News analysis: Utah isn't on map for presidential candidates

It's mind numbing how willing Utah is to follow the leader with no concern
of where he is leading. Have any of you ever read the national platform of
either party? Neither represents your beliefs in anyway. Both are Socialists.
There is a party that does represent your beliefs - the Constitution Party. I
dare you to actually do a little research on McCain or Obama. Chuck Baldwin IS a
candidate and he has visited Utah. In fact he spend the 4th of July in Logan.
Chuck Baldwin does represent the personal beliefs on every Republican and
Democrat I have talked to.

I think I recall the identical article 4 years ago. The names of the candidates
have changed, but that's it. Even so, I will be stunned if McCain gets 60%
of the Utah vote. If Utahans can't see 8 years of misrule in front of their
faces, then they can expect nothing else.

Utah is Utah. Whether you are a mormon or not, Republican or not, everyone knows
that Utah is just the dumping ground for the rest of the country. Think about
it. Why is it that we get other states garbage sent here? And why is it they
want to send all the nuclear waste here? Wake up Utah, until you stand up for
yourself on these issues then you will be always looked upon as a waste of time
no matter what the issue.

Count your blessings! In Ohio every other TV commercial is from either McCain
or Obama (mostly the latter). We get daily recorded telephone calls from the
candidates or their supporters. It's especially agrevating since I have
already voted absentee.

Obama has NO EXPERIENCE nor ethical standards....but his is polished and black...his associations should be scary enough....
Biden has lots of experience and no ability to control his OUT-BURSTS...
McCain has lots of EXPERIENCE but no credibility with either the media or the two parties....nice older man who at least has character and love of country...
Palin has more experience than Obama, but more scruitany than any of the above......tough being a woman and conservative.....with liberal press.
....and this is the best our two-party system can come up with.....????? No wonder there is so much "fear in the markets" as we have lost faith in our fellowman, neighbors, media politicians, and God. Not a good combination.

I've lived in California and Washington, both Blue States. My votes for
Republican candidates don't matter just as my liberal brother in
Utah's votes for Democrats don't really count either.
Until the electoral college is abolished, that's the way it's going to be.
I do have to respond to the earlier poster who criticized Utah votes for tending to vote "all one party." No different than the Democratic voters I'm surrounded by here in the Blue States. They claim to be open-minded, but they vote "straight D" every single election. Now you can't tell me that one party has the better candidate EVERY time!

I think the appropriate map for presidential candidates from Utah would be one
that directs Utahns to Crawford, Texas.

Please forgive me. I am an uneducated, idiotic Mormon redneck (who graduated
from college and lived outside the country for two years.) Why did I vote for
Bush? Because Gore and Kerry were the alternative. Why would I vote for
McCain? Obama is a socialist. I don't LIKE Bush or McCain. It is sad in
a country of 300 million that these are our choices. But don't call me
mindless because I don't want America to become like Europe.

The Wall Street bosses of the Republican party have played conservatives for
years. Republicans running the whole show from 2000-2007 and no change on
abortion, no change on gay marriage, no change on prayer in schools....The only
change the Republicans managed was to start an endless war, and to hand over
trillions of dollars to their buddies in Big Oil and Wall Street.

Compared to Alaska, Utah is the...oh should we say the Barack Obama of respect.
JFK did a little campaigning in Alaska 39 years ago and he's not coming

The last two Democratic Presidents were Governors, and they were supposed to be
qualified to come up from the State House to the White House.......but when a
Republican Vice Presidential candidate is a Governor, she isn't qualified?

Fannie and Freddie were social welfare for the Democrats and they reaped huge benefits from it, but it's the Republican's fault they failed?
How did the Republicans start a war that began with Arab terrorists flying planes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and the whole Congress authorized the response?
Not having presidential candidates stumping in your state is a problem? You want all that circus, go to a state that has them. Easy enough.
Some folks have problems with the convictions of others, and chafe at the bit when those convictions don't change at evey whim of opposition?

I don't know why Obama would visit Utah - he's got no chance there.
Thank goodness there are still places like Utah where people haven't been
sucked into the mindlessness of the left wing. Where exactly is liberalism
working? Surely not in Europe. Not in Canada - the voters there just made a
major shift to the right. The USSR was a dismal failure.
Why are people voting Democrat at all? Because they actually believe when the government says "let us help you" that they're telling the truth. Listen, the government has never given anything without taking 10 times in return.

problem isn't living in Utah, it's that you're still in a cave
soaking up that Bush/Cheney stuff from 5 years back. They took office looking
for a way to attack Iraq, then found one after 9/11. And now you can't see
any reason why Palin, less than two years into governing a state of under 1
million people, flogging that old time GOP gospel (badly) isn't qualified
to lead the Free World? I think you have some catching up to do.

BYU and U of U don't get any respect either. They won't be invited to
the BCS (big cash system) championship. And Utah politics won't be given
any credence either.

think it is a waste of time here in Utah! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???? It most

I'd like to ask why it appears that that Utah has not been
polled--certainly not by Rasmussen, anyway, nor by anyone else, it seems---since
September 11th. Check it out at www.realclearpolitics.com and see for yourself.
That seems rather peculiar, given that in virtually all other states, with the exception of several other "red" states, including Arkansas, the polling has been ongoing and timely, even in states where the poll spread is large enough to suggest a clear victory for Obama or for McCain on election day.
Is there some presumption that Utah's voters stopped thinking about the issues and candidates back in September and that their minds are closed or otherwise impervious to new input?
