Former Genola recorder pleads guilty to forgeries

So, it I understand this story, Traci wrote checks of $5,140, $6,120 and $7,140 (approx. $18,000) and she has to make restitution payments of 104,000 and $124,400.

That is not restitution but punitive damages. Restitution is replacing what was taken. She is paying almost 13 times what she took.

Please explain???

the amount is for the money taken in the charges that were dismissed. If indeed, she got away with over $200,000, she's darned lucky!
Furthermore, where did she come up with the amount of money to pay this hunk of change back? And what was she doing with the money--doing meth?
Lots of details missing in this story.
When I lived in Genola, someone would have had to sell the farm to come up with this amount of cash.

Genola is a small town. The clerk reports directly to the mayor. Two different mayors during the time she stole money. How come neither mayor knew about it? Six years? Mayor directly over her. $200,000? Does something smell funny here?

Just give the money back and everything is fine. Genola is good. Mayor is hero. Sweep it all under the rug where it belongs.

It is happy valley after all!
