Dr. Carr's work is akin to making an argument that Middle Earth is actually under New York City.

You leave an interesting comment. No doubt you have evidence and sound reasons for spurning the learned gentleman's conclusions?

Perhaps you will be sufficiently kind as to share them with us.

Middle Earth is NOT under NYC. What you imagine is Middle Earth is nothing but the Subway.

Consider his words and the internal evidence in the text of the Book of Mormon. That way your response will be informed and not what could be taken for nothing more substantial than a prejudiced rant.

Um...theories. I don't know where this Perry guy stands, but I love the guys who try to make the narrow neck of land (a day and half's journey for a nephite from the East sea to the West, 36 miles at one spot) mean something other than the Isthmus of Panama. Or the guys who draw maps of the Western Hemisphere that aren't even geographically correct, saying the continent doesn't look like it did then because "the face of the land changed," in spite of the fact that the Eastern and Western Hemispheres still fit together just like a jigsaw puzzle. Such intellectuals make the intellectually honest laugh. Speculation is fun, but it is just that, speculation. I think we do better to keep it simple: Isthmus of Panama is the narrow neck of land, the Magdalena river is Sidon (once illuded to by church leaders). These are two major landmarks spoken of in the Book of Mormon that can still be seen today. It's silly to say such major landmarks that were described so well can't even be found now. Hey, just look at the map. (okay you intellectuals, come after me).

Verily, verily, to the narrow neck of land being the Isthmus of Panama, and the river Sidon being the mighty Magdalena river.

This is what The Church of Jesus Christ (WHQ: Monongahela, Pennsylvania) has always believed.
