This is sad, what a waste of money! Gone are the days of true service to the state and community, i guess money and not ideals are what get one elected these days. Say goodbye to democracy, and hello to greedocracy!
No matter how much | 4:16 p.m. Oct. 29, 2008
No matter how much money he raises, I still can't vote for him, even holding my nose.

What? A Republican incumbent in Utah raising exorbitant amounts of money?

Unheard of!

I have never before voted straight ticket but this year I have and for sure not for the self serving corrupt incumbents. Utahns should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such a circus to continue. Doing laundry is necessary for clothing so should it be for politicians - time to do the laundry Utah

I don't see anyone complaining about Obama raising a lot of money here.

Democrats in Utah don't complain because Republicans raise a lot of money. They complain because they don't raise a lot of money.

When Mit becomes president he can appoint Shurtleff for Attorney General, what a treat that will be.

I have already proudly voted for Libertarian candidate for Attorney General Andrew McCullough.

What a pathetic waste of money on a true politician.

Well, thanks for even mentioning me in this article, and the fact that I have raised "just" around $15,000. I'm actually quite excited, and have been able to advertise strongly. But, the "mainstream media" still marginalize those of us who are not in one of the "major parties." And no big contributions from family or corporations.

If you are one of the very high number of undecideds, look at me as a real alternative for a change in government. With your help, we will actually make a difference.

Am I that hard to understand? | 7:44 p.m. Oct. 30, 2008
What do candidates not get about me? I support vouchers, but I try to understand (and still like) people who don't. I favor people being able to do legal businesses, though I have personally never been a multi-level marketer. I generally don't support gay rights activistism, labor unions, Planned Parenthood, the "other" paper, and liberal education officials when any of the above appear to me to be rather pushy (though I love educators, especially the one to whom I am married.) I consider the issues, I have always voted and I don't talk politics at church. I'll listen and think about it, but I am probably not likely to hear something that will drastically change my opinions I have developed over the years. I see things change as people with different ideas move in - they are entitled to their way of thinking, also. But don't try to change me and don't be surprised when I am who I am.

Shurtleff patterned my dislike for him when he made vouchers an in-my-face issue. He stated clearly that the referendum was a waste of time because the vouchers were a done deal and that it did not matter what we, the people, thought. He said that he would see to it that vouchers would be implemented and that the State Board of Education could just eat it. He is part of the old, fat, sweaty, bunch of arrogant, bullying repug suits who consider Utahns too stupid to make a decision on their own. It is time to get all their smug faces off the hill.

I wonder if any of those campaign contributions came from Dan Fischer or any of those types that have an agenda that Shurtleff has proven himself perfectly willing to participate in .....would be interesting to know.

As a Republican, and a state delegate at that, I knew I wasn't going to vote for Shurtleff when he got messed up in the State Treasurer primary between Mark Walker and Richard Ellis. All I have to say is good luck Jean Welch Hill. You've got my vote.

Ohhh! Real hard hitting journalism! Seriously, you get paid to recycle this garbage?

Just another voter for Andrew McCullough, Libertarian for Attorney General. Andrew is a good candidate who gets little publicity, despite his hard work. The publicity goes to the nutcases like "SUPERDELL" Schanze. What a shame.
