Good grief! Lu playing "Totentanz" at age 13? When you look at THAT score, there are so many notes that it's almost solid black! That's a knuckle-cruncher! Ferry playing the Tchaikovsky at 17? I give up! I'm 50 years older and have to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE just to play "Clair de Lune!" Congratulations to you young folks (and to your parents who supported you!)!

When I was a University student in Utah, I use to compete in the Salute to Youth. I wish that Deseret News would give a little more background on these young performers as I'm very interested in who they study with and how long.

I was at the concert last night. Jim Lu was incredible! Easily my favorite performance of the night. Although all of them were simply amazing.

Bravo to all the soloists and the Deseret News for their sponsorship of this concert. Last night's concert was wonderful indeed.

To CA Musician and any others: Next year will be the 50th anniversary of Salute to Youth. We are beginning to gather information on past Salute to Youth Soloists as well as auditionees or others with Salute to Youth memories to commemorate this event. Please contact me at bhawkins@usuo.org so that we may be in touch about the plans as they unfold.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
