Coach, Your program is about to get a big shot in the arm in the form of a huge win over the 15th ranked team in the nation. Don't put that for 'For Sale' sign up just yet.
Coach Ty, this is your lucky day. You see, any other ranked team would pound your pathetic Huskys, but not this ranked team. This ranked team does not win non-conference road games, period. They never have, never will and there is nothing you, I or anyone else can do about it.
Cougar Fans, don't despair... take advantage. Borrow a large sum of money and put it on the Huskys. Then get caught up on your over-due mortgage payments with the proceeds. You, like coach Willingham, will get to stay in your houses a little longer.
Lets Go Cougars!
Willingham will lose his job.
UW fans are irate and feel they have given him more than enough time to field a competitive team.
+3 for BYU, lock
+2 for BYU, near lock
-1 to +1, BYU has a VERY GOOD chance of winning
-2 for BYU, scary, probable loss
-3 for BYU, the Quest is over, move to goal #2, winning another MWC championship, a bowl win and a final Top 25 ranking
Locker can't match BYU's offense score for score. BYU doesn't need to shutdown Locker, they just need to slow him down. Bend but don't break. Washington's defense isn't good enough to shut down BYU's offense.
It could be a wild, high-scoring game, but as long as BYU protects the ball, BYU will chalk up a much need OOC road victory.
The Huskies have been backed into a corner by the string of losses under Coach W. Coaches and players feel the heat from the press and the fans. (One high profile Husky alumnus has even offered to set-up a $100,000 scholarship at the UW Law School if UW fires Willingham.)
So, the Huskies are going to EXTREMELY motivated to make a statement and try and save Coach W's job. In their minds a win against 15th ranked BYU will be just the ticket to (temporarily) take the heat off of their coaches. That's HUGE motivation!
THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS GAME FOR BYU!!! The players need to be mentally prepared to face this highly motivated Husky team, if they want to come away with a win. The Cougars will have to:
1. Execute, execute, execute;
2. Play error-free football;
3. Have a 150 yard rushing attack;
4. Play smash-mouth defense to stifle UW offense;
5. Not look past UW, to the UCLA game.
Accomplish these things, and the Cougars will come away with a very satisfying win in a difficult venue.
THIS BYU TEAM HAS THE ABILITY TO DO IT!!!
Thanks.
UW has raw talent and their coach has a long string of not being able to develop that talent into a winning team. Same results as at Notre Dame.
I completely agree that Washington is going to be up for this game. New year, first home game and they likely believe in the basic PAC-10 superiority over the rest of the universe. They likely look at BYU and their #15 rank is a cherry pick win so their confidence and expectation are going to be high.
Washington is still very undisciplined. Their defensive front-four is their strength, and after that the rest of their defense refused to play assignments against Oregon. BYU will score on this defense.
The question is our defenses ability to stop Locker. If we keep him in the pocket we win. He holds the ball too long. If he gets out of the pocket it could be like that Paul guy from Tulsa last year, but Washington isn't as high scoring.
Great game but more disciplined team wins. Should be BYU.
Go cougars!
If I were the defensive coordinator I would come after them, hard. I would blitz slightly more on the left side know that Hall has a history of getting wacked, and that BYU is still weak on the left tackle spot, now being manned by a red-shirt Freshman.
In blitzing a lot you are challenging the center, who calls out blocking assignments, and BYU has a new center.
I would go after them both and make BYU's O-line prove they can handle it. An aggressive pressure/blitz defense would be a real test.
I hope the Reynolds brothers are up to it.
