I'd try to explain how wrong you are, but as Mark Twain once said:
"Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
Which makes me wonder. Wouldn't you think the Utes would be a bit upset about the lack of respect given by the voters. Instead they are, in the words of Ute fans, pulling out lucky wins over the likes of Michigan(who is bad this year), OSU, and Air Force.
Just admit that you're upset about the rankings, and let it go until Oct. 19, or better yet until Nov. 23, when the computer rankings really mean something.
BTW the SOS thing is nothing but crap for crap. All that matters is W and L at the end of the season.
Hey Crowton Lover...if utah wins games that give the mwc credibility, why have you not won more mwc championships beyond your some urban legend years? Answer is: The utes don't play anyone. Period. TCU is the team that has carried the mwc since entering the league with their win over Oklahoma.
BTW don't forget that when utah got a lucky invite to arizona in 2004, their BSC opponents record was 23-24 combined. That's inpressive!
2008: BYU 41 Utah 9
1. UNLV
2. Seton Hall (Basketball)
3. Utah Red Rocks
4. Dallas Cowboys
5. BYU
I'm going to bed.....
Sorry that you don't have logical support for your team not being over-rated in human polls so you have to instead use negative words like insecure, jealous, etc to call me (and other Utah fans).
It's true that it's not BYU's fault that UCLA and UW are so bad this year --though may be that's why BYU is still unbeaten. (No explanation for NIA on the schedule though).
I am not upset about rankings --just want to prove a point about SOS and computer rankings.
And it's true that I feel Utah was lucky to escape Michigan with a win --but then most teams that left the Big House with a win would feel lucky too.
And Utah is lucky that the offense came to live in time to score 11-straight points in just a few minutes to beat OSU --a team that 7 days before whipped #1 ranked USC.

I don't believe for one minute that you are trying to soften the blow for Cougar fans. BTW we're okay. I know that SOS matters; on Oct. 19 and Nov. 23. Until we play Utah, I could care les about SOS. I actually worry more about winning the rest of our games. What difference does it make if we lose? and unlike you guys, I don't care if BYU falls behind Utah in the polls. I put about as much stock in the polls as you guys do. What's more important is how my team plays from week to week. Last week was not good for either team. Utah should have won by two touchdowns. So what point are you trying to prove about computer rankings that we don't get? I think you are still bothered; just a little bit. It's ok to admit it. You'll feel better.
Both of these teams have shown plenty of problems and weaknesses that could come back to haunt them against even a mediocre team. Either one could easily have 1 or 2 loses now. Don't expect to the MWC to cower in fear at the mighty cougs/utes, they will be very excited to knock us off. Remember, neither team has played anyone that even has hope of going to a bowl or of having descent seasons. Wait until we play somebody who actually still has some fight in them...
Obviously you don't know much about college football history.
The AP poll may not be included in the BCS rankings, but it does COUNT FOR A LOT.
The AP has been around since 1936. When teams like Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, etc., talk about winning past national championships, they're usually refering to being selected as national champions in the AP poll.
And, despite the BCS cartel, the AP STILL selects a National Champion.
Remember in 2005 when Texas and USC played for the National Championship and Pete Carroll was talking about a three-peat (and there was talk of copyright infringement because another coach coined the phrase). Three-peat was used because USC was playing for their 3rd National Championship in a row.
Guess what, they didn't win the BCS title in 2003! That was LSU! But, the Trojans did win the AP National Championship in 2003.
To say that they AP poll "doesn't count for anything" because of the invention of the BCS shows a complete lack of understanding and appreciation of college football history.
BTW, I was calling YOU insecure and jealous, etc., not Utah fans, since you seem to need to post every other comment with all these ridiculous facts as to why Utah is more legitimate than BYU in the polls. Somehow you think the computer polls are more accurate since they happen to favor the Utes in certain ways. The human polls, since BYU is ranked higher at the moment, must be wrong because they don't favor your team. Is that correct?
Next....
Of course national publications are going to say BYU is overrated. Are they from a BCS conference? No. So what else are they going to say? If Utah eventually gets in the top ten, they will probably say the same thing about them.
By using the word legitimate, I was saying that many Ute fans think that BYU's record/ranking isn't valid because of one reason or another.
Obviously, the vast majority of the media believes BYU isn't overrated or they wouldn't keep voting for them to be where they are in the polls. I'm just saying that no matter what BYU does, many Ute fans will always say they are overrated, whether it is justified or not.
