You have to get nospin information to make a decision. I will vote Republican for my Utah Rep, as he is one of the best on the hill.
I agree that you can't just vote for a party, as each party has weak candidates. I have always voted for the person, with a tie going to the GOP. I have never punched straight ticket for about 30 years. I also agree we have some in the GOP that should not be re-elected - as long as we have someone better to replace them, either from their own party or another.
That said, I have felt for close to 6 years that Cannon needed to be replaced. Two main reasons, and neither had to do with immigration. I went and listened to Leavitt and was impressed. After Listening to Chaffetz, I was torn. Jason's State GOP speech decided it. Not because I agreed 100% with Jason, but because he was the best choice.
I had been excited about Bennion, considered him if Cannon made it to the primary. He has disappointed me. His stand on issues, the Jesus vote, and smearing Jason has left one choice. Jason Chaffetz
How a party can consider itself moral when it is waging an unjust war and killing tens of thousands is beyond me. And it encourages xenophobia and is disrespectful to minorities and women. It detains people for years with no due process. We wire tap without warrants. We torture prisoners. What has happened to our sanity?
Since republicans wont decrease government or spending, why vote for them. I agree with their fiscal principles, but until they show me they will practice what they preach, I'm not coming back.
I can't wait to vote for Obama.
A vote for McCain is a vote for change. I don't agree with him 100%, but Obama has been one of the most liberal senators in DC. McCain, has correctly been running as a Maverick. He has ticked off people on both sides of the isle. As a former POW, McCain will have a better record on human rights.
xenophobia, is not being spread by Chaffetz. His number 1 to 4 core principles do hot even mention immigration. When he does talk about immigration, his first response is to fix legal immigration so it doesn't take so long to legally immigrate.
Unfortunately, all of this hubbub is being generated by the democrat opponent's campaign. They have pretty sounding ads with no negative, and, in my opinion, try to stab Jason in the back, making it look like they aren't involved.
Unfortunately the democrat opponent has no money, and has decided to smear someone's good name. We have enough of that in DC already.
I really hope people wise up and vote for Bennion Spencer. However I am not getting the sense that he is running a strong campaign, and am beganing to doubt if he really wants to win. He needs to be more voca and open in his race if he wants to win.
All people have rights. I hope you are not LDS because you clearly do not understand or comprehend that we are all children of God.
Chaffetz views are the exact opposite of the position of the church as expressed by Elder Jensen.
I sometimes wonder why people are so selective on what advice of church leaders they follow.
It is illogical to vote for McCain and Chaffetz. They are diametrically opposed. As I have said before, I hope Chaffetz gets two votes.
You obviously are basing your statements, based on spin. I believe you have missed the truth re: Jason.
1. Chaffetz and McCain agree with earmarks.
2. Bennion has recently wimped his immigration stand on his website, so that he doesn't match anyone but Honda and JACL and La Raza.
3. Chaffetz never said to NOT to treat people with consideration. Keeping the current system is inhumane. He wants to decrease the amount of time to legally immigrate to the US.
The democrat opponent of Jason has, based on appearances, been following two plans. Use media attention because he doesn't have any money, and two, keep writing his book, because if he does not win, he is going to need some money. His own party seems to be letting him go it alone.
Trying to use or misuse the LDS church or Jesus to convince people to vote for the democrat is not going to work.

The 3rd district election result is completely predictable. Utah County is addicted to the Republican party, not that we have anything to show for it. Chaffetz will win the election come heck or high water, and McCain-Palin will carry Utah.
What an embarrassment.
