Stop with the Region 1 offense and scoreboard. The 'Real' teams don't care about what region they come from or defending their region. It looks like only one Region 3 team moves on. But that same team will move on next week and the week after. You get my point. Syracuse is a nice team and beat up on a pathetic Kearns team. I have seen Kearns, Riverton and Hunter. Bingham could have scored 100 on ALL of them...well maybe 80 on Riverton. You can pump your chests but with the close games up there in Region 1 all year, I would not be very confident after what Bingham and Alta did today. As far as your scoreboard comment. Well the SCOREBOARD will read '0' for Syracuse if you ever play Bingham or Alta.

Light Blue learn how to spell. R-1 isn't the power house it was last year. Look for an all R-2 final. Clearfield could have beat Skyline today. They are over rated as always.

We would like to see some scores for 2A volleyball. How about an update for us?!?!?!?!?!?!?

sucks. Northridge came out and got slapped. It was just too easy for the miners. Next week is a big game. Jordan won't make the same mistakes they made last time. Step it up Bingham.
re: Logan High | 7:09 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
You beat a weak football team today! Juan Diego will spank you! Your offense is solid but your defense is pathetic. JD will control Manning and you wont be able to answer their team speed. Logan is just not a complete enough team this year to stop Juan Diego.
RHS Fan | 7:20 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
As to all of those who could not understand what we were saying earlier in the week on the other post about Riverton and how things are. I hope you attended the game if not you should have. It was on full display right down to benching one of your best players rather than making the proper adjustments and coaching him up. And to think one of the posters was making fun of us because we are looking to the future. We have no choice that's all there ever is. One and done again!

Nice 3 pt. win over a weak SF team.

Ok everyone, here's some fun stuff to look at. Everyone outside of the Salt Lake valley has been saying "SLC teams are WEAK!". Well just to prove this down (and this is only in 5A) SLC teams scored a combined total of 213 points this week as opposed to the total of 188 by the teams North and South of SLC. After seeing the Alta/Viewmont game and seeing the score of the Bingham/N.Ridge game I seriously hope everyone in region 1 was exaggerating about how much parity there is, just for the sake of keeping things interesting. Still think Alta and Bingham are overrated region 1? If so, here's something else to chew on. Layton, region 1's pride, beat Hunter 24-7. Comparatively Alta beat Hunter 21-0 (with starters only playing half the game). Bingham beat Hunter 41-7. Davis beat Riverton tonight 28-14. Bingham beat Riverton 48-21 (that's a difference of fourteen points compared to a difference of 27). PG played Brighton (don't brag PG there's nothing to brag about here) they beat them 37-10. Alta beat Brighton 45-0 (starters half the game). As far as I understood LP was 2nd in region4. They lost to Skyline 31-3.

whats this new position that bonneville has its called Quaterback i think thats pretty interesting.
ALTAFAN | 8:11 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
From what I understand LP played PG pretty close and was supposed to be very good. Skyline isn't looking that great this year but they rolled LP. Maybe PG should start to reevaluate how much trash they talk... As for the Jordan game, because of the late start time I was able to make it to most of the game there. When I got there it was mid 2nd quarter and Jordan was up 23-6. By the end of the night the score was 36-33 Jordan. After last week I expected a better game. Jordan lost all of their heart and intensity. Luckily for Jordan they are talented at recovering onside kicks... If they play Bingham the way they played tonight it's over for the diggers. If they play with the intensity they played with last week they may have a chance. Layton did you just have a really bad week when you got shut out? If not and that's how you normally play, you can say goodbye to any hopes of making it to state again. From comparing everything, if region 1 plays "SMASH MOUTH FOOTBALL" I'd rather not see it in SLC.
Beatdiggers for life | 8:13 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
all you region one, Hills-have-eyes teams have another thing comin. Region two will roll next week...AGAIN. strap up your helmets cus we are the most dominant region and have been for the last 15 years. we breed champions in SLC!
hey altafan | 8:13 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Wow, you are comparing points scored. I'm glad you can do math. Just remember that it's not over yet and neither alta or bingham has won state yet. Just let the kids play and do their best.
Oh, and if you do lose. Don't try to blame it on a bad game. Just admit that you lost. I wish all schools left a great state tournament.
ALTAFAN | 8:29 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
RE hey altafan,

If Alta loses I'm not going to blame anyone but Alta. May the better team win is the way I look at it. When Alta lost to Grant I didn't say a word about having 2 TD's called back. I said Grant was a better team and deserved the win and Alta needed to work on turn overs. I have no problem admitting to losing. Bring the team that can beat us and I'll gladly take my hat off to them. By the way, what team do you support? From your post you sound a little bitter...

Congratulations Juab! Very nice opening win today against Beaver. One down and two more to go. Good luck next Saturday with the re-match against North Summit.

logan will pick juan diego apart with there passing
Timp's D is NASTY... | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Cougfan here who wanted to see TV play (to see all of the future cougs). First time seeing them. What really stands out is there D. Those guys fly around and lay the wood. The gentleman i sat next to says the starting D has given up 3 TD's all year. They have some athletes. Excited to see the SkyView game!

Congrats to the other 4a and 5a winners! I love the playoffs!!
Dark Knight | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Region 1 goes 3-2 in the first round and I think can go 2-1 in the Quarters with Layton and Syracuse winning! They may not have the best teams in the state but having 2 teams in the Semi's is pretty good for the region! I am a believer of bingham after watching the game tonight and they are legit on both sides of the ball! Knights got down early and couldnt catch up! too much mental mistakes and big plays. Good luck Bingham the rest of the way and Go region 1
LONE PEAK | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
You "run off" a dedicated coach.

BIG MISTAKE!

The only constant at LP appears to be over-indulged players.

BEAGLES 31 LP 3

OUCH!

GREAT MATCH UPS NEXT WEEK:

SKYLINE VS LAYTON

JORDAN VS BINGHAM

TIMPVIEW VS. SKYVIEW
Enough with REGION 1... | 8:44 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
it'll all play out.. if they're good, they'll be there at the end. if they're not, they won't be.. (I'm still 100% convinced it's an Alta vs. Bingham matchup)

Right now, who cares!! lots of other great stories from today!

I will hand it to them they have passionate fans.
To Hawk Man | 8:48 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Your right it isnt up north it is at Timpview. Oh how I wish Timpview could play Alta. They would beat Alta so bad.
Skyview vs. Timpview | 8:50 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
i can't wait to see if Skyview's offense can move the ball on Timpview's defense. No one has all year, but what Skyview did this week was pretty amazing in handling East like that.

That is what i'm looking forward to next week. Also interested in the Skyline vs. Layton game
Digger Fan | 8:51 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Hey Jordan way to go in tonight's game. It was great!! On to Bingham next week. See ya there.
well 2 are gone.. | 8:52 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
lets get the rest of the region 1 teams out next week so we don't have to hear from their fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TBird Alum | 8:55 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
no Alta vs. Timpview talk for now.. no one would kill anyone.. let the teams focus on their playoff runs and then afterwards hope that Wong accepts the game for next year :)
timpview is for real. | 9:01 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
west fan here. couldn't believe how hard timpview can hit. they're safeties are really good.

i'm proud of our boys! i wish the coaches were better prepared. you can't run up the middle against timpview. you need to be creative.

west high played their hearts out. they were just outmanned and outcoached today, but we are still super proud!!

Way to analyze the State. Get out of your Falcon bubble. PG could have scored 60. They were at 37 half way thru the third and put in the JV. So quit analyzing scores Falcon. You see, PG has class. They dont need to run it up. They were waiting to snap out of respect for Brighton as they rolled down the field. When you are up 30 you respect the other program. The Falcons dont know about that I guess. Or you dont as you take thier name as yours. LP had 5 of thier best players out and others banged up. That wasnt the real LP. And SF that almost beat Jordan that should have beat you-PG rolled them so PG will roll the AltaFalcons. See how dumb your logic is? Just love the game and cheer for your team. Enough analyzing from you please. You dont know the game well enough to bore us with your biased remarks. Keep it sor the bubble lovers.

Very frustrating 1st half, as it was 0-0 until the 1st Layton score with :20 seconds left in the 1st half. The O just couldn't get rolling. Something may be dysfunctional with the call playing. Been like this all year with the exception of a couple games. The 1st half....start slow. The 2nd half, Layton wakes up. My prediction, Layton WILL LOSE if they do this from here on out.

I will bring up last year's 49-0 drubbing only to say....it was LAST YEAR. It's a new year.

ALTAFAN, 35 points difference between offenses of regions 1/4 vs 2/3 doesn't say anything. 35 pts is nothing with so many games. You have a point with how the larger SL schools won by a wider margin, except for the Alta over HUnter win by 21 & Layton's win by 17 (I predicted Layton would win by 20 today). To say Alta brought in their #2s, well Layton did too later in the game. Also, if you determine from 1 week that SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL isn't what you want to see in SLC, then you're crazy. Region 1 went 3-2.....very good! Not sure what you were expecting.
Re: Anonymous @ 8:31 PM | 9:26 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Logan's Jeff Manning is a solid QB but I can assure you that he will not "pick apart" Juan Diego. JD has two of the best press/man cover corners in the state and their safeties are very disciplined. Their front 4, with a nice combination of strength and speed, put a lot of pressure on offensive lines and this game will be no different. You need to worry about your defense not getting picked apart.
True Blue Layton Fan | 9:36 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Great matchup with Skyline invading Layton's grass next week. My thoughts & questions for next week.

* Skyline will be motivated to redeem their 49-0 blitzing by Layton in last year's 2nd round action.
* With Skyline being inconsistent all year, will they bring their A game?
* Layton's D is stifling. Other than a couple big plays, they stuffed Hunter's attack.
* Jackson is back. LaVaughn Jackson had 108 yards & very much wants to run free. Williams is the power back as usual.
ALTAFAN | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Well TBLF I guess I was expecting some of this fabled defense that's so predominant in all of Region 1. Ridge left their D at home and so did Viewmont. Davis did win and good on em for it but let 14 slip through. 3-2 is decent I'm not gonna take away from that. 3-1 is better though. Skyline certainly suprised me tonight (in a good way though).

RE re Alta Man at 8:11,
Yeah PG put them in half way through the third exactly! We put them in at the start of the third. We didn't have to run up the score on them as long as you we just managed to do it in half a game then put in our 2nds so what are you getting at with your remarks? I'll be happy to stay in my little bubble here. It's just other people that don't belong trying to come into it that bugs me.
HSFAN | 9:47 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Alta and Bingham spank their opponents...I called it earlier in the year, that ...Region 1 has total parity....all of Region 1 is no better than the teams that lost today! Its over....

Bring on Bingham and Alta!

I predict REPEAT!
True Blue Layton Fan | 9:58 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
ALTAFAN, I'd like to see Layton score more pts, as most fans in the crowd would. But a 24-7 win is good with me. Should've been more like 38-7 or so. I think Hunter's line outweighed Layton's on both sides of the ball by around 50 lbs!!! They fell harder though, once they figured it out at halftime. Layton has now held every team it's played, other than the Cottonwood game to 14 or fewer pts (avg 8 pts given up) with only 6.6 pts/game given up the last 5 games. This is a good time for the D to ramp it up too. Now, I expect the O to light it up, but it'll be a tough road now.

I think Layton can and will beat Skyline. Home field helps. The offense will uncharacteristically crank it up in the 1st half.
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:01 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Hey HSFAN, seriously, you sound like a broken record, and a broken-don't-make-sense record you are. You make these ludacrous statements, "all of Region 1 is no better than the teams that lost today!". Huh??!! You eat some bad Halloween candy or what?

Alta & Bingham spanked their opponents. OK, so?
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:20 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
I love to compare how each region takes on a personality of it's own. No different than the conferences in college or divisions & conferences in the NFL....how they all vary.

How the 5A regions fared, still contending:

Region 1: 3-2 Layton, Syracuse, Davis
Region 2: 3-1 Alta, Jordan, Skyline
Region 3: 1-3 Bingham
Region 4: 1-2 Pleasant Grove

I see Region 2 as leading the pack right now, playing the best ball. Alta crushed, Jordan squeaked & Skyline surprised. Layton consistent, Syracuse walloped, Davis kick-started. Bingham & Pleasant Grove dominated.

The OBVIOUS EASIER bracket until the semis is the lower bracket. Whoever survives the upper bracket will have definately earned their stripes to get there.

AGain, the comparisons of Region 1 & 2 are
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
very interesting and worth the studying.....as now you have 6 teams that on any given day can beat any given team....and yes Alta & Bingham too.
Running up what score | 10:24 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Alta was 48 to 7 against Viewmont at the half. Alta was in cruise control after the half, with nothing more to prove. That was class; Alta could have put 100 on the board if they wanted to tonight. Viewmont is a good team, Alta was hungry after letting Jordan back in the game last week. Alta is not going to back off all playoffs; we are going to bring it each week to defend the house. Way to go Coaches, way to go players and way to go fans. Davis, see you next week.
Pretty Scary Layton | 10:31 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
I can't believe that Layton almost didn't score against Hunter in the first half. If that is the best their offense can do against Hunter's defense then Layton is in big trouble. Look for Skyline to win that one.
Eagle | 10:36 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
This is going to be a fun game.
TBLF | 10:37 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
You just keep telling yourself that Region 1 teams can compete. It is probably good therapy. There is no way that they are going much further. BLNY
Kendra Richards | 10:41 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
GO BONNEVILLE!! GREAT GAME TONIGHT!
punt fest | 10:41 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
I thought the kickers were putting on a pretty cool display of what FOOTball is all about. Layton had a 60+ yard punt, and I think the punters were actually winded that 1st half. not sure what was wrong with layton. something up with their offensive coordinator?
No. 1 Lancer Alum | 10:45 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
great win layton! good teams find a way to win no matter how slow to start the offense is in the first half. Hunter played 2...almost 3 good quarters. No doubt we got our hands full with skyline next week, up on our field. we will no doubt need more than home field advantage. skyline has been the class team (and team to beat)of Utah high school football since 1967. Go Lancers!
to Pretty Scary Layton | 10:47 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
So, when Alta scored only 21 on Hunter, I'm sure those questions were posed then too.

to Baloney @ 10:37 PM. True Blue was right in saying Region 1 can compete. They did. They were 3-2. Only region 2 did better with 3-1. how can you say there's 'no way' region 1 will go any further. you know something we all don't???
to: to Pretty Scary Layton | 10:59 p.m. Oct. 31, 2008
Yes I do know something that you don't. And Alta has the same problem. It's a little something called Bingham. Like I said Region 1 is pretty much done.
