Let's remember that even if the PI wasn't called...the Utes still win on the field goal at the end. Even if Utah did not complete the 2 point conversion, they hold the Beavers to 3 and out and kick a field goal just the same. You may say that the Beavers would have ran the clock out in that scenario, but Utah doesn't let them because they have two timeouts at that point. Remember how the Utes let 15 seconds run off the clock that they didn't even need at the end. GREAT WIN UTES!
Riley | 2:19 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Riley shouldn't cry about the call, but rather kick himself. Going for 2pt conversion is always situational and should never be done in a close game until the 4th quarter...it cost his team. Utes O looked awful at times, but the D was overall stellar...and Kruger is the man! Can't believe they pulled it out, especially in regulation. What a great atmosphere!

a good offensive team beats us last night.

Anonymous,
Your so wrong. If that PI wasn't called and the 2 point conversion failed the Beavers probably would have ran out the clock. They would have only had to get ten yards and a first down to win not 40-50 yards to get into field goal range. The Utes benefited from a bogus call they were outplayed the whole game and were just lucky, Hey I'm starting to sound like a Ute fan, Yikes.
re;grumpolman | 8:28 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
You are so wrong...that's all they went for was ten yards...and didn't get it. The Utes were not outplayed all game! Are you kidding me? The only reason OSU was in the game was because of BJ's turnovers...if it were not for those, the game wouldn't have been even close. It is true that the Beavers had some great drives...but Utah had more great drives and stopped the Beavers when it counted. The offense stalled a few times, that is true too. But to say they were outplayed the game is flat out wrong...and to say they were lucky is just jealous. Fortunate...true....lucky...no, they made it happen.
For crying out loud! | 10:10 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Perhaps BJ's turnovers were a result of playing a team that was better than Utah. Its funny how you never give the other team credit for forcing the turnovers. its always on the QB is that it? OSU got jobbed with that terrible PI call. The previous comment saying OSU's mindset would have been completely different following that call that allowed a second chance attempt is correct. Instead of moving the ball 40-50 yards, you only need to get one first down. It was not like OSU wasn't capable of that given over 400 yards of total offense. However, I will criticize Riley for failing to take the easy points when he had a chance. You always take the points on the road. Its a cardinal rule.

If only Utah could play Pac-10 teams all year, you would be an 8-4, or possibly 7-5 team. But alas, you get a free pass of playing in the always strong MWC and so with wins, at home, over unranked opponents, you storm the field. One aspect of showing you deserve to be in BCS consideration is to act like it. Storming the field after surviving a narrow loss to an unranked foe at home does not show you guys deserve to be there. You have to walk the walk and celebratory acts like that show you do not belong. Did Penn State storm the field after being Coastal Carolina? Did Georgia storm the field after beating Central Michigan? Nope.

Espn which has been anything but kind to the Mtn West gave this game 3.5 minutes during its telecast and characterized the PI as a "Mauling". They went on to point out Utah has more BCS wins than any other non BCS team.
Critisizing this win from a BYU perspective makes you look dumb.

What was with all the fans filing out with 230 left to play and Utah had 2 timeouts!? And what was with all the booing. Brian Johnson got booed again and again from the majority of the crowd and I heard fans wanting the backup put in.. Even All American kicker Louie Sakota was booed for punting the ball in the endzone. The classic thing was that Johnson ends up driving the Utes for a game tying td and driving to put them in field goal range and then Sakota winning it, along with nailing 2 other field goals.

Utah fans need to chill out. You dont boo your STUDENT-Athletes, especially the ones who have one and who you will rely on to win games for you..

I did sit around a few fans that were actually real fans of Utah and supported them throughout the game regardless of a good or bad play or coaching call. They are the real fans! The rest are a joke!

Nice game Utes!
ewe'ts | 12:32 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
ewe'ts were the recipients of HOME COOKIN from the officials. The PI was bogus. They escaped with their lives. 30 yards in a quarter! What a joke.
Dan | 1:36 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
ewe'ts. There was no home cookin by officials. If you were smart enough to read you would know that all PAC-10 games are officiated by PAC-10 refs. OSU lost because their refs called the penalty not MWC refs. Pac-10 - 0 MWC - 6. Loyal Blue BYU Fan!! Go Utes until November!!
Rush the field! | 1:55 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Ute fans should feel no need to justify storming the field...an emotional comeback win against a team with the inside track to the Rose Bowl. Few thought the Utes could win that game with 2:18 left...and no one thought they'd win it in regulation. That's a quality OSU team. I don't care their record...they're now 1-2 against teams in the top 15.

I can just as easily say if byu played in the pac-10 they would have an 8-4 or 7-5 record...

And regarding storming the field...you just don't get it... it has nothing to do with beating osu... it has everything with HOW the utes beat osu....

Utah is as much of a bcs contender as byu... based on sos utah is actually more of a bcs contender then byu.... have byus wins been prettier, other than the uw win, yes, but guess what a win is a win and they all count the same.

I dare to say if both teams would have started the season ranked in the same position the utes would be higher... the only difference is where the two teams started the season.

Now don't come back with that weak, yea but we have won the last two mwcc, and our winning streak... which I know is why you began the season higher... just goes to prove why there should not be pre-season polls... all teams should start on a level playing field.. the first poll should not come out until after week 5-6 when we get a better feel for how good the teams are
Re: Riley | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I posted the Riley commented earlier about him whining about the call. I don't think he was crying over it, but rather frustrated that the flag came so late. I take it back. He's a class act...the whole OSU program is, including their fans that were there last night. Although I don't retract my comment on his coaching error. Yet, he'd probably recognize it as an error as well (going for 2pt try so early in the game).

I still can't get over the emotion of that whole game and especially finish...something that can't be understood without being there live.

Too bad I'm in Idaho where I got to sit next to the computer pulling my hair out. Awesome game! Let's avoid any blunders the next couple weeks and take this momentum to the BCS!

I arrived back at my house it Pocatello at 2:30 this morning. It was worth the pain.
re: BCS Contender - No Way | 8:11 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Consider this. The PAC 10 has been totally dominated by the MWC. Only Colorado State gave up a loss to the PAC 10 this year. Every PAC 10 team has one loss. BYU and Utah are currently undefeated, and TCU has a loss to the current #1 team. I think any one of the three has the right to talk BCS when the MWC is much more dominant than the PAC 10. I also say the MWC is more dominant than the Big 10, the Big East, and the ACC. I think they are the third strongest conference this year. So, yeah, I say that entitles the conference champion to a BCS game! I do think Utah needs to stay focused. The Utes have cleaned up their game on the penalties, so that's a step forward. The defense was pretty stellar, especially considering all the playing time they got in the 2nd half. The offense needs to work on the turnovers. I think they had an excellent first half if we subtract the TD we gave Oregon with the interception. The third quarter and most of the fourth stank for the offense. That's where we need improvement. Go UTES!
Mark in Peoria | 11:52 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
The BCS talk is waaaay too early.

Only if a MWC or WAC team goes undefeated (and it may happen again this year), is there room for that argument. And Utah still has 6 more games and BYU 7 more games.

But, hypothetically, if Utah or BYU ends up undefeated there should be no question they should be in a BCS bowl. Perhaps they could play Boise St...
