Remember the private school voucher issue last year?

Senator Chris Buttars voted FOR the private school voucher bill in 2007.

Eight months later, West Jordan residents voted AGAINST the voucher 61-39 percent.

One more reason why I'm not supporting Buttars in November.

After reading all these comments from people who supposedly live in District 10 and voted for Buttars, I am beginning to think you all deserve each other. He really DOES represent your views, which you think is great but shocks the rest of us at your narrow-mindedness and stupidity.

It reminds me of the really awkward and ugly guy you think will never ever get married and then one day you see him and he's found this really awkward and ugly girl and they're totally happy together, and you just have to say, "Good for them."

Good for you, District 10. You're perfect for each other.

I used to think that the people of West Jordan could not be so stupid to elect Butters again but I guess they are just that stupid.

To all you SLC Buttars bashers, now you know how the rest of the state felt when you re-elected Rocky Anderson.

A couple of commenters said Buttars used his position in the state senate to further his business interests, but did not give examples. I think you would get more mileage from your accusations if you gave the details. I've not heard these accusations before, and would be interested to find out about them. Thanks in advance.

I find it interesting that the people who stand up for what they believe in are so maligned by the media and the public, but those politicians who simply tell people what they want to hear, never do anything outstanding or innovative, and will likely need to see a proctologist to get the fence posts removed when they leave office are loved by the people and the media. No wonder we can't get statesmen and stateswomen to run anymore. Who needs the venom and grief?

Come on, Deseret News, if youre going to allow this forum, please dont shield yourselves from criticism. I sent in a valid comment about the approach taken by the writer of this article, Bob Bernick, but it never got posted. Bernick says that Chris Buttars was bashed in the media and got bad press. But Bernick himself was one of the ones doing the bashing, and he continues to stir the pot. Chris Buttars is an honorable man, in spite of the image projected by those who disagree with him politically. He should be re-elected.
GO BUTTARS! | 6:11 p.m. Sept. 23, 2008
I am proud of Chris Buttars. The majority of his constituents care about what is right and, therefore, also are proud of him. Let the ones who hate what is right continue to spew their petty, hateful comments.

It is time to put Curtis and Buttars out to pasture. Curtis has had ethical problems where ever he has been. I think guzzle gate, soccer stadium, vouchers, and the school district slit mess say it all. Curtis has been bought and paid for by Special interest groups like the nuclear waste, tobacco & alcohol, developers, trial lawyers, and HMO"s. He currently has over $500,000 thousand dollars in his campaign fund. He can't represent the will of the voters in his district because he is beholding to these special interest groups. We need to send a strong message this fall that Utahans want good open government. We are sick and tired of the back-room dealing and special interest bought politics of our GOP Leadership. Vote for Seegmiller and Democrats. Bring good open government and ethics reform to Utah.

The 3:44 comment from JAY was outstanding! I hope All Jay's will stand up and fight against this Buttars fool. He is the most rotten R in Utah!. Jay N.
Buttars intimidates judge | 12:24 p.m. Sept. 24, 2008
Someone asked about proof of Buttars' involvement in a real estate deal?

Chris Buttars is a friend of Wendell Gibby, a local doctor and Mappleton real estate developer.

Last year Judge Derek Pullan in Utah County made a decision against Gibby in a local real-estate dispute. Buttars wrote a bitter and angry letter to Judge Pullan on official letterhead about his decision regarding his friend, Gibby. The tone of the letter was intended to intimidate the judge since Buttars held a powerful position on the Senate Judicial Confirmation Commission.

Shortly after the letter became known by the public, Senate President John Valentine removed Buttars from his post as chairman of the Senate Judicial Confirmation Commission.

Google "Buttars letter to judge" for future details.
been there | 7:24 p.m. Sept. 24, 2008
Many of the posts accused the media of "bashing" Senator Buttars. However I have been there on several occaisions when he was susposedly misquoted or his words were taken out of context. No he was not misquoted or "bashed" The media doesn't need to make it up! He is very open with his comments and opions and they are reported accurately. And what about threatening the judge? Not only was it a blatant misuse of his position, and unethical BUTTARS WAS WRONG the ruling was correct.
