WOW! Alta is BETTER than last year! You teams that get to play them, good luck! You're going to need it. They are as talented as I've seen in years! Congrats to a great Alta team.

That is if you play like you did today. I was excited to see Layton's QB with his 60% completion rate. I would bet it was around 30% today. He looked like a sophmore out there. I know he is better and will need to bring his best to beat the Eagles. Defense looks good but Skyline will win.

It's not that Alta is better than last year it's just the Viewmont is worse than their team last year. Besides, how would you know? You didn't play Alta last year.
to RHS Fan | 11:12 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
You were absolutely right!! Conservative play calling, being uptight...it showed right down to the cheerleaders and the crowd. Too bad, because RHS has LOADS of talented players.

And it looks like Region 3 totally tanks...except for Bingham.
throwing it away | 11:17 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
I was frustrated to see the Layton QB not throw it away. You can throw it away when the QB is out of the pocket right?
True Blue Layton Fan | 11:32 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
GAME TIME!!! 5A State Quarterfinals (and my picks)

Skyline @ Layton.....Layton by 6
Jordan @ Bingham.....Bingham by 28

Syracuse @ P. Grove.....PG by 11
Davis @ Alta.....Alta by 35

* Layton has their hands full with an unpredictable Skyline. The Eagles have redemption on their minds.
* If Jordan plays like they did vs Alta, they could possibly beat Bingham. If same team as in 1st round, Bingham will win big.
* Quite the defensive battle with Syracuse & PG, but who knows...the offenses may decide to take over.
* Alta will pound Davis.

As a supporter of Layton this year, I have to agree with all except one. I know it is hard to go against your heart as it is for me, but I really don't believe this Layton team will advance next week. Also, what has happened to the fan base. Each week the fans are dropping out. Today was pathetic for a playoff game. The stands were only half full, whats up?
Draper Dude | 11:44 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
If Alta didn't let off the gas then Jordan wouldn't have come back. Jordan is overrated and will lose. Alta is over confident and teams can surprise them. They should go to the finals in the "easy" side of the bracket, but I know they've had 4-5 scares this year! Never count anyone out! This next week will be another good one!
True Blue Layton Fan | 11:54 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
to Layton supporter @ 11:40 PM. I'd love to see Layton win it all this year. PLain and simple, not as good as last year's team. This is probably last good Layton team for at least next 2-3 years, so I hope to see a great turnout at next week's game.

Where were you sitting? Students must have been sleeping still....as there weren't as many wandering on the ground level. The home north side and middle of stands were packed full. Night games always better in Layton.

Hunter showed a disappointing support fanbase. Visitors stands probably only 20% full.

As the proud Dad of Ogden HS's first year head coach as well as his Defensive Coordinator, I couldn't be prouder of the great group of kids at OHS and the job they did together, Great Season!
Region 6 | 12:01 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
All you Region 6 haters, get a life!
First off, we all know that Region 6, is a top heavy Region, with East, Highland, and Cottonwood, usually ruling the roost. So West lost? What of it? Like any of you other schools, were going to go into happy valley, and knock off Timpview U! So Cyprus lost? What of it? Cyprus is down this year, and they were the lower seed, in their matchup anyways, if Mountain Crest, or anyone else, for that matter, thinks Cyprus is indicative of the talent level, in Region 6, they're sadly mistaken. Let's see, the #1 seed, in Region 5, vs. the #5 seed, from Region 6? Get real!
Anyone knows, when we talk of Region 6, we're talking East, Highland, and Cottonwood. 2 out of 3, ain't bad, just ask Region 7, who only has Timpview, in it now? Region 7, got smoked, and let's talk about Region 5 next week:
Timpview vs. Sky View - Region 5 loses
Cottonwood vs. Bonneville - Region 5 loses
Mtn. Crest vs. Dixie - It will be close
So, 7 is out, except Timpview, and next week, 5, Mtn. Crest is only one left?
layton stands were packed | 12:05 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
layton supporter. look at ksl's video clips. it clearly shows layton's stands were packed full. maybe you were at another game.
Layton Supporter | 12:07 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I was sitting on the Southend. I have been to games where there wasn't even standing room. Perhaps the fans are realizing what you and I are..... I wish I could say it's time form Basketball but have you seen the Lancers play? Volleyball team looks promising though.
Region 6 | 12:19 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Did I really read a post of someone defending region 6? Three region 6 teams (including EAST) got throttled. Highland escaped with a 2 point win and Cottonwood gave up 24 points in one quarter and won by 7. You can hang your hat on Cottonwood all you want but the reality is this: Cottonwood is good, but region 6 as a whole is pathetic. But keep telling yourself Region 6 is great if that's what makes you feel good.
re:region 6 | 12:32 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
So Mountain Crest beating Cyprus was no indication of how tough R6 is? What about Sky View a number three seed thumping a two seeded East? The Highland/Bountiful game was a great game but give credit when it's due. Region 5 won three out of four and Mountain Crest will bury Dixie before falling to Timpview. Mountain Crest or Sky View if they were in the other bracket would more than hold their own against Cottonwood.
True Blue Layton Fan | 12:39 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Have I seen the Lancer bball team play? Volleyball....Layton took region crown this week.

STILL GOOD FOOTBALL LEFT. DON'T BE GIVING UP ON THEM YET. Skyline is unpredictable at best. They did rush for 350+ yards vs Lone Peak. If Layton can kickstart the O sooner than halftime, then Layton will control the clock and let the D help out. I predict Layton over Skyline by 6. Will be another awesome night!
Playoff Predictions | 12:58 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008

Couple things to throw out there. Tonight was the night of the first games of the playoffs. It also happens to be Halloween. That said the games were obviously earlier. Many fans couldn't come to games because of their work schedules. On another note, the reason everyone is bashing region 1 and doubting them is because of region 1. If you talk yourself up and say how much parity there is what are people supposed to think when two of your teams get totally destroyed? Obviously they're going to think that's how all of the teams are because of all the "parity" talk from region 1. Don't blame everyone else, it's your own fault for running your mouths. Tonight region 1 beat out Kearns, Riverton, and Hunter... Wow... Don't try to make it seem like all the teams in the region are good and roughly equal unless you're ready to be labeled as the same when one of the teams lose.

Re: Region 6 & re:region 6

You said:
"Mountain Crest or Sky View if they were in the other bracket would more than hold their own against Cottonwood."

You can wish all you want, but you got what you got, so I guess we'll never find out, huh? Get to steppin', get ready to go home!
I predict, within the next couple weeks, Region 5, will be eradicated, from the playoffs! Chew on that!

A Mom | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
After reading comment after comment, I thought wow! Sure football is great, but the great thing about football is the boys who play their hearts out for a sport they love. Coaches who work with these guys day in and day out. I'm a Region 6 Mom and I congratulate every team that won. Thanks goes out to all teams win or lose for keeping us adults entertained. Good luck to everyone who advanced forward on their games next week. Go Colts!
To Viewmont Parent | 9:47 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
No they are not that great... you guys just dont have the talent to compete with them. They are beatable.
Re: Region 5 Haters | 9:49 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
HUH! A little clarity in your writing please. It's obvious that region 5 schools are also a bit better in english proficiency.
True Blue Layton Fan | 9:56 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
ALTAFAN & anybody else that wants a clarification on the parity in Region 1. You obviously look at parity as a negative or bad thing. I look at parity as a good thing. I like parity in sports. It gets old having the same old team win, of course, unless it's your team that keeps winning. The best trash talkers come from the winning tradition schools....because they have something to boast about. Layton fans are not good trash talkers. We are good trash hopers.

Again, THIS YEAR, the PARITY is in region 1. Region 1, from top to bottom, is the toughest region WITHIN the region. NO DOUBT. Look at the intra-regin records. 5 teams extremely competitive. That equals enjoyable football. It means unpredictable games, that as a fan, is more fun to watch. One of the best games I've ever seen, drove me nuts...but was the Layton Cotton game. Layton lost the heartbreaker, but super game. I prefer a tighter defensive game, but it was enjoyable and worth my few bucks.

PARITY IN REGION 1 IS GOOD, FUN FOR FANS.
Cottonwood fan | 10:46 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
In the 4A playoffs there was only one upset. That was Highland over Bountiful, and their point differential was only .3, so that would be a pickem anyway.

So using the Parry's Power Guide, and the top 3 schools in each, the regions fall out like this:
Region 6 Avg power ranking 99.0
Region 5 Avg power ranking 96.4
Region 9 Avg power ranking 94.4
Region 7 Avg power ranking 89.9

Re: Re: Region 5 Haters

OK, let me spell it out, since you're a little slow on the uptake.........
i-n t-h-e n-e-x-t c-o-u-p-l-e o-f w-e-e-k-s R-e-g-i-o-n 5 w-i-l-l b-e o-u-t o-f t-h-e p-l-a-y-o-f-f-s!
Do you understand now?
Cottonwood fan re: 5A | 1:22 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Doing the same for 5A as I did on 4A...
There was one upset... Skyline over Lone Peak, a 3.6 point underdog...

Region 2 Avg power ranking 107.2
Region 3 Avg power ranking 103.1
Region 4 Avg power ranking 99.9
Region 1 Avg power ranking 96.2

Just food for argument
Region 6 Haters | 1:34 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
This argument, is pointless. This is the final year, of these alignments, so who cares! Hate on Region 6, this year, all you want, because next year, it all changes!

K Dog | 1:46 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Hey everyone, watch Harvey Langi Stiff arm chris washington in the highlight video from the game. Its hecka tight. hahahahaha
ALTAFAN | 2:53 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
TBLF, I'm not saying parity is a bad thing by any means. All I'm saying is region 1 fans shouldn't be suprised that there's trash talking from SLC when we keep seeing "SLC teams are WEAK" and "Alta and Bingham are overrated" then 2 region 1 teams get destroyed. When there's so much parity and 2 teams get blown out we look to the parity that's been talked about and figure the same will happen to the rest of region 1.

Title IX is for schools not newspapers. And if was that important to you you would be at the volleyball, watching so you would not need an update
Utah HS Football Fan | 5:04 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I think Syracuse is a little better than Layton and can beat Pleasant Grove if they play tough D again. And I also Think that Layton can beat Skyline by doing the same playing tough D and getting the ball to Lavaughn more and get him back to all state form. As for Bingham I actually respect them they don't trash talk as much as Alta, Bingham should also win. And Alta big heads, probably just the fans I personally hope they loose, let's leave it at that becasue I can't say what I really want to say about them.
LPHS | 10:53 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
To all you LPHS football parents out there who indeed "ran off" an excellent coach, it looks like without a doubt you did have all the answers. Who are you blaming now?
True Blue Layton Fan | 11:10 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
That Parry's guide is not valid. All any intelligent person has to do is look at it, and you'll see the gross problems. Therefore, those stats aren't good to me, no offense, but Parry is terrible, has been all week.

ALTAFAN, I know some people may say SLC teams are weak.....but that's just trash talking. There are a few good teams out regions 2/3 this year. That's it.
Hey TBLF | 7:21 a.m. Nov. 2, 2008
YOU were the biggest trash talker all year. You called Bingham and Alta overrated. Now in the last few weeks you have stopped. Why??? I know the answer...you now might have to play one of them and you know in your heart it could get ugly. Region 1 top to bottom was very competitive, I think if you switched them around any 2 of the 5 that had played Bingham & Alta would have resulted in the same outcome. Region 1 would still have 3 teams in, but they would have been 'any' of the 3 that played Riverton, Hunter and Kearns.
LPHS COMPLAINER | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 2, 2008
LP WENT ABOUT AS FAR AS THEY COULD GO WITH WHAT THE HAD.COACH TONY HAD A GREAT 1ST YEAR. ASK THE PLAYERS WHO THE WOULD RATHER PLAY FOR? 2-9 FROM LAST SEASON OR 7-4 THIS SEASON.THE ATTITUDE OF THE PLAYERS WAS SO MUCH IMPROVED OVER PAST SEASONS.A CHANGE WAS NEEDED,TIME TO MOVE FORWARD.GREAT JOB COACH TONY M.AND A GREAT SEASON FOR THE KNIGHTS.
True Blue Layton Fan | 8:22 p.m. Nov. 2, 2008
to Hey TBLF @ 7:21 am. if you think I've been the biggest trash talker all year because "AT ONE TIME" I called both Alta & Bingham overrated, then I have one word for you.....WHATEVER!!!!!

I thought Alta & Bingham WERE overrated at the beginning of the year...for the 1st month or so. Bingham started with a loss to a Skyline team, which at that time, they shouldn't have. Alta had a soft schedule.
ALTAFAN | 8:59 p.m. Nov. 2, 2008
TBLF come on, Alta played seven teams that made it to the playoff's (eight if you count Grant, CA who would have made it). Layton played six (including Cottonwood). Now granted, I don't think Brighton should have been in the playoff's but take them out and that's still equal to Layton with six (seven counting Grant). To be fair though the season with maybe 2 in state exceptions did seem pretty easy. It seems you learned the error of your ways a long time ago though so it's all good.
True Blue Layton Fan | 2:18 a.m. Nov. 3, 2008
OK ALTAFAN, you made me go back and look at who Alta played. Again, I said they had a soft schedule the 1st month of play. With exception of Bingham game, you played Spanish Fork, Kearns & Hunter. Sure, they're all playoff teams, but weak ones at that. Regardless of when the #2s were put in, Alta should've also beat Kearns & Hunter by more than 28-0 & 21-0 respectively.....especially with all the crap that Layton got for only beating Hunter last week by 17.

I'm not in error.
LPHS | 2:42 p.m. Nov. 3, 2008
I hate to say this but I don't think your football woes are going to end anytime soon. I've seen your upcoming classes and it doesn't look good for you over the next couple of years. Maybe the next 4 years. Plus your not going to have the cakewalk teams you had in your region this year, next year. It just gets tougher with the exception of AF. Attitude is great, hopefully that attitude is still good after the next few seasons.
