BYU L 21-28
California W 52-24
Iowa W 48-21
Florida State W 31-22
Kansas W 34-0
Notre Dame L 20-29
Texas Tech W 45-10
Pittsburgh W 45-0
Boston College W 42-12
Syracuse W 33-7
San Diego St. W 30-28
(Cotton Bowl) Texas W 46-3
Anyone who guesses a final score over NM of 54-7 is dreaming....last year we one by 7
This is going to be tough....
Cougs by 17 if they play their hearts out.
If not NM by 10.
"Jerry Rice timed in 4.59 and was considered to have marginal speed for a starting NFL wide receiver by virtually everyone in the NFL. There were three or four teams -- including the Jets and the Cowboys along with the 49ers -- who rated him very highly. Other than that, I'm not sure anybody did, simply because of a 4.59 time.
...the problem with the 40 is the game of football requires functional speed, not pure track speed. So functional speed is related to playing the game and responses to another moving object. Jerry Rice's functional speed is probably the very best in the history of football. But if you timed him in the 40, he would be over 4.5
Each year we hear about 4.1s, 4.2s, 4.3s and yet often these men are out of football in a year or two.
The key thing to remember is that functionality is the most important evaluation of a player's ability to perform. No matter how fast he runs, how high he jumps or how well he scores on a test, his value can only be related to how functional he is on the field."
I love all this defining of speed on here. At the end of the day it is simply much easier to make a team with speed than to be a marginal guy and make a team. If both guys can catch, guess which one makes the team? Yep, the fast guy.
Go BYU!!!!
>>I wonder why the D-News refused to publish my post about Collie needing to live more righteously. I mean he was the one that said the reason the beat the Utes is because of his righteous living...they didnt seem to have any problem printing that. GO Utes!!!<<
And G W Bush believed that God wanted him to be president. The point is...?
The moral to my story is; Insane asylums are full of people who believe they are Napoleon or God talks to them.
Nobody is comparing Collie with Jerry Rice except to show that 4.4 speed isn't the only thing required to be a successful NFL receiver.
They're so blinded by their hatred that they're not even willing to accept the opinion of someone like Bill Walsh on the skills and qualities he looks for in an NFL player.
What a sad world they must live in to be blinded by such hatred.
Sandwiched between the "year where they played BYU" Miami had UNDEFEATED National Championships in 1989, and 1991.
Yeah you're right. BYU beat a "weak" team.
The problem is that he makes so many plays. You start to expect him to make every play. He is a gifted reciever.
It's too bad the BYU schedule is so weak. I would love to see collie burn some big time SEC or BIG 12 db's.
And for you youngsters out there - Virgil Carter played 10 years in the NFL. Was voted offensive MVP of the Bears one season and was the first NFL QB to ever run the West Coast Offense under Walsh as a Bengal's QB. Carter, McMahon and Young probably logged the most playing time in the NFL with Nielson, Wilson and Detmer logging a few good years on the field as well. BYU is more famous as a QB factory for the great COLLEGE QBs they produce. Players like Sark, Bosco and even Walsh dominated in college but never stuck in the pros. I think Hall will fit into the great college but no pro category.
"If coach would've put me in 4th quarter, we'd have won state...no doubt in my mind."
>>When, if, Collie makes it into the NFL and makes his first Pro Bowl, then we can start the comparisons. <<
We can't compare Terrell Owens or Moss to Rice. So, until TO, RM, & AC make it to the NFL Hall of Fame this comparison is ridiculous @ best.
Considering the player and not YOU, brother Keith, wouldn't it be sad if Collie stays at BYU another year and sustains a career ending injury. No NFL career, no big paycheck, no fame and glory outside Lavelle Edwards stadium. And he will have only YOU to thank for it.
A little maturity, please. The world is not here just to please you, has your mother never explained that to you???
Go Cougs!
I think you need some balance in your own life. Are you my father-in-law?
Player Pos-Yr-Rnd Team
Phil Odle WR-1968-5 Detroit Lions
Lloyd Jones WR-1981-8 New York Jets
Dan Plater WR-1982-4 Denver Broncos
Neil Balholm WR-1983-4 Denver Gold (USFL)
Scott Collie WR-1983 Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL)
Kirk Pendleton WR-1984-9 Jacksonville Bulls (USFL)
Glen Kozlowski WR-1986-11 Chicago Bears
Mark Bellini WR-1987-7 Indianapolis Colts
Ben Cahoon WR-1998-1 Montreal Alouettes (CFL)
Todd Watkins WR-2006-7 Arizona Cardinals
I know Glen, father of Tyler had a long solid career with the Bears. The list above doesn't even list Golden Richards as being drafted . . .
SB-YEAR PLAYER POS TEAM W/L SCORE
X-1976-Golden Richards-KR-Dallas-L 21-17
XII-1978-Golden Richards-WR-Dallas-W 27-10
You are kidding, right?
I wouldn't say that at all if a 10-2 record and Cotton Bowl win with an end of year #3 ranking in the AP and Coaches poll is tanking I'm sure most teams would take it.
You also have to remember that 1990 was sandwiched between national championships for Miami in 1989 and 1991 (#1 in AP - they shared the title with Washington who was #1 in coaches poll).
Get your facts straight!
Virgil Carter, Gary Sheide, Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, Ty Detmer, John Walsh, Brandon Doman, John Beck (total 11)
Than these:
Scott Mitchell, Alex Smith (total 2)
And only remembering Alex Smith because he is demonstrating to be one of the more recent #1 picks to prove to be a bust. Funny I don't even here Utah fans boasting to know who he is anymore.
Period.
