More fuel for thought.

Interesting how Batchelor intro'd the direct snap to Williams, used several times, and seemed to be effective. What I didn't think was effective, maybe due to Williams injury, was sending him outside. Now Jackson can burn the speed outside and make the quick turn, but didn't seem effective for Karl.

Also, is it me, or does it seem Applegate is more effective rolling and spotting his receivers downfield. He hates interceptions and turning the ball over, but do think he ought to throw it away at times, instead of taking the sack. Most sacks are outside the pocket, where the O line can't hold off the D as good. The pocket breaks down immediately.

Did you really just call Syracuse and Davis 2 of the top Defenses in the state???? You really are in your own little world up there, thats why you think your team is so good...Good Luck in November you'll need it!

Sure do. So far, they've proven it, without much of a hiccup. Maybe you ought to pay attention to them a little more. WE'll see how they hold up. Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of both schools, but also a rival of them being a Layton fan. What more does a team have to prove, when they're both averaging giving up 5-8 pts/game. Show me many SLC schools doing that.
True Blue Layton fan | 12:21 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
.....and at least I'm not afraid to speak up about it.
to WOW!!!! | 12:28 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
To back up what I'm saying, here's how many points each team is giving up each game:

Davis: 0, 6, 13, 6, 13, 9
Syracuse: 6, 0, 6, 13, 0, 9

Now if that's not proof in the pudding, what is it?
May as well give a plug to Layton....which other than the shootout with Cottonwood, which is Utah's overall #1 offense, here's how many pts Layton has given up:
0, 40, 14, 13, 13, 14

Region 1 has always been known to be a defensive region. YOu gotta love a great D!

True Blue Layton fan | 1:29 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Actually, this is the 13th post in this thread. So, let's see, who's your team....Northridge? Davis? Alta? Bingham? Odds are it's 1 of those 4. To say Layton isn't good, I guess you just told all of the writers for desnews and the other guys, along with every other person that knows football, that Layton is good. This will be my last post to you, so go get a life & say something constructive. It's people like you that just have trash to say & nothing else, that can bring a good thread to a halt. Goodbye my friend.
to MMA, from True Blue L | 1:49 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
You said, "The teams at Bingham and Alta Just look bigger and faster". Slow motion, as you'd call it.

That's because they are. Many teams are. Layton is a small 5A school, producing fewer athlete studs than the huge schools in SL County. Don't want to debate that here, because it's been pummelled in other threads many times.

As far as the slow-mo feel to you.....that's what happens when you play the smash mouth D that Layton plays. It just slows you down baby.
DHS DARTS | 2:15 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Wow people give true blue layton fan a break, I can't believe I am backing him up since I HATE Layton. But he just likes the sport, and I respect that. He usually has pretty valid points.
Blue | 2:22 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Layton only has to win one game and that's against Clearfield. Alta and Bingham we don't want or need your respect. Layton fans you cannot convince these naysayers how good Layton is. The fact they are all over these Region 1 blogs, let's us know they are nervous. To all you SLC schools will see ya when we see ya!
To SLC fans | 9:45 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Alta and Bingham looks faster because there Region is slower. Thats what happens when all your best players in region goes to one school, it becomes varsity against jv. Thats why Region one has 4 teams in top 20 in state. Layton only has 1600 students and still finds a way to be successful. OH did tell you davis schools might have open enrollment. That means Layton might finally have 22 starters. With the coaches they have, I would send my son there. Region #1 baby.
This is funny!!! | 10:56 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
You wont have our respect until you earn it. you havent beat anyone worth bragging about. you always act like your region is so good, but no team has been good since northridge won 2 straight. The Davis team that won it Barely squeeked by every game and that year was down for utah football. the teams werent as good.

And you can say Our Region is slower But you dont know anything about our region you have played one team, Jordan and that is it. The Person that said your team was slow watched the Bingham game then went to the Layton game, that is first hand Knowledge, Deal with it!
Watched the game | 1:14 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
What's funny is that this guy watched both games (is a Bingham fan) and somehow thinks his Bingham team is better, but isn't biased about it...

Ask Jordan if they think Layton is slow...

Fact is, the Layton defense flies around and makes plays, and is certainly not slow...

The offense, right now, might be a little slow...Applegate certainly isn't speedy, but ask that Division 1 recruit Washington from N-Ridge if that matters...also, we have our starting FULLBACK playing runningback, while being hurt...that certainly doesn't sound like speed is going to get the job done with that combo...meaning the Layton coaches have done a great job to utilize what they have...

Talk to us about speed when Jackson gets back from injury...

But I am not going to believe some biased fan of Bingham who he thinks is better...and me being a biased fan of Layton, I wont say who is better...just that Layton and Bingham are both great teams...so is Alta, Northridge, and I would have said Davis, but that Weber loss is just embarrassing...
dr lou | 6:34 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
good game both teams. i agree that the team that deserved to win did. but i have some objections first of all chris washington is a stud every player has a bad game but the best defense in the state is alta's all the way we proved it last year against layton and will prove it again if the chance comes up.

state playoffs will be great cya there
Wow!!! | 9:26 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
I just watched the game on comcast and there is one very important play that wouldve changed the outcome of the game! On the final play of regulation Cole scrambles around and is tackled, however no one probably noticed that he fumbled when he was tackled and one of the O-lineman picks the ball up and runs it in for what would have been the game winning touchdown..
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:56 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Northridge won 3 straight didn't they?

I'm the one that said Layton/DAvis players were slower.....IN A GENERAL SENSE. I'd say this, because our schools ARE smaller, so there's less of a talent pool. Again, this has been beat to death. It's a no brainer. Layton's D is one of the fastest, not biggest, but fastest Defenses in the state.....period.

The one and biggest play, which happened twice, was when the call was made to go for a TD, not a FG. TWICE. I don't mind, because it gave us the game. Thanks.
True Blue Layton fan | 11:00 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
I keep smelling upsets. Happened in college big time this weekend. Happened with Weber beating Davis, although, I really don't think it's as big of an upset as people ramp it up to be. Davis' D is great. The O is struggling, and will until Fowler gets more time under his belt. I'd be curious what returners will be with him next year.

So, upsets. It's bound to happen in high school soon. Could it be Alta, Bingham? Layton? Maybe not this week.....maybe week after that. You never know.
To Blue, from True Blue | 11:32 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Great point. "The fact they are all over these Region 1 blogs, let's us know they are nervous.". LOL!!!!!

There's not one SL or UT County coach that "WANTS" to play a tough Layton or Northridge or Davis team. You always hope and wish for an easy road to the final. People can criticize how Layton had an easy road last year.....and that's great! I'm happy for that. I don't think Skyline wants to see Layton, although maybe they want revenge from the 49-0 spanking Layton gave them last year. Lot of history and winning tradition at Skyline. Would love to see new blood in the playoffs. Course, Layton's not used to being in the playoffs, or at least going deep into them, so whatever team is there, is who Layton and its coaches/players will adjust to.

Layton can control one thing.....how they play, and shouldn't be worrying about who they're playing a 5 weeks down the road. One game at a time.

LUCK: When PREPARATION meets OPPORTUNITY... PERIOD!
Coach Batchelor has a non-egotistical philosophy..sorta like Joe Paterno, he promotes the one for all and all for one on this team and it shows. It seems that NorthRidge has so much hype, media coverage stating their physical condition, their new system and where they spent the summer learning it, their past record, their future and finally allowing their recruits to wear the symbol of their college while playing for the Knights that winning a region game is an after thought! 17-18 year old boys need to be grounded and taught how to respond to challenges, not to be taught how much better they are than their team-mates and their opponents. Too many people living vicariously through their kids, their super-stars, their glory and not enough people like Coach Batch who keeps his mouth shut and runs his program. In the end, character, integrity, and reality is rewarded by him. We need more coaches, parents, and people in the media, who do not use these kids to promote themselves. Their were 50+ athletes that are part of each team who take with them only what this experience teaches. So Right Layton is Lucky!
TO True Blue | 1:45 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
There you go AGAIN....smelling upsets against Bingham and Alta. Didn't you smell a WJ upset over Bingham?? Of course you did. You will do it every week and pray the loose and then come back and post that you called it and be all over the board calling them overrated. (like you have been doing all year) When Bingham blows out Kearns you will be smelling a Riverton upset then Hunter then CH then the playoffs and on to the championship vs. Alta for the 3rd year in a row.
True Blue Layton fan | 2:01 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Great post about Batchelor, his program and his mentality towards the game.

Look.....I don't and never have and never will rub something in, with the "I told you so" attitude. Just love my team and support them. I'm just telling you, sometime this year Alta and/or Bingham will probably lose. If they don't, then they don't. No skin off my back. I think they're overrated for these reasons: Alta not as good as they were last year. Bingham, simply for the Parry's guide, which I discredit for several reasons....but biggest is the hugely overrated rating given to Bingham. There.....those are my reasons. BTW, I back up everything I say. I don't just throw trash around or make blind statements.

Call it whatever you want. A hunch? Smelling? educated guess? whatever.
True blue loser | 3:53 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
You are back and forth from last year to this year again. When Alta fans bring up the blowout game after the championship, you are always telling others to talk THIS year. You have thrown that 49-0 Skyline game from Last year on at least 20 posts. Can't have your cake and eat it too.
to True Blue Loser | 6:11 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
YOu are wrong. I am not bringing last year 'up'. I am responding to last year because others do. You should go back and read the posts again. I throw out Skyline, because people think Layton was lame last year against teams outside region 1.....also, because some think Layton doesn't have an offense.

Guess there's a fine line between arguing, which I don't like to do, defending myself, which I open myself up to because I said I'd back up my statements.....and debating, which I enjoy.

Now stupid comments is another thing.

Going to go eat my cake.....and eat it too.
To All Who Should Know | 9:32 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Hey did anyone see the last play before OT of the Ridge and Lancer game. Junior fumbles it his knee is clearly not down on the ground and one of their linemen picks it up and runs it in for a touchdown, but the refs call it down.. Go check the game out on comcast and you will clearly see who won. I go to PG and I know it really doesnt matter to me but I just thought everybody should know the truth. Northridge really did win that game. And I think layton knows that also, so keep your heads up knights we know you won and so does layton.
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:29 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
When it's playoff time, nobody will remember this. The "W" is all that matters. You can always point out a play a ref made, a drop a receiver made, a fumble, etc etc etc.....but it's the the Big Fat "W" that counts.

Happened to be at Layton High today (ironically enough to watch Layton's undefeated volleyball team beat "previously" undefeated NOrthridge). Saw LaVaughn Jackson, who the 'other paper' cited as being the top pre-season RB in the state. He's getting closer, playing it day by day.

When Jackson & Williams (pinched nerve in foot) are healthy, the rest of the region and playoff bracket teams, should be shaking in their cleats. Well, I know for a fact the opposing coaches will be.

This is for everyone, Lets drop everything about the past. We all know what happened and are wasting our time arguing about it. Layton is good and the black and blue (Alta and Bingham) won't respect them until they come prove it to us. Not their own region but to us. Alta and Bingham are both good. Layton refuses to believe it until it's proven to them. Whats done is done and cant be changed. All that's left from the past is being able to look back and start the what if game. Region 1 we won't know your strength until we see it first hand so stop beating a dead horse here. Also, as far as our region strength goes, were not saying we have the toughest of schedules but Alta and Bingham deserve their spots. When it's proven at the end of each year, weak reigon or not whoever leaves with the state trophy is the best in the state.
layton chistian dude | 12:45 a.m. Oct. 2, 2008
good job so far this year layton dont stress it you will make it to state this year and win it with jackson leading the offense. dont even listen to all these other people saying that you barely skweaked by nridge cuz you didnt you all faught hard to win and shut them out the rest of the game and came out with a win and thats all that matters.

Let's talk football baby! I love it! FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS AT ITS BEST!
True Blue Layton Fan | 2:17 a.m. Oct. 2, 2008
Hey, ALTAFAN, we know why you are here in the Layton thread. Because we are so much more fun here. We love our football. OK, so I have posted who knows how many of the 87 posts so far, but that still doesn't count for all the other fans. I love to see other schools commenting in other threads......whether it's trash talk or not. Makes it more fun & juicy.

It's funny that you are on a Layton article. It shows you are concerned. Why are you even including Bingham in your comments. Bingham doesn't even like you.
ALTAFAN | 5:11 p.m. Oct. 2, 2008
RE To ALTAFAN, Wow! You sure got me there! I guess you've got me all figured out! Check again clown I'm actually in a lot of posts not just this one. If you're going to pull the concern card then maybe you should check out other posts where it has nothing to do with Layton and yet they're on there talking. Does that mean that you're concerned Layton? I read all of the posts and comment where I feel like it. Of course you would know if Bingham likes Alta or not how silly of me (a local to the area and alum to alta) to think I know more about the 2 schools relationship then somebody that lives an hour away...Again read the posts before you open your mouth. Bingham has backed up Alta all season and Alta has been backing up Bingham all season. It's a little something called mutual respect. I'm just glad all Layton fans aren't as clueless and naieve as you. Layton best of luck tomorrow. Clearfield shouldn't be a problem for you.

I was actually just playing around with ALTAFAN. I too enjoy reading other threads, but tough to keep up with every class, so usually I'm a homer and focus on 5A. I keep an eye on the other classes, because of some associations, but it's actually fun & educating to go thru some other threads and read about their team.
