Blueute | 11:23 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Utah showed a lot of character with this come from behind win. Sakoda had a great game. The defense hung in there the second half to give the offense a chance at the end. To be 6-0 is a great achievement for Utah especially when they have yet to play a complete 60-minute game on both sides of the ball. Great win for Utah & MWC!

MSNBC bowl projections have BYU & Missouri in the Fiesta Bowl, Boise State and South Florida in the Sugar Bowl and Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl. They are assuming BYU runs the table, but if it is reversed and Utah runs the table they could be making their second trip to the Fiesta Bowl. Also with South Florida losing at home to unranked Pittsburgh tonight may throw the Sugar Bowl open as I dont believe there are any Big East teams remaining that are ranked. This will also make room for the Utes to move up in the polls as well, even with this close win.
One Embarrassed Ute | 11:23 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
mmmmm, so just double checking here...weren't we the ranked team in this ball game that was supposed to win? Honestly, we squeaked out a win and rushed the field... for a unranked team? How about we try to look like we belong playing with the big boys next time. I'm just sayin'.

I think it is great that people from Utah have two quality teams for whom they can cheer. Despite being a Cougar through and through, I was cheering hard for Utah in those last couple of minutes. Most fans are coming around to the idea of a fantastic game between two undefeated and top ten ranked football teams in Salt Lake in November. Those who are not appear to be governed more by hatred of the rivalry than genuine excitement for their own team.

Go Cougars!
Go Utes (except for one week in November)!
BYU fan | 11:28 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Great job by the Utes. They clearly have the most impressive victory of any Utah school this year, and the BYU game is going to be the best in history.
RE:bail out post supporters | 11:28 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
and other haters like jazzfaninhouston and others. You have got to be kidding me! Uncatchable ball? that is a load of bull. YOU CANNOT IMPEDE A WR FROM THE BALL LIKE THAT! Brown is 6' 3" and can jump and the ball wasnt even that high.
"dont want to hear about the 1 point win vs Wash and strength of schedule." Are you serious? Did anyone see the game last Thursday? Has anyone seen Oregon state's program the last few years? Quality school, big win vs. USC. Wait, is USC not very good now? Don't even try to compare beating OSU to beating Washington.
Oh yeah and about the late flag on the PI, if you were AT THE GAME, YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT THE OFFICIALS WERE LATE WITH EVERY SINGLE FLAG! FOR BOTH TEAMS! False starts, late. Face mask, late, everything was late. Doesnt mean it didnt happen though. A lot of heart tonight late in the game.
GO UTES!!!!!! | 11:29 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Utah fans are going to say the infamous PI call was right on. byu fans are going to say the ball was uncatchable and that the Utes got "bailed out". Why don't we see what an unbiased person had to say about the call:

Ted Miller who writes for espn.com had this to say about the call "after an entirely reasonable pass inference penalty gave them a second chance on a 2-point conversion, they tied the game at 28-28". Mr. Miller doesn't cheer for Utah or byu he just called it as he saw it.

Its kind of hypocritical for a byu fan to complain about "bail outs" because byu has had their fair share of them over the years.
Good Job Utah! | 11:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
BYU cougarclubber here, I was pumped to see that last drive BJ put together. I hope both Y and U come out of all of this undefeated with healthy teams. It could be the greatest game ever in Utah. I will be there in blue tell Ute fans the are devils children...but in the end I have alot of respect for the program.
rvalens2 | 11:31 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I love seeing BYU fans rooting for Utah. We need more of that and vice versa. Keep winning Utah and BYU.

Every time a Utah, BYU, TCU or Boise State goes undefeated and doesn't get a shot at the National Championship game, it's one more nail in the coffin for the BCS.
re: Mark | 11:32 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
And I was in the FRONT ROW at the BYU- UW game and no way the kid threw the ball 30 yards in the air after that TD. Maybe 15 feet. But try telling that to the Y fans who estimated its hang time on the slowed down version on You Tube!

Officials 1, UW 0.
Oregonian | 11:33 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I have one UofU shirt given to me by a friend in Utah. I'll wear it to work tomorrow since 20 people wore OSU shirts after they beat USC. Good job Utes!! Whit did his best to blow it but the players overcame it. While Rodgers had his moments, overall they stopped the run when needed. Something USC couldn't do.

However, storming the field after beating a 2-2 team that you were favored to beat by 10-1/2? Embarrassing!! We might as well start calling it the WUSS section.

As a BYU fan...11:02 | 11:34 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Did you happen to see Utah playing defense tonight? Lets see, Johnson throws a pick 6, Johnson fumbles on the 25 yard line and the D give up 2 drives the rest of the game. They hold down JaQuizz (who ran for 186 against the USC best d in the country) for the whole game, basically he had 1 long run.
The Defense was amazing and I guarantee you have not played any defense close to the caliber of Utahs defense. See what you do against TCU and Utah before you tout how amazing you are. If you beat them senseless like 0-4 washington, 1-3 UCLA, 2-3 Wyoming and 1-4 Utah State (credit for a win already) then pound your chest.

What fun! | 11:37 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Tonight was the first time I have been back to the stadium since I was in college many years ago. I took my young son. What a great night. What fun! I can not wait to see the next game and support this team. The Utes are doing a lot for the city and the State. Way to go Kyle! Everyone is very proud of you.
re: ute player | 11:40 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Are you really a former Ute player or just a wanna be? Your spelling and grammar are pathetic. Just so you understand, that word means very bad, not good, or just plain rotten. You make the rest of us who have attended that great university less than proud to be remotely associated with you in any way.

Regardless of the pass interference call on the two point conversion, the way the Utes held (or was it the way that Oregon State attempted to move the ball) on OSU's next possession, Utah still came back and kicked the field goal. That's what won the game, not the bad call on the two-point conversion attempt. That call just made it a three-point win instead of a one-point win.
AZ UTE Fan with Blue Blood | 11:41 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I have not read all the posts. I am sure that there are the dorks on both sides that have to argue who is best and blah blah blah blah. Like this forum is going to prove anything.

Bottom line - Congrats to the Utes. Love to see you win. Keep it up. Go MTW. Go BYU vs USU. May the best team win when Utah and BYU meet.

Grew up Red graduated Blue. Fan of both. (OK a bit more Blue than Red but not much)

Way to go Utes.

ESPN assessment/comments:

* Reid was "mauled" on the pass interference call.

* Utah is the first team in the country to become bowl eligible.
Bob in line | 11:43 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I just have to laugh at the Ute fan who mocks BYU for playing Utah State tomorrow. As though BYU is playing cream puffs to look good. Is this the same Utah State that Utah played two weeks ago? Or is it the Weber State that Utah played last week?

What ever! haha

And for those Ute fans who think Utah stunk it up in beating Oregon State. One thing that definately goes underserved in this discussion is that of momentum/confidence.

If USC had thrashed Oregon State last week I would bet my house that Oregon State would have laid an egg in Rice Eccles, and you would have beat them soundly.

Instead, Oregon State beat USC, and now somewhat think they might deserve to be champions, so they played like it.

Also throw in that maybe Utah overlooked Oregon State a little.

I think Utah has a great team, and let's face it, the PAC-10 in general has more, high-caliber athletes than does the MWC, so any win against the PAC-10 is something to be proud of.

Good game and happy for you. Don't be so hard on your team.

As for the Holy War...

GO BYU!
RE: ute player | 11:43 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Just returning the favor. BTW BSC bowl does not compare to a National Championship.
Pot calling kettle | 11:44 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
All you guys complaining about Utah rushing the field for beating a 2-2 team (one of those wins was against #1 USC), don't forget BYU got flagged for rushing the field against the now 0-5 U of W. And it took a little help from the refs to pull that one out.
call didn't matter | 11:45 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
The Utes won by 3, so the 2 point conversion that some are doubting didn't matter!
GREAT GAME????!!! | 11:45 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
That was an ugly game! the last 4 minutes were good but all in all not very well played.
To: To Mark in Peoria, 11:05 | 11:48 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Wait, the call against Locker in the BYU-UW game didn't cost UW the game because they still had a chance to tie it, but the PI call in this game wa "literally for the game"?????

Ummm.... Last time I checked, OSU still had a chance to stop Utah's two-point-conversion for the win. And they had a chance to score themselves at the end of the game for the win. And they had the chance to run the clock to force overtime. And they had the chance to stop Utah's offense to force overtime. And they had the chance to block the field goal to force overtime. So in what possible parallel universe was this call more "literally for the game" than the call at the end of the BYU-UW game? Utah finished. OSU didn't.

And I live in Oregon and shockingly the fans and sportswriters up here don't think it was that bad a call. The Oregonian newswriter just called it "very close." The ESPN Sportscenter announcer said that the Ute "got mauled" on the play. But, of course, you Zoobies know better than these paid professionals. Put your blue-tinted glasses down and go away.
Hero Of Canton | 11:49 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
What an embarrassing game, Ludwig needs to be fired NOW. We got pretty lucky tonight, there were a number of plays that OSU just blew or they would have won this one going away. Brian Johnson needs to take Louis Sakoda and the entire defense out for dinner they way they saved his bacon. He personally almost cost us the game with the two turnovers that led to an instant TD and a very very short field for another easy TD.

Glad the Utes won but they look worse and worse every week. If we played Michigan today we would get our hindends handed to us, we are sloppy, undisciplined and prone to unfathomable lapses in judgement (Brian Johnson, I'm talking to you on this one).
BYU Fan 2008 | 11:50 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I was not a believer in Utah until this game - I didn't think they deserved their #15 ranking. Ranked teams, or teams that really are "better" than most, may play an ugly game now and then, but they always figure out how to get the win in the end. I'm a BYU believer this year, but I gotta give Utah credit now. They are a good, gritty, tough team. Don't deny it guys! They are NOT polished - this year they are the big burley red-neck neighbor to the well groomed Y, and I'm a little nervous for November. The Y is going to go out on the field polished, tanned, and primped - Utah's going to go out with a three day shadow, beer breath, and will rip their shirts off ready for a scrap. This year is shaping up to be a great game. All of the sudden the Mountain West conference is dominating the PAC-10, what a year! Awesome stuff!
They did it! | 11:51 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
BYU fans- remember- you haven't played anyone yet!! You haven't played anyone with a winning record- Utah has quality wins against teams that have beat some of the best teams in the country- (Mich. beat Wisconson and the Beavs beat USC-)

I also find it funny that BYU fans give the win to the refs on the pass interference call. Hmmm you were probably the same guy that said "well...we blocked the kick and made the play against Washington...you can't blame it on the refs"

Guess what? We made the plays to win against a much better Oregon State team!

Utah has shown they can win a close a game and keep their composure- BYu is unproven this year and will be for another few weeks until they hit TCU
JB | 11:51 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
You gotta love the Zoobies who are out tonight! Utah winning helps you guys out so much since everyone else you have played can't win a game. Sign of a good team, winning when you don't play your best. Utah better figure out something on offense if its going to stay undefeated. Conservative, easy to predict play calling almost cost the Utes. It didn't even look like Utah had an offensive game plan.
Game Stolen | 11:53 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
That was OSU's game and the refs took it away. BJ made a horrible throw on the 2 point try, at least 5 feet behind the receiver...NOT CATCHABLE.....not even close. Spin it how you want Ute fans...but your team is not very consistent and BJ is a major liability. Good thing u have Louie.
Storming Field | 11:53 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Don't worry cougs we were just warming up for when we storm the field after our second BCS bowl game win this January. I guess you wouldn't know the feeling.

Congrats | 11:54 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Other conferences will start beating each other up so Utah will move up.

Just keep winning and the BYU game will be very special this year.

Congrats to the Utes on a great win.

just a fan | 11:55 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
ok why are there so many byu fans on here????? and the ute fans rushed the field because they thought their team was done for and 2 minutes later theyre set up for a game winning field goal. a very emotional win.
Fiesta Bowl Grounds Crew | 11:57 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I see that the Rice-Eccles Security (or lack of it) Squad is in postseason form!

Seriously, does security there simply lay down and let all those fools rush the field after last-second wins over teams with .500 records? I don't know what's more embarrassing -- the toothless security or the fans who act like they were soooooooo excited to beat a 2-2 team.

Yo, Rice-Eccles Security, you want us to loan you a few Tasers? They work wonders!
What a shame | 11:57 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
The game would've been in the bag if the moron OSU coaches had kicked the extra points in the first half. Never, never go for 2 in the first half, it will inevitably come back to haunt you. Just ask the Beavers. When will these high-paid college coaches learn. You always take the points, especially in the first half. Never go for two until the fourth quarter.
AK Cougar | 11:57 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
I did not get to see the game, but good win for the Utes. It is great to see the MWC own the PAC 10 in the W column this year.
Storm on! | 11:58 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
* Down 8 points with two minutes left
* Playing a BCS team known to regularly beat top teams
* Converting do-or-die third downs
* BCS-busting opportunity on the line
* Amazing touchdown drive by a battered quarter back who wouldn't quit
* Amazing last-second finish by King Louie

OF COURSE YOU STORM THE FIELD!

What would you have done cougar fans? Politely clapped your hands? Please!

AMAZING WIN UTES! IT WAS GREAT TO BE THERE! THANKS OF A WONDERFUL SHOW...THE ONLY REASON THE GAME WAS CLOSE WAS BECAUSE OF BRIAN JOHNSON'S TWO TURNOVERS IN THE UTES OWN TERRITORY...JUST LIKE THE AIR-FORCE GAMEO...BRIAN JOHNSON TURNS IT OVER TWICE IN HIS OWN TERRITORY...OTHERWISE THOSE GAMES AREN'T EVEN CLOSE! BRIAN JOHNSON NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO GET RID OF THE BALL OR AT LEAST TUCK THE BALL IN! THE UTES DEFENSE WAS AMAZING AS USUAL, SURE OREGON STATE HAD A FEW BIG PLAY, BUT THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED, OVERALL UTAH DEFENSE IS AWESOME...LET'S GET THAT OFFENSE GOING NOW.
re rushing the field | 12:03 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
in my opinion i beleive any last second play to win the game with that much emotion deserve a field rush. byu fans would have done the same thing....
from a realist | 12:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
"Utah could beat USC, cause Oregon St. beat them. and BYU could beat Tenn, cause they beat UCLA and Tenn like almost wont the national championship once and that is like so cool and........"

-typical conversation of a MWC fan.

Wait for the BCS polls and have a piece of Humble Pie. I truly hope that one of you 2 goes undefeated so that you can get snuffed by a real program with a real schedule.
On further review | 12:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I wonder if the fact that they only showed one replay of the pass interference call was because Versus realized how bad the Mountain West officiating crew was going to look.

Watching it live, there was a lot of contact. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting ... and finally decided that they were not going to throw a flag on the play. Then the flag came flying in from off the corner of the screen. No denying that this flag was WAY, WAY late.

Which doesn't make it a bad call ... but does make you wonder what was going through the ref's mind that whole time. And if I was Mike Riley, I'd be wondering if the ref was remembering who he worked for and where the game was.

All that being said, when they did finally show the ONE and only one replay ... WOW -- that was definitely a BAILOUT. You could see that the defender was trailing the receiver -- the throw was way behind (and uncatchable) but the receiver stopped, turned back and ran into the defender. The receiver created ALL the contact.

See a replay. It is obvious. Complete BAILOUT.

Go UTES!
National play fo the year | 12:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
we now have our nominee for "worst desicion in college football" for 2008. Utah fans rushing the field against an unranked team!. This would be the second year they get the award after last years onside kick when leading by 41 points. Go Utah! I bet crazy lady is going to sleep easy in her sleeping bag in Rose Park tonight. She is creepy!
I RUSHED THE FIELD | 12:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I RUSHED THE FIELD TONIGHT!!!! What an amazing final two minutes. Let me tell you, standing on that field tonight brought back lots of memories from 2004!!!!

GO UTES, Tonight YOU PROVED that you've got what it takes.

I am sure that BYU fans are truly trembling right now. It is obvious that you can NEVER count us out. Cougs, YOU DONT HAVE A CHANCE!

Finally, I am SO TIRED of having Cougies posting crap comments, UTES I am calling on all of you to post on their page after their game on Saturday. This is ridiculous.

GO UTES!
byu fans | 12:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
maybe you should focus on your teams amazingly tough schedule. PI call was right on the money. The defender never looked to the ball (faceguarding) and then contacts the receiver before the ball arrives (pass interference). A ball will only be ruled uncatchable if it's way over a receiver's head or out of reach (it was neither). The receiver obviously could've adjusted to try to catch the ball therefore pass interference was the right call, no subjectiveness required. Now UW's celebration penalty was totally subjective and more than questionable... just worry about holding up your end of the bargain and stay undefeated 'til you have to come to UTAH to play! Kyle Whit's D is for REAL!!!

Neither BYU or Utah deserves to be in the top 20 - they can't beat quality competition on the road and have squeaker wins like this vs. lower echelon teams.
