Sad, Sad, SAD!!! | 10:10 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
No one gets it!!! I commented last week that BYU, Utah, TCU, BSU, any of the non-BcS schools can go undefeated and still not be in the top 5 before the bowl games are played and it isn't because of talent. It is all about money!!!! Do you think any of those BcS school want the chance of all that money going to a non-BcS conference.

IF BYU possibly went undefeated (longshot) and played a Florida team in the sugar bowl they would lose.

Jake Locker at Washington showed how BYU defends against a QB that can run the ball.

Oh yeah, he can actually pass too...

Early October and only ten true NC contenders left.

#1 Texas (Big12)
#2 Alabama (SEC)
#3 Penn St (Big10)
#5 Texas Tech (Big12)
#8 BYU (MWC)
#10 Oklahoma St (Big12)
#13 Utah (MWC)
#16 Boise St (WAC)
#25 Ball St (MAC)
#26 Tulsa (C-USA)
Sad, Sad, SAD !!! (continued) | 10:20 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
...and for those that will say that Hawaii, BSU, and Utah have played in BcS bowls, which I agree they have, my argument is that they will never, ever, play for the national championship because of the money issue. While Hawaii did not belong, and Utah and BSU were questionable, there will come a team that deserves it and will not get the chance because of the monopoly. Also, if you think that the non-BcS schools should be happy playing in any BcS bowl and that they all pay a lot, obviously, you have not seen the difference in pay betweent the NCG and the bowls these non-BcS teams are invited to play in.
Re: screw the polls | 10:26 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
You think Utah or BYU would lose by 10 points or less on a neutral field against Texas?
No Way!!
Oklahoma definitely deserves to have a better ranking than Utah or BYU.
Again... | 10:28 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
I am not a BYU fan, but remember how the entire nation thought Miami (that would be the Florida team for the guy who actually watches the games) in their glory years would destroy BYU and what happened?

Making a statement that so and so would destroy so and so sounds like two grade schoolers and makes you look like a fool. The problem with the game today is EVERYONE knows that outcome before the games been played and then looks like a fool afterwards.
BYU #1 | 10:34 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
Have you guys not seen Max Hall and Austin Collie? They are unstoppable!!! They would shred Texas or Alabama into pieces! And then when you add Harvey Unga... Nobody can touch us. USC and Florida are jokes! they already both lost to sucky teams. If BYU doesn't get in the national championship game it will be a travesty...

Yeah, it's true that BYU or Utah (or Tulsa or Boise, etc.) will never play in the championship game. That has nothing whatsoever to do with whether they're good enough to deserve a shot, however. The BCS exists to keep the Utahs and BYUs of the world out of the title picture, and does a pretty good job of it.

Speaking of which, I really expected to see Tulsa in the top 25. Any team that's undefeated at this point in the season should AT LEAST get top-25 consideration. Oh, well. They are in the "others receiving votes list," at least. That's college football for you.

BYU is my favorite team and the MWC my favorite conf. I will route for anyone in the MWC if it isn't BYU. I think that this idea that anyone conf is better or worse then another is hogwash. I think a lot has to do with the mental capacity of it's players. If you believe in your team and you stick to your game plan and don't get overwhelmed with the other teams past history any team may win. That's why you play the game. And if it is truly investigated I would venture to guess that when ever a team from a non-BCS conf. gets to play for the National Tile then they would pay the refs to make sure whatever team it was would not win and would look silly even being on the same field. It happens we all know it does. I just like watching to game. Go BYU go MWC.

With out a play-off system the only logical teams to go to the BCS bowl games, and the National Championship are BCS conference teams. They are the teams that are actually tested, I'm a huge BYU fan, but who have they played? They have not proven themselves. I believe they could compete with almost any top tier school, but they havent. So why not send a school with one loss when they play great teams ever week, instead of an undefeated team who plays teams like New Mexico?

Is anyone going to tell me that if Oklahoma goes undefeated from here they dont deserve to be in the NC game? Just because they lost to Texas, in a heated rivalry. Any BYU or Utah fan should know anything can happen in a rivalry game.
Win baby Win | 12:56 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
Just keep winning! That is all the Utes and Cougs can control! If one of them wins out, they will have the chance to show how good they really are. If they both lose, they don't deserve a chance to play for respect. Can you imagine the buildup if both teams are undefeated? They would both be in the top 10, probabally both in the top 8! National exposure for the mtn west! You are stupid if you don't want both of them to keep on winning! GO UTES and COUGS!
Strength of Schedule | 3:07 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
I am laughing at the BYU fans on here that talk trash about michigan. Are they very good? No they stink, but the fact is that to this point, Utah has the 72nd hardest schedule (hardly impressive), and BYU has the 121st harders schedule (one of the weakest in D1). Each team played a 1aa school, each team plays all MWC teams. BYU's "tough" road game was at UW, and Utah's at Mich. Since UW hasnt won a game this year, advantage Utah. BYU's "tough" home game was UCLA, Utah's was Ore St, advantage Utah again, big advantage. So please find something esle to talk trash about, besides strength of schedule. Surely the most delusional blue kool aid drinker cannot argue that point!
Texas Tech? | 7:37 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
How is Texas Tech still ahead of BYU and Utah? They played two FCS (I-AA) schools, Eastern Washington and UMasss, and they barely beat a bad Nebraska team at home.
Fully Invested | 7:55 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
Strength of Schedule, Byu fans are well aware of the strength of schedule of BYU. It sucks. What we get tired of is Utah fans contiually bringing it up as if to validate their own team. Bottom line is that by the end of the year both will have about the same strength of schedule. What's even more important is that both teams have a chance to prove themselves on Nov. 22. So maybe the insecure Ute fans need to dispense with the SOS talk. It really means nothing when talking about which team is better.
Re BYU#1 | 9:01 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
Watch COLLEGE FOOTBALL not just BYU FOOTBALL. Max Hall and Austin Collie are mediocre to good in a little tiny pond. The SEC and Big XII have DB's and Corners running 4.247 40's. Let Hall and Collie and Pitta and Unga go up against heavy teams week in and week out and see how their performance is. They struggled against New Mexico for cripes sake. Don't get me wrong I would love to see Utah or BYU or TCU or CSU in a national championship but it isn't logical with the weak teams they play. Slowly maybe the MWC and WAc can get some respect but it ain't happening for a decade at least.
Computers | 9:20 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
Time to update the unofficial BCS standings again. Here's where Utah, BYU, and Boise St. rank, respectively, in the 5 computer polls:

Sagarin: Utah 4; BYU 35; BSU 7
Anderson-H: Utah 6; BYU 14; BSU 4
Billingsley: Utah 11; BYU 9; BSU 15
Colley: Utah 4; BYU 19; BSU 7
Massey: Utah 3; BYU 26; BSU 9

Utah's average computer rank is 5.6; BYU 20.6; BSU 8.4

That average combined with the two human polls puts Utah at 10.9, BYU at 12.3, and BSU at 13.1

If BYU beats TCU (a big if in my opinion) their numbers probably go up quite a bit next week.
BLOODsBLUE | 11:23 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
BYU is no. 1. Utah is not. Heh heh...
THe worst game | 11:44 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008
That win vs. new mexico was the boringest game I have ever seen.
RE: BYU #1 | 12:37 p.m. Oct. 13, 2008
Come out of the closet you Ute troll. Most people can see right through you.
utefan | 2:56 p.m. Oct. 13, 2008
BYU wins by a hair against div.II when the Div II opponents play their worst and BYU plays their best and BYU can't beat ranked teams because they smell pretty bad.
Ute Fan | 3:04 p.m. Oct. 13, 2008
I wish the best to Utah and BYU, because the better they can do the better it is for the conference. The ranking system is very skewed and unfair, but I think anyone who has watched Utah and BYU games this year is either crazy or lying to themselves if they really think that these teams are BCS bowl quality teams. They've found ways to win, many times to my surprise (and many times despite playing poorly), but anyone who thinks that either this year's Utah or BYU team could hang with Florida, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, or Penn State is either crazy, deluded, or just lying to themselves.
