Won't happen! Go Utes!
