first of clown, hs fballfan, 2 years ago Skyview won a closs game, but you seem to forget that Logan got DESTROYED by Highland and beat Skyview. Football is week to week, just cuz one team beats one team doesn't mean they'll beat another! Bring on any of those teams you mentioned! Highland would go toe to toe with any of them, and the funny thing is, Highland only has 1,600 students... So how embarrassing for Skyview for getting handled by by a team that only has one good player. Highland could have won that game by 30! That hook and latteral play was bogus too cuz the dude's knee was down. Go watch it on localnews8.com, son! Bottom line is that over the last 3 years, Highland is 7-3 vs. Utah foes...

Timpiew could care less about 5A | 12:27 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
complain all you want Alta fans but to anyone that matters: instate polls, national top 20 polls, timpview is the class of Utah, they were even in sports illustrated, when I look for an article on Alta I am said to say I found nothing. So complain and whine all you want and keep telling yourselves that your better, if it helps you sleep at night, thats great. As for me, the Dnews pollsters and national pollsters and anyone else in your so called timpview loving "bubble", we'll just keep winning games, championships, national respect etc. and sleep well knowing that timpview will do the samething this week and the next, and the next and the next...
Max Preps Rankings | 5:45 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
National Ranking Rating Strength
38. Cottonwood 52.7 21.3
43. Timpview 52.4 21.6
131. Alta 46.8 28.7
181. Layton 44.8 29.5

Wow, look at the strength ratings of the two 5A teams! The only reason Alta and Layton are ranked below Cottonwood and Timpview, is because they both have lost 1 game. Tougher schedules!

Playoffs | 6:13 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
If the UHSAA would pull their heads out and do a playoff like the other surrounding states, and if those playoffs started today, it would look like this:
5A

11. Viewmont
6. Syracuse

14. Kearns
3. Bingham

10. Jordan
7. Northridge

15. American Fork
2. Layton

12. Spanish Fork
5. Lone Peak

13. Riverton
4. Pleasant grove

9. Davis
8. Skyline

16. West Jordan
1. Alta

4A

11. Mountain View
6. Highland

14. Orem
3. Pine View

10. Bonneville
7. East

15. Timpanogas
2. Timpview

12. Springville
5. Mountain Crest

13. West
4. Sky View

9. Dixie
8. Bountiful

16. Tooele
1. Cottonwood

These are all based on a power ranking system as found in Max Preps. Arizona, California, and Texas all use this type of ranking system. In Utah, they allot so many teams per region. That means that many teams with losing records get into the state tournament, while other teams with better records stay home. With a system like this, you will have the opportunity to see a #1 and a #2 matchup every year! That is what we all want to see! Everyone needs to start petitioning the UHSAA to get this changed.

dixie vs pineview | 7:58 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
dixie may not stop the pineview rushing attack, the question is can pineview stop the dixie passing and rushing game. it should be a shootout. pv 32 dixie 28
True Blue Layton Fan | 8:22 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Good to see some give Layton respect. Others still think they'll lose against every good team. Layton has beaten Davis & Northridge, which many thought would beat Layton. Now Syracuse is coming to town, only to be beaten 26-9.

RE: Playoffs | 9:18 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
How is Timpview going to play Timpanogas if they are 5A? Just question!

to True Blue Layton Fan
I find it funny you have to keep posting that Layton is going to win Friday. Are you trying to convince or reassure yourself? None of the Titan fans have to try and talk up their team and convince everyone how good they are. They have earned their respect on the football field when everyone has doubted them. It's going to be a good game Friday but I'm afraid you may be wrong about the score and who will come out on top.
DHS DARTS | 10:41 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
As much as I despise Layton. Syracuse will lose on Friday. Yeah you have the same records but your schedule overall is weak. But wait Syracuse beat Northridge? Yeah but they also lost to Viewmont. But it would be cool if Syracuse beat Layton and Davis beat Nridge. No one would have expected those final standings.
From out of state | 10:42 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Recently moved here and trying to play catch up on HS football here in Utah. Couple of things jumped out at me.

1. Does Timpview really have 6 players with D1 offers. That is impressive if true. Can someone confirm?

2. Does Bingham really play Trininty? I am from Allen, TX and they are excellent. Not trying to be a Texas homer, but Bingham is in trouble. I have never seen Bingham play and I am not trying to be a Texas homer, but they are going to get embarrassed.

3. Are all the playoff games (mainly interested in seeing 4A and 5A games) played at the U of Us stadium? How can I see a schedule?

FRiDAY NiGHT RiDER | 10:54 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Althought I do think it will be a good game, Layton has proved themselves already. They beat Davis, and came thru, when everyone was thinking that Davis could upset the Lancers. Then, they came thru again, knocking off a highly regarded Northridge squad. I am not knocking Syracuse at all, because I think they are a good team and have far exceeded expectations, but I think Layton will pull off another win, when so many still doubt them. Layton 27 Syracuse 17.
Re: ALTA Fan/Old Roach | 11:24 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
And the media doesn't adore Alta? I remember hearing plenty about Shaq these past few years. They have had the same love from the media as Bingham. So don't play the village idiot. Remember Bingham were up on your "mighty" hawks 17-3, and only lost by 8, Bingham's Offense just hadn't come together yet and now they are solid, Soffe is one of the best QB's in the state, it was your QB that was the only reason Alta was in that game. Remember the 4 straight running plays at the goal line that Bingham stuffed. You are just "scared" to meet them in the playoffs, and who is Bingham going to lose to before the playoffs? I would like to know. Alta has one loss don't they? They will have two by the end of the season. @ Jordan.
hsfootballfan | 11:28 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
8poky8,

What is a closs game?? Is that an Idaho term for boring?? I think it's great that you enjoy and follow football as much as you do because most women don't seem to enjoy it that much. Also, you might be 7-3 against Utah teams but you are only 1-3 all time against Sky View. Yes, you lost in 1975 also. So one out of four isn't too bad for a CLOSS game. Right missy!
To from out of state | 11:30 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I can't answer your question about Trinity playing Bingham. You can go to the uhsaa and pull down a schedule. As for Timpview having 6 D1 players, it is true, but you need to know something. Year after year, many of these D1 players from TV never play a game at the D1 level, some however are real stand outs. For the most part, there coach and a couple of parents really know how to get their kids to the next level, unfortunately, many are over rated and turn out to be flops. What is interesting is most of our kids who attend Jr. College because their coaches didn't do a good job at promoting their kids have gone on to be major stand outs at the D1 level and enter the NFL. So yes many kids from TV and Cottonwood get the schalarships but turn out to be disapointments.
to From out of state | 11:31 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
yeah timpview really does have 6 D1 offers
yeah Bingham really does play trinity next year i believe, dont be too overly confident in trinity though, bingham has done well against out of state opponenets, i mean jordan won Massilon, ohio and jordan isn't even doing that well, and would probably get rocked by alta and did get rocked by bingham as well as northridge and layton.
yeah all games are played at the U of U stadium starting in the semi's, if you go to uhsaa website it will show the pairings but i dont think there is a schedule out yet. probably when the playoffs start they will make one. Cottonwood and Timpview is a must see this year for 4a finals (presuming they both make it there) and alta/layton or bingham for 5a

To Out Of State-

Welcome, HS football here gets a little heated, but I am sure you know what that is like coming from Texas. I don't know the answers to your first two questions, however, the playoffs for 4A and 5A have 16 teams each. The first two rounds are played at the school with the highest seed in the tournament. The semi finals and state championship are played at Rice Eccles at the U of U. However, the state championship and semi's have been known to be played at Weber State and Utah State before.
Out of state: answers | 12:23 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
1. about Timpview, they currently have 5 players w/ D1 scholarhips (and 3 of them are w/in boundaries if that was the next question):

- Xavier Suafilo: LSU, USC, Miami, BYU, Stanford
- Tui Crichton: BYU commit (injured)
- Craig Bills: BYU commit
- Bronson Kaufusi (2010 class): BYU commit
- Chris Badger (2010 class): BYU, Utah

Travis Van Leuween: SUU, Weber St offer. (I've heard he might get a D1 offer soon) - so there is 5 and possibly one. There are also 4-5 who will play D-1AA or lower (Mitchell, Whittingham, Mackenzie). Plus there are at least 1-2 underclassman playing now who will end up with D1 offers.. So 5 for sure, maybe 6.

2. Bingham does play Trinity. Will be interesting to see how they do. For the most part, the top Utah teams do hang and beat many of the top out of state teams, but this will nonetheless be a huge challenge for Bingham.

3. I'm sure you'll find all of the information about game times for the playoffs on this site. The schedule hasn't been made yet. Could always google UHSSA football. Semi's and Finals are at Rice Eccles
Timpview | 12:49 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
09 class
Craig Bills-4 star safety committed to byu
Xavier Sua'filo- has offers from every powerhouse d1 school in the nation
tui crighton(dont know how to spell)- committed to byu.
travis van leuwen(again cant spell haha) no offers now but ranked as best WR in utah and by end of season he will have at least one d1 offer for sure
2010 class
chris badger-offers from byu and utah
bronson kafusi-committed to byu, could end up being a 5 star recruit.

both these players will be some of the best recruits in the country next year.

timpview is just stacked with even more underclassmen set up to get d1 offers in the next couple of years
8poky8 | 12:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
7-3, tool... Deal with your loss! Highland will beat them again next year with most of the team being underclassmen. Nice comebacks too! 7-3!
hsfootballfan | 2:09 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
8poky8,

Next year SV will bury you guys and "MAYBE" you can win one more game in the next four but it's very doubtful. 1-3 that has to sting and nothing you can say will change that fact! Good luck with the rest of your season, the Hill kid is a stud and is a lot of fun to watch.
out of state guy | 2:40 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Thanks for the info. I enjoy reading the trash talk. Kind of funny. Texas is the same way. We have 2 5A divisions, so both claim to be State Champs, so that gets heated at times. I will have to check out Bingham so I can know what Trinity is in for. lol. I will try to catch Cottonwood v. Timpview if they play. The Tempview fans seem pretty confident. I love HS football, but was a little bummed out moving here....I kept hearing it was weak and no one cares. A lot of the TX schools have 20K fans every Friday night. I went to Skyline v. East, they both looked pretty good, fans were into it. I had fun.

It's fun to see you jump on board defending the Rams. I saw you Rams vs Grant game, I saw the Logan game as well as the SV game. Your QB is a great 'athlete', he is more of a RB/TE with an above average arm, than your regular passing, pro-style qb. Highland was 'outplayed' by Grant of California as well as by Logan. You did however outplay SV at the dome. Athletes come and go, teams improve and slip. There will always be players that are missed in a game, your 2 players missing, SV's 2 players missing, Logan's two players missing...welcome to the world of contact sports. Relish your 7-3, as it too will come and go. It's just great to have Highland play the Utah teams each year.

I'm glad I can humor you. Why would I be trying to convince or reassure myself that Layton would win? So, I see you speak for all Syracuse fans. Now that's funny. I don't see you making any predictions anywhere....or maybe you have. I think it's fun and creates discussion. If you don't like discussion, try just reading the articles and not the comments. Apparently the comments are a little too 'mature' for you. Sorry to disappoint.

in regards to how timpviews players perform in college:

how about HARVEY UNGA, Matt Reynolds (starter) Dallas Reynolds (starter-all conference), Luke Ashworth (playing signifcant minutes) Michael Alisa (playing as true freshman), Stephen Pea (starter Oregon State), Ethyn Maneumala (starter freshman)...

yeah.. thats what i thought. just to name a few.
TV players in college. | 3:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Timpview has 5 starters (25% of team) of the 8th ranked team in the country! I would say they are proving their worth in college!!!!
Dixie | 4:00 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
You are way wrong about Dixie's Corners! Yeah, the La Costa team (Which is currently ranked one of the top teams in all of California) beat up on the corners. But both of Dixie's corners are under 5'8" and were going up against two outstanding 6"3" Wideouts! The Corners are great in coverage, just lack in height. Also Dixie has two of the best Defensive Ends I have ever seen in high school football. The two Logans along with Line Backers Katoa and Eames will control Ence. It will be a really good game. But my prediction: Dixie 35 Pine View 21. Go Flyers!
Region What??? | 4:33 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Region strength doesn't matter at all in High School Football. That is what makes it better than college. They have a playoff where all the best teams duke it out on the field.

To Out of State Fan:

I SOOOO wish that I could witness a HS football game in Texas... that was amazing. My dad lived their for a while and said that for the state championship, they packed Texas Stadium pretty well! HS Football here may not be the best in the country, but their are a lot of people that follow it and there are plenty of die hard fans for their respective teams, which makes it fun. Their are also some pretty good rivalries too.
To To Answers | 5:03 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
whenever any football fan states Division 1 it is implied that they are speaking about Division 1a or the FBS not 1aa or FCC. sorry, wise guy, you look dumb!

Hey ya go Dixie, put 8 men in the box and dare PV to throw against you,if you can stop or at lest slow down Ence and Co. you'll have a good chance. You will definitely put up some points on their defense.
True Blue Layton Fan | 6:11 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
You can catch national high school football games on TV.

People mention all these kids that move on to college, which is sweet. I love underdogs and that's why I love Layton so much (course, living here is creating my bias too). Layton produces very few Div 1 (FBS, FCC, acronyms....hate them, because the BCS system is so screwed up) players. Sent 1 to Weber and a few more to Snow, Dixie. But that's pretty much it. Yet they played in the big dance last year.

Reminds me of the small, blue collar high school (Layton), going against the larger, richer schools (Alta, Bingham, etc etc). Shows how much Layton's coach, Batchelor, has been in a positive role. He continues to do better. This year, Layton has overachieved so far, having only 2 returners on D, and losing 80% of their O & D lines.....yet they continue to compete.

GO LAYTON!

Have you seen alta play??? They are a very good team!!! I havent seen TV play cause I perfer not to watch 4A games but with the teams they have been playing I bet they do LOOK like they could beat Alta, but in the real world it would never happen...

And as far as Binghams "MELT DOWN" did you see that game??? That was not a melt down that is alta coming back in the last 7 minutes of the game and making a couple amazing plays for the win not a "MELT DOWN"

The one thing that is apparently clear in region 1?
...PARITY!!! the teams share the same level of talent......for Viewmont to beat Northridge who beat Layton for 3 qtrs only to lose a close one.....is CLEAR Evidence! when the playoffs start look for region 1 to have an early exit.....

Until Timpview gets beat, to me, they are the best team in the state. They have athletes, and coaching, year in and year out. 5A keeps saying Timpview needs to play the powers in 5A to prove they're the best, I got news for 5A, everyone, and anyone, in 5A and 4A, for that matter, would've been smoked by Timpview of '07 and '06. But, I wouldn't go calling out the high school powers of Texas or California, Trinity out of Dallas will smoke Bingham, no doubt about it, if they played, and they would smoke Timpview as well, Texas high school football is on another level, and we have a ways to go, before we get there, but we're improving.
Anyhow, news flash, to every team that will make the playoffs, this season, come November everyone is 0-0!

Look, I'm not getting on here trying to start stuff, so I'll back track a bit. Highland loves going against better comp. so for OOC they play UT teams. Skyview, Logan, and the like are pretty evenly matched with the Rams, so for people to say they are a week team is gay. I promise Highland will be strong again next year, especially on D. To say Hill is not an amazing QB, well, his WRs aren't exactly stellar this year. He is a STUD passer who is throwing for 70%, and can flat out hurt you with his feet. I like the Rams playing the Logan teams, and wish that Northridge wouldn't keep dodging the Rams. At least Davis played them last year. I'd like to see Mt. Crest get into the fray and play home-and-homes with the Rams.
