Could Mitt fit in a McCain Cabinet?

Q: What does this country need? | 5:29 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
A: The Massachusetts Gov./pre-"flip-flop" Mitt Romney. That was one cool guy; as cool as Obama in fact -- and a bit more knowledgeable and competent about our nation's economy. But Mitt made policy reversals that allowed McCain to successfully brand him a flip-flop. Like ma & pa used to say: "Remember who you are."
Question???? | 5:39 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Why is it that not one, repeat not one presidential candidate or their VP picks have not spent one second in Utah? What a joke. 2 years of campaigning across the nation and not one second in Utah. What does that tell all of you radicals?
Executive Experience | 6:17 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Palin - should run for office in Saudia Arabia where her experience as a po-dunk mayor and governor of Alaska (oil dependent state) will come into play. The US is more diverse and needs more!

I'm not proud of America either. | 6:40 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
George W. Bush is in charge, remember? McCain should have picked Mitt as his VP. Then that fool could have lost twice when its all said and done.
GoodGuyGary | 6:47 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Look what happens to Dow Jones today. People will start crying about not electing Romney when they all lose their jobs. Let those who bad mouth Romney, including Huckaberry, suffer. In two years, when Dow Jones down to 4000 points with unemployment of 27.8%, people will regret they made a bad choice of not selecting ROmney.

Bush has trashed economy...only direction is better!
magnus | 7:02 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
@ ohsno

In case you hadn't noticed, everybody is losing thier jobs anyways. Taxes arene't putting businesses under, the bad economy is putting buisnesses under.

It's time for conservatives (myself included) to let that talking point go. The fact of the matter is that the national debt is far more dangerous to the economy and american buisnesses than a small tax increase ever could be. Rebublicans have lost all of the credibility they once enjoyed when it comes to fiscal responsibiblity and rightfully so, they let the American people down... they let me down.

The world needs leadership from the US.
Leadership must come from people who are able to deliver, and has the capacity to grasp where to. McCain has still the possibility to change his VP. In that case the best choise would be Mitt
Romney under the present circumstances.

I am voting third party,I'm from the state of Illinois and I would suggest if anyone has any extra time go online and read the Chicago Tribune. Mainly stories of Todd Stroger and Tony Rezko, which Obama has endoresed and has special ties too.

People in Illinois, especially the seniors are at the point where thy are not going to vote at all because they are so disgusted. My disgust of this election is forcing me to vote the third party system. I feel at this time it is are only way out, not waiting for another 4 years.
ARNOLD | 7:21 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
I don`t think Obama will pick Mitt Romney for a cabinet position. Why would he?
Distance | 7:23 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Mitt should distance himself as far away from this whole lot as possible. He will have a real shot at the presidency as soon as the Obama/Biden Whitehouse fails miserably by over-regulating, big government, entitlement, social programs governing.

Mitt in 2012.

Keep Up | 7:24 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Obama has been in the state. During the primaries, but he was here.
Madge | 7:31 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
To CL
You are asking how much damage can Obama do in four years after 8 years of George W. Bush? Probably the worst President ever in the history of the United States of America. What planet are you from?
I TOLD YOU SO! | 7:38 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
There is a reason why JOHN McCAIN has been given short shrift by the REPUBLICAN PARTY.

MELTDOWN McCAIN has truly delivered the economic goods. I can see why McCAIN wants to turn the page on OUR ECONOMIC WOES.

MITT should stand aside while this "train" goes over the cliff.
One sided | 7:46 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Head Shaker, the Deseret News doesn't never tell you how many jobs Mitt help send over seas. Like they slip over George Romney and American Motors. See a Gremlin lately?
rkgg | 7:50 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Okay so Bush made some mistakes, when will everyone place the blame where it belongs, in the Congress. We are in such a hullabaloo over the presidential campaign, that the long term congressional people are running amuk. They are arrogant and have ignored the voice of the people. The one thing that matters about the election is having a presidency that supports the illegal, irresponsible and downright ignorant congress, that's dangerous. A vote for the wrong person will bring more socialism as all of them will be in line with their philosophies. Socialism is not the cure for capitalism, failure and re building of strong businesses is, w/o the manipulation of the government. Wake up, call your reps and tell them what you think, don't just complain and point fingers, that's the whole problem, we have complacently let someone else make very poor decisions and have kept quiet. Get your houses in order, follow the counsel we have been given, or just like those before us we will suffer until we are humble enough to do what is right. At least think about the generations to come and legacy we will have set in motion for them.

To Madge:

Obama can probably do TWICE as much damage in four years as Bush did in 8.
But then again, I seem to recall that all-time low of Wild Bill Clinton and the White House intern fiasco. Not to mention taking millions of acres away from Utahns to create a monument for his Sierra Club buddies!
Is Bush or Wild Bill Clinton the worst President in history?
Your Choice!
Obama | 8:14 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Will lead this country astray. Just as the democratic congress did in 2006...Promised change and look at what we got, gas over $4 per gallon, mortgage and loans out of control, higher unemployment...just to name a few. Do the research people and see for your self that the democrats do more harm then good when they are in power. Heaven help this nation if B. Hussein Obama becomes the president. We will not be a blessed nation as we once knew it. Change...whatever!

If Romney ever wants to have an actual shot at being president, he needs to disassociate with the McCain campaign as much as possible.

No to Comrades Obama and McCain.
Bountiful Dem ( yes there is one | 8:37 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Ohsno get off the ledge! Obama is smart and listens to talented people. You sound hysterical. Most liberal dems know Obama is a centerist in the Bill Clinton mold. Hillary is the true left wing candidate.

John McCain hasn't figured out what he is yet. But we know . . . errrrraaaaatic!

Obama all the way. Leave the disreputable, failed policies of the Republican party behind.

Two reasons not. | 9:23 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
I would love to see Romney in a cabinet position, but it is starting to look like Obama has this election, unless McCain comes out on a rampage tomorrow. But also Romney stated that he is not wanting a cabinet position, I read that in a DN article, so unless he changed, we won't be seeing him.
Jeff | 9:38 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
I used to think that Jimmy Carter was the worst President and then Clinton came along and wasn't sure anymore. But what is abundantly clear now is that George W. is the worst ever and in fact should be hung for treason. He has doen more damage than Osama Bin laden could ever do to the U.S.

Former Republican
TO CL | 9:46 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
The worst President in American history would have to be between George H.W. Bush, Richard Nixon and G.W Bush.
Take your pick, they all were medicore on their best day.

Mitt Romney, will not be in McCain's cabnit. McCain hates Romney.
Mitt Romney will never be elected President of the US, no matter what.
not from Utah | 10:19 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
I'm amazed by the comments of the naysayers. I know plenty of intelligent people on the East Coast that love Mitt and wish he was in this race still. He can work across party lines, is a problem solver, knows business turnaround and what businesses need. He's also a decent guy with integrity. No one who knows him says otherwise.
Mitt needs a job | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
In 4 years, if Mitt has nothing new on his resume, it will be pathetic. He needs to spend the next three years building something new or demonstrating leadership, not just pining away for the presidency.

At least the two current candidates have jobs as senators, even though they have been ignoring that role lately.
Dangling Chad | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Uh, I'm so happy Obama will win. Gives me hope in America. It's hilarious to hear people talk about how much "damage" he'll do to America. Hilarious. You have no reason to doubt him. Seriously. Some people are just plain old scared conservatives who complain about the government no matter WHO is in power. Regards.
maybe HP secretary | 10:32 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
the only secretary position for Mitt will be High Priest seretary in his local LDS ward. McCain is toast and so is the GOP for the next 8 years thanks to GW Bush and the mess they have made of the economy.
Cp | 10:39 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
No way. McCain is to dishonest and you know what so is Obama. So Mitt would do well to stay out of their cabinets. In fact they both play so dirty I'm not going to cast my vote for either. They could careless about this country or it's people. They are running for their own glory and more popularity and to see who can attack who quicker!
People would do wise to vote for another party rather then Demo or Repub.
pramod kumar | 10:50 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
i think if mitt romney was the presidential candidate, he would have easily become the president due to economy being the main issue now. both mccain and obama have no clue , what to do with the economy. romney has seen all the ups and downs of economy and was pretty succesful in his business. americans have missed a golden chance by not nominating him and would probably regret for rest of their life. hope they would repent and bring back romney in 2012.
lenn | 10:52 p.m. Oct. 6, 2008
Mitt is being held back for bigger and better things. the time is not right yet for him. the country is not ripe enough yet in Inequity. give it a few more years, especially with the liberals at the Helm. I respect John McCain for his service He gave to our Country. He suffered more than a normal man should have to at the hands of a Satanic country, and crazed captors! I wish He could be our next leader, but I'am afraid He waited to long. I know that He is a survivor, and may pull this out of the fire, but it doesn't look good presently,so i'll hope for the best and what happens happens!

Dave | 3:09 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Mike Huckabee DID NOT raise questions about Mitt Romney's faith!! He asked a so-called expert on the Mormon religion to clarify something he once heard. It was an honest question looking for an answer. It was NOT Huckabee saying... "Well, I think we have to wonder about Mitt because he might believe Jesus and Satan are brothers." Huckabee's question actually had NOTHING to do with Mitt Romney. During the campaign, Romney rankled Huckabee because Huckabee thought Romney made false accusations about him in his ads. Their friction came from that--not from any religious question. Now, even when the media blew up Huckabee's quote, Huckabee took it upon himself to personally apologize to Romney for any appearance of malice, and Huckabee confirmed that he thinks Romney's religion is not a part of the debate and not something that should ever disqualify him from being a candidate. So, even if Deseret News does not like Mike Huckabee, it is VERY misleading and WRONG to say that Huckabee "raised questions about Romney's Mormon faith." I call on Deseret News to run a correction on this statement.
Another Lifelong Republican | 8:35 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Mitt Romney is the only person who as a candidate for the Presidency has the intelligence, experience in all fields, stature, speaking ability, wonderful control of words and expressions and knows when to keep his mouth shut. He is a MAN! He would control the Oval Office the same way he controlled the Olympic Mess. He exudes confidence and it would be a shame if some day he is not elected President of our wonderful country. The shame is it's not going to be this year. America needs him.
Save what? | 11:03 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
This country is in the hands of Satan. There is no hope.
Mork | 11:09 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
People are just jealous of Mitt and his great wit.
Stewart | 11:54 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Give it up! First of all McCain being nearly the worst of the primary candidates is not likely to win the general election. With Obama as the democratic candidate this election was for the republicans to lose and they did by choosing John McCain.

On the Romney issue, even if McCain did win he wouldn't choose Romney for anything, because he doesn't like him. Romney's best chance would be to run again in 2012, after the failed Obama presidency.
jester | 2:29 p.m. Oct. 7, 2008
you are right, mcCain is also jealous of Mitt Romney.
Reed | 3:07 p.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Give it up Romney fans. The closest Mitt could ever get to the Presidency (of the U.S.) is to take a cabinet position. He will never be President because he can't run a campaign. When he campaigns, the electorate sees him for what he is, a pompous, arrogant man. He is the Hillary Clinton of the Republican Party.
glenda | 10:54 p.m. Oct. 7, 2008
Obama has already cost tens of thousands their homes and jobs. Google ACORN corruption.
