Storm the Field | 12:58 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Maybe after this historic victory, Cougar fans will storm the field.

That is if the friendly event staff will help them get their walkers onto the field.
Re: Storm the Field | 1:46 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
We aren't Utah fans. Storming the field after beating an unranked opponent that isn't your rival is ridiculous. Sound familiar???
good luck | 4:27 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Zoobs will have their hands full with SDSU because they have only won a couple of games and they are evenly matched. It's too bad the Utes thumped your precious TCU, it must hurt to be fourth or fifth in the league. What happened to the pretentious and hilarious Quest t-shirts. I would love to have one and wear it in the future. Good times, way to go Coogies, you always bring a smile to my face with the over analysis of scenarios at what could happen. Keep dreaming and maybe it (a good victory) will happen in a non-BCS game. You just are not the UTES and never will be, but fourth place is a comfortable and safe position to stay until we decide to allow you some room. Big brother Utes will decide later about zoobie kitties destiny as they do every year.

Yes, it is important to win at home for the Cougar fans. As the records show, this has been accomplished quite handily in the recent past.

But the challenge is to get the team up for each game away from home. Don't count Air Force 'down and out'. Mendenhall's challenge is great to assure that something disasterous doesn't happen at Air Force. This could happen if tooooooo much focus and emotion is put into the Nov 22nd game with Utah when the focus and emotion should be given to the game at hand.

That having been said, then focus and attention should be directed first at the San Diego State game TODAY - forget about whether it is a home game or not.

Focus on Air Force should then begin right after the San Diego game, yes knowing that Utah comes after that. But the whole chase could be blown if the Cougs drop the game to Air Force because they think they have that game 'in the bag'. Air Force is going to be up for BYU, you can count on that, as will San Diego TODAY ! !

Go Cougars ! ! ! (TODAY)! ! !

storming the field. Worry about finishing third in the conference -- AF, on the road, next week. LOL!!
Eugene | 6:47 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Disregard the Storm the Fielders and get back to the business at hand . . . thumping the Aztecs. This should be a great coming out again party for the Cougars.

Bring your "A" game, tune up well and hard so that you are prepared going into SLC. A Cougar win over the Aztecs and then Utah won't wash out the sour taste of the TCU loss, but it will at least bring a co-conferance championship and a higher ranking come BCS time.

The future is in your hands . . .
Eugene | 7:00 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Oops! Forgot to include a Cougar win over Air Force as well. Should speak volumes if the Cougs can beat the Cadets and Utes on their own fields. Tough tasks but possible as long as BYU can block out their TCU nightmare.

Burying Aztecs, grounding Air Force and thumping Utah, sounds like a lot of fun in the blue future! Is it possible?
Re Re: Storm the Field | 7:03 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
After that TCU/Utah game was rather stupid that they took down those poles. That was not a perfect game. Can't wait that we Cougar Fans storm the field.
Dick | 7:26 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
While going undefeated at home for three consecutive years is a very nice accomplishment, it needs to be put in perspective when comparing it to BYU's past.

The home OOC opponents the last three years have been Tulsa, Utah State, Arizona (5-7), Eastern Washington, Northern Iowa, and a terrible UCLA team. Gone are the names like Notre Dame, USC, Penn State, Texas, aTm, Miami, and good UCLA, Washington, and Arizona State teams that used to come to Provo. Also, notice the addition of DI-AA teams basically each year that BYU never used to play.

So, congrats to the Cougars for sweeping the MWC three years in a row and for beating some very weak OOC opponents.
Wayne Rout | 7:39 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Only small people refuse to give credit where credit is due. The Cougars have done a great job turning the program in the right direction. Let's give credit where credit is due. And a cheap shot at the fans...well, it defines the character of the writer.
Red Blood | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Dominate at home against UNLV? I was there, and what I saw was far from dominant.
Good luck, Kewgs!!! | 8:04 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008

Make us proud!!!
Make it a very memorable, tearful, Kodak, KSL TV moment!!!

(who knows? with Airforce, Utah coming up, this may be your last win of the season)

Not so fast. BYU hasn't been that dominant of late. They need to reestablish that dominance against the MWC cellar-dweller team. Especially defensively. The BYU defense has taken an about face after their bye week. Time to stand at attention and do another about-face!
Walker Supporter | 8:08 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
You silly Ute, nobody takes walkers to the game. I will be storming the field on my Jazzy!
We WILL storm the field | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
...and tear down the goal posts after our win on Nov 22.
Re: Re: Storm the Field | 8:16 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
As long as I can remember, the policy at the "U" has been that the athletic teams which are comprised of students and belong to the students. For example, the students used to get into the games free (though I'm not sure that is case now...perhaps a small fee?!?). It is great to be a participant in "U" sports.

Can someone explain to me why BYU fans think they have the right to dictate how Utah fans celebrate a win?? Far as I can tell, the players very much enjoy celebrating with their fans and the fans enjoy giving high fives to their players. Why do BYU fans think they have a vote in the practice???

I am convinced that the issue BYU fans have with Ute fans storming the field is that The University of Utah allows the practice, BYU does not. Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy.
Re: Storm the Field... | 8:33 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Don't worry about the comments. The TDS is just worried about what will happen on Nov 22nd when we rush the field for the 3rd time this season.

The kitty fans saw what a trampled cougar looked like at the TCU game. Mow they just don't want to see their poor cougies get trampled twice in the same game!
Re:Re:Re: Storm the Field | 8:34 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Great observation. To BYU fans: there are appropriate ways to bring about change, even at BYU.

Your statements about Utah fans storming their field make is sound like BYU fans 'choose' not to storm their field. Typical BYU SPIN. The truth is, if you were of such character you could stand tall and admit it, BYU fans are not 'allowed' to storm the field. Therefore, as in all other things BYU, you want Utah fans to be like you.

You want change at BYU? Change it. But do not suppose that you can dictate policy at the University of Utah.
Domination at Home? | 8:40 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Oh yeah, they really dominate at home, just ask UNLV and New Mexico.
oldpuebloguy | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Jealousy is not a good thing. Enjoy the game today because you know you care about our Cougs and love watching them play!
Anonymous | 8:43 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Dear fellow Cougars, why did you boo the team? An 8-1 record is really really good. Not perfect, but really, really good. We have an excellent, albeit human coach in Bronco. If you listen to the Utes and Aggies you would think that we have had a record of 2-7.

It is my wish that Bronco continues to coach long enough to beat LaVell's total win record - but if Bronco gets harrased for not achieving a perfect season, then he just might up and quit.

As a BYU alum, I was pleased to hear the players at the fireside here in Dallas, which might have been instrumental in encouraging a young man to become active again and maybe even serve a mission. This is a football team I am proud of. I'll repeat that - this is a football team I am proud of win or lose.

Go Cougars - fans cheer the team. Nothing is gained by booing. And someone very valuable might be lost along the way.

Oh, and if you are reading this, you aren't an Aggie or Ute fan: you are either a BYU or anti-BYU fan. Well, maybe an Aztec. . .
reality check | 9:13 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
just make sure you don't lose. Utah needs your SOS to be as healthy as possible on Nov. 22nd. That being said go Aztecs!
Re: Re: Storm the field | 9:19 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
If your team pulled off a huge last minute win, wouldn't you storm the field? If not, I guess you are not a real football fan. Those kind of games are what makes football such an awesome sport!
Re: Re: Storm the Field | 9:28 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
"BYU is now 1-13 in games against ranked opponents, dating back to the 1999 season."
-Directly from BYU's football site after the TCU game.
You can make fun of us for "storming the field," but we can easily make fun of your "program!"
Stormin Normin | 9:28 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Utes storm in black, because we win big games!
GO SDSU | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Oh I can hardly wait for the chest thumpers, pointing their fingers in the air, shouting we are #1.
Thumping the SDSU team wowie, doesn't that make for grand football. BYU fans has an exaggerated opinion of their team. The team on the other hand just got fitted for new smaller support equipment.
Anonymous | 9:44 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I'm not a fan of articles written prior to the game that assume a win. Let's go win a game first, then talk about what it means.
We are Cougs | 9:47 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
We also don't storm someone else's field and tear down their goal posts when we win on the road.

We recognize the difference between a truly big game and another victory in the conference.

We respect our opponents and their fans, especially great players like Brian Johnson, Louie Sakoda, and Paul Kruger.
Pocatello Cougar | 10:03 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I've always thought that there should be no celebration when a team does what is expected. The Braves never celebrated during that run of 14 or 15 consecutive division championships because they were supposed to win.

If the Cougars beat the Aztecs by 30 today, they should walk off the field with a smile beause they played to expectations.

Now, if they beat Utah in two weeks, they should tear down those goal posts themselves.
Re: Re:Storm the Field | 10:17 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Hey don't worry ..We will storm the field after we beat an unranked BYU team too. After you lose to AFA and drop out of the polls.
where's all the byu fans | 10:21 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
your what? hybernating till next spring? So you can get back to doing what you do best, trash talking and abstaining from reality.
BYU Fan (The Original) | 10:23 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
The SDSU game means nothing. Besides that hardly anyone can view it on "THE MOUNTAIN" anyway. So, who give a wit? BYU's postseason ended with the TCU loss, and will truly end with a bang with a loss at Air Force, and then at Utah; totaling 3 losses. As I have said ad nausium, BYU is not a road team...they do not have the athleticism of the OL and DL to make things happen. Take a look at some of the elite teams players in the trenches lines. Those Texas Tech offensive lineman are pure animals, for instance. They couldn't pass muster to qualify for entrance to an institution like BYU. So, get used to it. As long as entrance requirements are what they are at schools like BYU, you are what you are. The Jim McMahon's will never go to BYU in the future; they are "bad boys". I still enjoy listening, not watching BYU sports, because I have Dish....I refuse to change over to the other providers for the Mountain Network. The Mountain Network, from my experience viewing a bit at one of my son's home showed what a mediocre telecast they have; it way ludicrous.

GO COUGARS!
Re: Storm the Field | 11:14 a.m. Nov. 8, 2008
We won't storm the field against SDSU as they only have one win. Utah showed you need to beat a team with at least 2 wins (Oregon State, 2-3) to storm the field.
Re: We are Cougs | 12:03 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Where did that come from? BYU fans, or fans of any school playing on the road for that matter, had better not storm the home team's field. That's a matter of common sense...is it not?

The topic of discussion here is whether it is appropriate for the home team fans to storm their own field. For the record, I agree with the arguments posted above. BYU fans would storm the field every home game if they were allowed to do it.

Like other's, I do not see where BYU fans have a vote in policies and practices at the University of Utah. The fans enjoy it and the players enjoy it...GO UTES!!!!!!
Go Cowboys! | 12:45 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Wyoming is up on Tennessee? I know the Vols are bad, but seriously? Let's go Cowboys! Give the MWC a good win over an SEC team.

Excuses, excuses.
Coin Collector | 2:36 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Dominant at home against bad teams.... soft a rose petal against good teams.
casual fan | 3:48 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
There's so much acrimony between fans of Utah and BYU, maybe someone should declare a moratorium on the two schools playing each other for the next five years or so, if for no other reason so that maybe everybody can grow up a little bit in that time.
BYU didn't storm | 4:00 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
BYU didn't storm the field, because they lost to TCU. It was a big game gone wrong.
Pathetic Ute fans | 4:15 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
You are one of the most pathetic group of fans I have ever seen. Every time BYU wins a game or does something well you all have to show your insecurity and get on every board you can find bad mouthing BYU. Work on supporting your own team. There's still one more week before the latest Holy War starts. Give us a break until then. The best way to know which team is the best is by whichever team wins on the field. Oh and by the way you guys got lucky that the TCU kicker forgot how to kick. Don't get to full of yourselves or you might end up eating crow.
To good luck 4:27 | 5:25 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
With all due respect, exactly how short term is your memory?

Who has won the MWC each of the past two seasons? Who has won the Las Vegas Bowl each of the past two years? And who has beaten the "Big Brother Utes" each of the past two years?

Your comments make it sound like the "zoobie kitties" have never even come close to beaten the "Big Brother Utes" much less do it two straight years.

Please Ute fans, keep up that overconfidence.

Re: Pathetic ute fans | 5:28 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I will just have to say if Ute fans are pathetic for badmouthing BYU on every board then BYU fans are equally as pathetic because they do the same thing. Of course a rational person would see there are a few from each side that does this so generalizing the whole group based on a few people is idiotic.

I have seen plenty of teams lose games because their placekicker sucks or missed, doesn't change the outcome because scoreboard is all that matters.

Also if you can't stand some trashtalking among rivals, then find a new hobby. I hear scrapbooking is real popular.
BYU soft? | 7:08 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I always laugh when I read how weak the Utes think the Cougs are. The past two years who has won the game between them as well as the conference championship? The past two years who has had an undefeated season at home? Who lost to UNLV? I truly believe that any team can lose to any other team on any given day. It's called the "human" factor. No team is perfect and no player is either, (except Louie... he's Utahs leading point scorer.) I also get a kick out of both teams reliving the past. BYU won a national championship. The Utes won a BCS football game. In my book, a national championship trumps a BCS game. So all you Utes, find religion quick and pray to the football gods that your defense brings their A-game to stop BYU's offense because your offense is LOUSY! Louie is guaranteed points, so BYU's defense needs to keep him 50 yards out. Shouldn't be too hard, Brian Johnson is pathetic. RES should bring the degree of difficulty up a bit for BYU, so that should even the teams out. Lookin forward to a great matchup. GO COUGS!!

BYU 31 Utah 9
Re: Good Luck | 8:09 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
Thank you for beating TCU for us. That means when BYU beats Utah, we will tie for the MWC championship. I really hope you Utah fans are sending TCU's kicker some flowers, cause if he woulda made those two kicks, Utah would have a loss on their record too. And as for controlling the Cougars destiny for us? So Weddle left Harline wide open on purpose? Or maybe Wittingham told your safeties to let Collie behind them? Any way thanks for throwing us a bone on those two plays, and for beating TCU. No we are not the Utes. But we are similar. The only difference? We have tradition that goes past 2004. Harline is STILL open.
Stephen | 10:03 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
I have to agree. The TV deal the MW Conference made with the Mountain Network was, is and always will be ridiculous. As much as I love BYU football, I will not stoop to mediocrity. We won today...against a team going in the opposite direction, but mark my words, SDSU will remember all their losses and will turn it around and do to others what has been done to them. Regarding Air Force, the Cougars will lose this game by 10 points. And the Utah game; Utah's speed will do the Cougars in. And yes, the Cougs are NOT an away team. How do you spell C.H.O.K.E? The Cougs havenotoriously perfected the spelling. And it's not just in football...unfortunately. BYU will lose their last two games and it won't be pretty. You Utes, should pull for the Y to beat Air Force so that you can win your last game against a ranked opponent.
Put your money... | 10:19 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
where your mouth is, BYU fans. Remember to beat AFA next week and get ready to be beaten by a team (Utah) that took TCU's best punch much better than you did. Yes, that matters, it shows we matched up with them better and handled their mighty #2 defense and were able to get the "W". Can you say the same?
Anonymous | 10:24 p.m. Nov. 8, 2008
For all the chatter we're seeing on this board from Ute fans, I think some of them have lost a little perspective. This is a BYU story. All this crowing just validates what they vehemently deny: It's still about BYU. Well, at least it is for the small handful of Ute fans who post stupid comments here.

While I believe that Utah has the better team this year and will likely beat BYU, it's hilarious that Ute fans act like BYU is actually on par with SDSU. BYU's one loss is to TCU. Offensively, Utah did not do much better against TCU than BYU did. On Utah's home field they scored two field goals and a touchdown. At TCU, BYU scored one touchdown. If Utah had played at TCU, how would that game have ended? The odds are Utah would not have scored 13 points.

If/when Utah beats BYU on Nov 22, they will obviously have bragging rights over BYU. But until then, BYU has lost only one conference game in the last three seasons.

And this story is still about BYU.
Story Time | 6:09 p.m. Nov. 9, 2008
It will be your good nite story on 11/22. Sweet dreams!!
Meow Mix | 6:15 p.m. Nov. 9, 2008
Kitties are ready to roll against the Academy. We will mix it up in the secondary and then scratch the Utes to pieces on 11/22!! MEOW!!!
