Alpine officials advising area students following reports of suspicious activities

I've read them before for my neighborhood online. You actually have to read each one of them to see what they did. I googled to find the state registry for sex offenders.
Being "on the look out" is always a good thing to do as parents and to teach our children. This practice should be applied universally. One must be vigilant but cautious. We must all be cautious not to let our minds focus on the description given to avoid tunnel vision and hyper-sensitivity in our vigilance.
Already there has been over-reaction at my children's school. A "suspicious" vehicle matching the one given in these cases was parked near their school and it was reported by a "vigilant" parent. The school administration and the authorities were notified. The "suspect" was surprised by the authorities when they arrived. Unfortunately, the "suspect" was simply a PARENT waiting for their children after school but had parked down the road due to the construction at the school.
As parents we must be vigilant to protect our children. But we must be cautious in our reactions and response to these cases. The simplest way to deter a pedophile is with an adult. If you notice a "strange" vehicle, drive by it again, make eye contact with the driver and take extra note of the vehicle description and license plate. Let them know they've been seen.
