It used to be for shoes | 1:43 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
I remember when not too long ago, kids would attack other kids for their fancy athletic shoes. Now it's cell phones. It is ridiculous!! And it is really a scary situation. I know it sounds simplistic to blame such behavior on media, such as video games, but I do. I have watched some of the games my 20 year old son plays, and they are violent, and lack all morality--killing people is nothing, burning down a house is nothing, it earns points!! If our young people have a steady diet of such violence it becomes second nature to them, and they think nothing of doing what this young man did. He didn't even seem to consider the consequences, or the fact that cell phones can be tracked easily. I'm glad my kids are raised, but I worry about my grandkids, for sure!

I do worry about my son, but he's married and on his own, so about all I can do is voice my concerns about the choices of video games and movies he makes. The grandchildren I am most concerned about are his 2 children, ages 19 months and 3 months. We have them at our house a lot. It's peaceful, and the TV and movie viewing are much better suited to the developing minds of children. Most of the time the TV isn't even on, and the 19-month-old occupies himself very well with the toys we have here for him. He's grandpa's boy and grandpa spends as much time with him as he can, just having fun.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
