I agree with you, "There are some fans on both sides that actually think before typing."
Judging by the pollsters, however, I am forced to admit I was wrong. BYU actually faced the more impressive opponent. How else to explain BYU jumping more places in the polls after staring down BYE, than Utah gaining after tiptoe-ing Waltzing Matilda with Weber State?
I'm impressed that Utah appears to be getting a lot of love from the inanimate computers, while those that actually watch games and know college football continue to rank the Cougars a lot higher that Utah. We should check with the engineering geeks at both schools and ask them to provide us with their slide-rule analysis. I'm sure that would favor the Utes, too.
I love it how Ute fans keep pumping up UNLV -- presumably to explain why they were tied with them at home at halftime. Congrats to UNLV for knocking off ASU. But UNLV is still dogmeat. Just because some teams' SEC-style speed defenses dive at Frank Summers' ankles doesn't mean all teams will.
Aggies may beat BYU...Ole miss beat Florida, Appalachian beat Michigan, OSU beat USC. OSU may destroy Utah. UNLV slaughtered Utah last year then stunk it up. The score at the end of the game is the only solid factor as to the win...nothing else matters.
Also...Lou Holtz gave some good props to the MWC last Saturday and specifically mentioned BYU and UTAH. How nice is that to have a legend like Holtz reffering in a positive way to BYU and UTAH as serious teams...as opposed to them being called "Bo diddly tech".
UTAH and BYU have increased the exposure to the MWC and specifically to their programs...now they have to keep on winning and get "College Game Day" at RES on Nov 22- just like 2004...it is good for both teams in so many ways.
Not a dig...so you don't need to re ref this comment. Nice to see Lou Holtz come back to his senses. I can understand how... when your own son's team is skyrocketed from nowhere to #14 after the 2nd wk, might bias the impact of a Pac 10 excessive celebration penalty and cause you to to say things in the heat of the moment with rankings on the line. So let's just say all's forgiven....at least Lou is addressing the issue....that's far more than a certain other who addressed the Washington incident is doing.
Why in the world would you expect people to see things the same way?
I didn't see Schedule Watcher's post as a bash on Utah. I saw it more as a commentary on how different people perceive the polls.
I mean, BYU is clearly the higher-ranked team in the main polls. Ute fans are bringing up all these other computer polls that have them ranked higher. Who is one to believe?
Then you have BYU jumping more places in the AP and coaches polls after a bye -- than Utah was able to move after a win over Weber State. So, which school benefited more from playing or not playing last weekend?
And you've got to see the irony of Utah fans pointing to UNLV as part of their argument for having played the tougher schedule.
Geez, if fans of the schools can't have a little fun at the others' expense during this, the season of all seasons, then I'd be a little worried.
Lighten up, dude and have some fun with it all.
Take it easy Ute fan, see you soon.
