Clay County, MO...How close is that to Independance?

From what I have heard others say, and mapquest, my guess is about 30 miles. This is not the temple that has been prophisied about, but I do not doubt that it is a stepping stone and a way to prepare people in that area.

Wow, a temple in Rome! That is really impressive and definitely another great sign of the times! Who would've thought that could even be logistically possible even 10 years ago?!

No need to start a panic just keep the faith and stand where you are and continue to build the stakes of Zion where you are. This is indeed great news let us not forget to attend the Temples of the Lord where we are to show the Lord we appreciate all that he has given to us.

The site is actually closer to Liberty than Independence (just accross the interstate). It is a nice suburb of the city and close to the jail site. It will be great to have a temple to attend when visiting the area.

It will be great to only have to drive an hour or less to attend the temple instead of 3 1/2 or 4 hours to Omaha, Nauvoo or St. Louis like we have been!! We will be able to get so much more family work done and not have to spend so much time and money traveling!! We are very excited!!!

I served in Villa Belgrano in the Cordoba area with Elder Scott as president and Elder Christofferson. I wonder if they had anything to do with the decision to build a temple there . . . . Either way, it is a great thing. When I was there, there wasn't even a stake in the whole country! Now a temple . . .I'm making my reservations for the dedication now.

We wanted that temple in Johnson County, Kansas, not in "Misery." Johnson County is so much prettier and nicer than the the other side. This is a mistake! Somebody please tell our church leaders before they waste our tithing money. It should be in Olathe, Kansas! Look for yourselves

If I have to choose between where a prophet thinks the temple should go and where you think it should go, I'll go with the prophet. While temples are typically in nice communities, it's up to the Lord where they need to be built.

Does anyone know of the location of the Phoenix Arizona temple? I have heard of a couple locations, but nothing definitive.

I am also a Johnson County resident in the Olathe Stake or should I say transplant from what everyone calls here "the west" and I must say that I am just simply thrilled to even have a temple that will be nearby. I think it will be a wonderful blessing to have one as close as we will have one regardless of location. However, being not from the KC area, I do agree that I would rather live in Kansas but again, I am thrilled that there will be one nearby.

Shoal Creek development is a beautiful location, just a nice as any place in Johnson County! It will be so close to liberty and that great "jail temple". I can only imagine if Joseph Smith ever thought that a temple would be on the hill above liberty.

Oh my goodness. Be happy you have a temple and quite bickering about location. Everything I read on these posts are things that embarrass me about the Church. Those on this post and others should be a shame. You make a mockery of your fellow members.

Moved out to Philly a year ago. The church is growing very quick out here! We have recent converts in our ward who are ecstatic about this temple because the trip to DC is difficult without a vehicle. Now we'll be able to ride a bus or the subway. What an absolute blessing to the saints of the City of Brotherly Love! I just wonder what size of temple will be built!!!

To: NO!!!!!!!!! I have lived in Jo.Co. more than 30 years and am a diehard Jayhawk fan but I find it very sad that someone would whine and moan about a temple being on the other side of a man made line. From the farthest point in JoCo this temple will be less than 50 miles away and for the bulk of the population will be about 30 miles. We are talking about a Temple of the Lord here not a race track or similar development...good heavens!!

I live in the area (not disclosing which state in order to avoid confrontation, but I will say I live next to the MO/KS border and it is absolutely beautiful - rolling green hills, so come and visit). I am absolutely thrilled we are getting a temple so close. This is an answer to our prayers.

In fatti, ero cosi' emozionato (gridando) quando Presidente Monson ha annunciato che avremmo un tempio in Missouri che no ho sentito che ci sarebbe uno in Italia anche! Era dopo la sessione che l'ho sentito, e poi ho gridato con felicita di nuovo! Che bello spirito!

Even though we are temporary residents of the philly area, and will be gone probably before the Temple is done, we are still very excited about the thought of it. Since we moved here 3 years ago, that's all the members have talked about...getting a temple in PA. I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone from here about it, but I can imagine the emotions are pretty high about it! Spring Garden and Broad...WOW! didn't see that happening, but it will be great!

I cannot wait for another temple to be built in Montana. Billings is 500 miles from us as we live in the northwest of Montana. So our temple trips are to Canada (3hrs one way) or Spokane (3hrs one way).

Anon....are you the same person that keeps things so stirred up on the other comment boards?? You seem tame on this one. Just curious.

When I lived in Provo, UT, there were times that I attended almost every week.

Living in Bloomington, IN, only once every 3-4 months, if that.

In Southern California we struggled to attend once a month, but the Redlands temple helped greatly for the Inland Empire residents. Not to mention the Mojave Desert folk...

In Northern Virginia, DC was a 45 minute drive.

But I reiterate, like I mentioned in another post, Chile needs temples.

Hundreds of thousands of members live too far away from the Santiago Temple, based on prices and incomes...

God bless the work and our activity, in ordinances and tithes and offerings...

Viva la fe.

I hope Wyoming and Montana could get some more temples, too...As elsewhere.

Keep up the good work, Saints everywhere. We need more investigators and new members, for sure.

I live near Adam-Ondi-Ahmann and I am so thrilled to have a temple near by.(trust me this is near by) We are definitely growing in this area, booming in fact. Only a few short years ago we only had a ward where now is almost a stake! Just in the points north area! Pack your bags and help us build Zion! Or stay where you are and build Zion, but this is a great place to do it.(Missouri rocks) Now we have a temple near the center place, what an awesome thing! I'm so looking forward to this temple!

Traffic can be terrible (and dangerous!) along I-70 between KC and St. Louis, especially the last 70 miles before St. Louis. What is supposed to be a 3 hour drive can easily turn into 5 hours. I'm so grateful that maybe in as soon as four years we will only have to travel one hour to reach a temple. What a blessing, especially during winter time!

Pocatello Idaho (Idaho's 2nd largest city outside the Boise area) is 50% LDS and I would think has more members than virtually all of the Utah temples outside of the Wasatch Front. After seeing tiny Rexburg, Id and Twin Falls, Id (1/2 as many members) get temples recently, I wonder when they will finally get one? I know they have had land for one there for over 30 years, but it never gets announced. I am excited for the new temples, but each conference I keep expecting to hear Pocatello, to no avail???

Regarding Pocatello, it's not the geographic location or number of members that's the problem, it's the name of the town. Pocatello? Chubbuck? If all of you could get together and come up with better names for your towns, I'm sure that you would get your temple.

Either way, it must be great having your choice of 3 temples within 90 minutes in all directions (Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Logan).

I almost bought a house two years ago that would have been right next to that temple, inside that development in Shoal Creek. I would have never guessed that they would put a temple there. They were having a hard time getting people to buy house inside that development. I guess people did not like the 20's style (I think that was the era they were shooting for) as much as my wife and I did

I met my wife in the old Liberty Stake Center on Clayview and often visited the Liberty Jail and other historic and spiritual locations in the area. I remember working on the church farm at Far West. We don't live in the area any longer (but we are still in Missouri), but we are thrilled with the progress. Just think, 36 years ago (this Friday) when my wife became my eternal companion, we traveled to our nearest temple -- in Salt Lake City. The stone just keeps on rolling. My best wishes go to all in the old Liberty Stake which I know has been divided into other stakes in the intervening years. The temple in Rome also has significance to our family, since we spent three years in Italy in the military and traveled to Rome for conferences. We were there when the first church owned chapel in the country was being built in Pisa, so the church's growth in Italy is just wonderful to behold.

I used to live in the Kansas/Missouri area and am a frequent visitor to the greater Kansas City area. The Liberty jail is such an inspiring place to visit and now with the Temple going to be so close we will be able to visit both. HOORAY

The DC temple is a 20 minute drive for us, so we've been spoiled. I grew up near Philly. I was there when they created the Pittman stake, around 1977, which covered Burlington County and everything south in Jersey. Our chapel was a 45 minute drive away. Now there's a stake in what used to be two or three wards, and there's a chapel 5 minutes from my old house.

The work is moving forward...

Kansas or Missouri??? I hold to the truth that when the Prophet speaks the debate is over. Now those sweet members whoï¿½ leave the Independence area at 3;00 a.m., on Saturday, travel to St. Louis for the first session, then work all morning before leaving to return home will have a temple close by.

The Church will never disclose dollar figures about it's temples. The fact is that they are all very expensive and built with the finest materials available. It's wonder to know that no expense is spared in the house of God. Congradulations to everyone who lives close to these temples. I'm saving to witness the dedication of the Kiev, Ukraine temple in 2010.

I am happy for the people who live close to these new temple sites. As a mormon I was thrilled when a new temple was announced nearby. However, what is the church going to do with the current temples that are practically empty most week days? At some point these buildings need to be more effectively utilized or they will be a big financial drain.

and one of the greatest facts (especially in these riotous, credit-crazy economic times) is that there is no credit involved. If the Church can't pay upfront, it will not be built.

Let us all live by this same principle! Then there wouldn't be any 700 billion dollar bailouts!

We love the temple and are so grateful to have one announced nearby. Travel for us has gone from 15 minutes (Salt Lake) to 4 hours (St.Louis), and now a mere 30 minutes to Shoal Creek. This will enable us to attend more frequently--weekly, rather than monthly. WE are grateful for this answer to prayer and look forward when ALL saints, worldwide, will have the blessing of a temple near them. The proliferation of temples is coming! After all, we have a prophet of the Lord who receives His will. How grateful we should all be!

Pocatello and Chubbuck are beautiful Native American names that we who live here are VERY proud of. We have the distinction of being the onlys of them both in the world (to my knowledge). Having a temple here would be lovely, but probably not feasible as we can be to IF in 45 minutes. That being said, we are very happy for the Saints in the announced new temple areas. Whenever we can get to the Temples in under an hour, it is a blessing.

We can be in our temple in about 3 1/2 hours only if we travel the toll roads and pay $17.00 in tolls for the round trip. With todays gasoline prices that makes the trip a little pricey. If I had a temple within an hour of me, I would be so excited. When I lived in Denver the closest was in Utah. When I lived in Alaska, it was Seattle or Hawaii. When I lived in Greece, it was in Switzerland. We try to travel to Nauvoo once a year, so this Kansas City Temple will be another one we can visit on the same trip. I am thrilled to live in a time when they are scattering the earth.

Sorry but Pocatello is Idaho's FOURTH largest town (after Boise, Idaho Falls and Coeur d'Alene). With the conversion of Ricks College to BYU Idaho (a poor choice of names), Rexburg will undoubtedly eventually become a sprawl like Provo and Idaho Falls become a suburb of that town.

I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In order to get to the Seattle Temple it takes 5 hours to get there, from Nanaimo, one way [if the border crossing isn't busy]. We manage to get 1 session or perhaps 2 before we have to leave. We get up at 4:00 A.M. and get home at 11:00 P.M. Now that we have a Temple being built in Vancouver it will be 2 1/2 hours away. Only downside - ferry cost $75.00 one way. Nevertheless it will be great to have a Temple so close. Maybe one day we'll have a small on the Island.

It is wonderful about the temples. We live about 90 minutes from a temple, Seattle, WA. We usually take the ferry ($30 roundtrip) but are greatful it is there since it used to be Logan, UT or Cardston, Alberta, Canada. The Lord decides where His temples will go and when. We just have to make sure that we are willing and prepared to go when they become available. Congratulations to all of you who have a new temple coming to your area!
