Women can be in places other than the home. I get so annoyed when I hear the phrase, "A woman's place is in the home." I wonder how men would react if they were given such limited parameters in which to operate. Mormon women are used to taking a backseat to men, but in the wider world this is not being tolerated. I am thrilled that the stereotypes of the past are being overcome.
The Whole Package | 10:46 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Inspite of telepromter malfunction at the beginning of her speach, this woman was cool, collected, and carried on without detection. She is smart, can think on her feet.

I am amused and disgusted by the liberal's desperate scramble to debunk this individual. The press has truly become our 4th arm of government. They've done all they can to destroy a good person in the last few days, nevertheless, she has surfaced resiliently.

What we need in Washington is her! She is not without past mistakes, (you are welcome to throw stones here if you have never made any) No, her family isn't perfect (more stones welcome if your's is) but she is genuinely a better person for experiencing those things and learns from them.

She is a quick study and will gain much from her association with John McCain. Together these two have the whole package!

Conservtive woman don't like her - at least most don't. I don't.

Bravo on your comment. I completely agree with you.

The strategy of the GOP is that when you can't win on principal, win on the overwhelming, ignorant hatred of the majority, and trample your opposition in a fearful stamped
I knew Ronald Reagan | 10:48 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
And voted for him 4 times (CA and President). Ms.Palin...

YOU ARE NO RONALD REAGAN.

4 years in exile, then home again.

If it had of been MITT ROMNEY who was chosen for this job, you all would be hearing a different tone and story on this post. Utah is obviously a SEXIEST state! It doesn't take too much commonsense to figure that one out.
I FEEL BETTER... | 10:50 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Obama just got schooled... by a woman!
Of course her high school basketball point guard experience trumped Obama and Biden's leadership training!

And I'll take a retired REAL Military Officer over any wanna-be-star and election.
Everyone take a deep breath | 10:51 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Both sides have been taking potshots at each other. Admit it. When it's your guy/gal doing the attacking, it's called "telling the truth" and "focusing on the issues," but when it's your guy/gal getting attacked, it's called "partisan politics" and "ad hominem attacks." Yes I have read all the speeches and yes they all contain attacks on the other side.

Don't like what you see? Send a message and vote for a 3rd-party candidate. Don't worry, the election won't change based on your one vote, but the tone very well might, and in future years almost certainly will.
Please Utah think about 2012 | 10:54 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
McCain is pushing Romney out of a leadership position.

Utah; please if McCain/Palin are elected Mitt Romney will no longer be a viable front runner for 2012.

Palin will be the new leader for the republican party for the next 12 years!

I am voting for Obama so Mitt can lead us to White House in 2012!
Lib's running scarred | 10:52 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I've never seen the Lib's in such a panic or so petrified. You know you are in BIG trouble. You have definitely been brought down a few {quite a few) notches. The GOP are FIRED UP!!!!!!!!!
re I feel better. | 10:57 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Me too. I've been trying for about 8 years to justify my switch to he democrates. Now, theis conseravtive woman is doing just that.

And if Romney had been picked as Veep, I might have reconsidered. is kids are grown, and his sons are married, and his grandchildren were all born within the bounds of marriage. They did not wait for a ringbearer to pop out to help out with the wedding.
Jud | 10:55 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Actually, there are TWO Alaska gas pipelines being built, which is very weird. BP didn't want to wait for Palin's pipeline. But Alaska is going ahead with its plans to build another one. Has Palin succeeded here or engineered a giant mess up?
thatthatguy | 10:55 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Okay, Palin seems very nice, "hockey mom" and all. However we're still voting for a president this fall and I just can't support putting in a foul-mouthed, short-tempered, man as the diplomatic face of the U.S. I'm still deathly afraid he's got an axe to grind over his POW time and will go looking to pick fight (e.g. start a war) with any country that doesn't get out of the way fast enough.

We really need a diplomat in the oval office to clean up Bush's mess. Someone who's actually willing to talk without making unreasonable demands of them first.

So while Ms. Palin seems very nice, I still don't want her running mate as president.

Not all people who do not like the mavricks choice i cheerleaders are thrilled. It's nt the left taking this woman down. It's the right. I'm along wth them. Ican't vote for her. I refuse to be told to sit down and vote this way ever again.

Sarah needs to go home and do her job as a mom first. Then call us.
True feminist | 10:57 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
What's not to love? This woman is single-handedly bringing Republicans into the 21st Century. She is showing them that women CAN be mothers AND high-power executives. She had a baby and went back to work 3 days later. She is a true champion in the women's right movement, and she deserves our kudos for that!

(Other issues may take a little longer, but we'll take the little victories as they come.)

Go Palin! Show us how it's done!
Bishop Rick | 11:00 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I am glad I got to hear Palin speak last night. She helped be to solidify my decision to vote for Obama in November.

Palin is painful to listen to. | 11:06 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Sarah Palin looked and sounded smug and arrogant to me. I didn't enjoy her rudeness. I didn't like that she spent the majority of her speech attacking the Obamas and spent almost no time telling us what she can do for our country. I don't like someone who is focused on arguments and badmouthing others. I won't be voting for Sarah Palin.
Palin is Perfect (for now) | 11:07 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Palin is perfect!!! She's exactly what the Republican Party needs to shake them up and change some old stale attitudes about women! She's also teaching them how to stop being hypocrites when it comes to family problems like a teen age pregnancy. (If only Dick Cheney's daughter could have opened their eyes about gay children -- but I guess that's still too much to hope for).

Republicans are having their consciousness raised, and I for one, salute the woman responsible! Way to go Palin! (Doesn't mean I'm going to vote for her, just means she has my admiration.)
Republicans might win if | 11:09 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Palin would sack John McCain
You can see who is doing all the talking
Palin needs to be the Mother at home
Not the VP.
Her decision shows she is not compident in serious matters
Her Family is falling a part as well
Madden | 11:11 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I'm with Utah Dem, I am sick of the posturing and name calling. Both sides are acting childish, this is the change we were promised? Looks the same to me from both sides. No wonder I'll vote third party again (like it matters what I do in Utah anyway).

If I had to pick Rep or Dem, I'd still go for McCain. While I want to "punish" the GOP for the last 8 torturous years, we are much more likely to NOT go bankrupt with him in office. It is the most important difference between him and the Bush admin, he needs to hammer it home...fiscal discipline.

Greetings from Alaska. Sarah is there for ALL of us citizens of this United States of America. Ms. Sarah is ready to go up against the "good ole boys" and get things done. Has it been mentioned that she already has several of those individuals doing time in a federal prison on corruption charges in Oregon? Give her a chance people. Vote Democratic if you really feel the need. Sarah and John are taking this all the way. I loved the lipstick comment. And when do they EVER ask a father how much time he spends with HIS children. Loved that too. We are going to miss Sarah and her amazing family but she will NEVER forget where she came from. Please leave Ms. Bristol alone people. She's marrying the baby's dad, what more do you want? Our "First Dude" does and will make an amazing stay at home dad. Don't mess with "Sarah Barracuda". We love you Sarah and WE know God is putting you in Washington to take care of business. Of course we'll miss you but our love and support goes to each of your family members. Luck you don't need because God will be with you....

Karl Rove on Palin: "She's was the mayor of the second largest city of Alaska before running for president". he's impressed with her experience obviously.

Karl Rove on Tim Kaine former mayor of Richmond and current Governor of Virginia: "he's been a governor for 3 years, mayor of the 105th largest city in America, so if Barak wre to pick Governor Kaine it would be an intensely political choice which would say you know what, I"m really not first and foremost concerned with is this person capable of being president of the United States"

Republican hypocrisy at its best.
Let the cover up begin! | 11:15 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Governor Palin allegedly fired the Public Safety Commissioner for refusing to fire a state trooper who was Palin's ex-brother-in-law. The state of Alaska has hired a public lawyer, who is currently trying to move the investigation from a panel made up of state legislators to a panel made up of Palin appointees.

Not only is the Troopergate investigation trying to be moved to a board composed of governor appointees, but the McCain campaign also may be trying to delay the report, due four days below the election, to prevent an October Surprise.

And you thought McCain and George W. Bush were one in the same. Palin is a George W. Bush diamond in the rough.

You can keep telling yourselves that libs are scared, I am one Lib that is sitting on the sidelines of the convention watching the GOP pull itself apart at the seams. it is rather amusing that people reallly think this is helping their case.
dem hypocricy | 11:18 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
You dems are talking out of the side of you mouth. Every and I mean, every criticsm you have of Palin, fits to a tee Zero Obama. It so funny you embrace a community organizer, but reject a small town mayor, or that you scream Palin has no experience, and think that Obama has more? You are hillarious. It is beyond belief to listen to your arguments. Let me be the first to say, this pick of Palin has given the white house to the republicans.
Loving it | 11:20 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I will vote for Palin because I support underaged drinking and teenage pregnancy. She really stands for something. Go Wonder Woman!
no substance | 11:20 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Ms. Palin is familiar with the teleprompter.
And from it she launched the same tired partisan attacks while supplying the nation with nothing of real substance when it comes to what she would do about: the sinking economy, healthcare, foreclosures, outsourcing, war, etc.

Rush Limbaugh could have delivered her speech for her.
No mcCain | 11:21 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I will never foregive McCain for not picking my man Mitt. Never!

I am with Obama now as a teacher I may get paid more under his administration.
Country bumpkin! | 11:29 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
So Palin is supposed to represent small town America and its family values? This is the model for the GOP and Religious Right? What an embarrassment!
Romney Fan | 11:28 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I'm for Obama in 2008 and Romney in 2012.

McCain and Palin are just going to mess things up.
Feminist ? | 11:32 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
"Other Issues will take a little longer," is a very telling statemen "true Feminist." Look at all the other more highly qualified women that McCain looked over to find Palin and ask yourself what his true motivation was? Was it really about helping feminism advance? Getting evangelical votes? Other reasons? I think the proof is in your statement.
family values? | 11:35 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
One GOP candidate dumps his first wife for a younger, wealthier model (made her bucks in the alcohol industry).
The other candidate leaves her kids with the nanny while she pursues worldly ways.
And our sanctimonious, family values folk in Utah eat it up!
Hilarious!
Absolutely [flipping] hilarious!
What a woman, and... | 11:39 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
What a great example of the American work ethic. She gives birth, and 3 days later is back on the job. (Who needs maternity leave?) And she shoots animals in Alaska from a helicopter (look out Putin). This woman is amazing. She's a self-described "pitt bull" who looks like a Playboy librarian. What more could we possibly want in a Vice President?
The Best Man | 11:43 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It turns out the best man in the race this year isn't a man at all -- I like Sarah Palin better than McCain, Obama or Biden combined.
Bumper Sticker | 11:45 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that read: "Obama wants to kill babies and raise taxes. Palin wants to kill taxes and raise babies." The contrast between the two parties could not be more distinct than it is this year.
I favor McCain over Obama | 11:50 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
but I was a bit concerned of the ridicule and derision of both Giuliani's and Palin's speech about Obama being a "community organizer."

I think Martin Luther King Jr. was a great community organizer as were the Sons of Liberty and guys like Joseph Warren, Sam Adams and Paul Revere for that matter.

Many politicans get their start in this endeavor and many like King changed the course of history through their efforts.

I do credit Palin and her experience as mayor and governor. She seems to be capable and has high approval ratings. But also the reality is that her overall experience is marginal. Both the town where she was the mayor and Alaska the state are small, homogeneous populations. Indeed she did well in calling as mayor and certainly is off to a good start at governor, but she would be better off not to get too high and mighty about Obama's lack of experience and focus on touting McCain's instead.

Her speech was great on many levels but I think Obama's service to his country and community through his efforts should be praised rather than ridiculed.
same slimy GOP politics | 11:53 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
All might have been fine if Palin had discussed much in the way of issues, but she mostly avoided them, except for a few obligatory calls to drill for oil everywhere and build new nuclear reactors. Palin's basic message, toward the end: McCain was tortured. Vote for him. "It's a long way from the fear and pain and squalor of a six-by-four cell in Hanoi to the Oval Office," Palin said. "But if Senator McCain is elected president, that is the journey he will have made." When she spoke about her son Track's deployment to Iraq, it was moving. But it was hard not to notice that she made no mention of Joe Biden's son Beau, who's also leaving for the same destination before Election Day. The implication was that only one ticket cared much for the troops.
Sorry, GOP. Slime by any other name is ...

Go PALIN! | 11:56 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I love this women! She is down to earth and is just like all of us. So what if she has a pregnant teenager, look at all these other teens that are pregnant (For example, Jamie Spears), there is no fuss and talk about her getting married and having a baby when she is barely 17. And about Palin coming at the Democrates at the RNC, that is a bunch of crap. Democrates come at Republicans just as bad, if not worse. Obama and Biden are idiots! Good for Palin! She is an amazing women.
B | 12:01 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
McCain and Palin get their health insurance paid for by the government (hers in Alaska and his in Washington). Yet they oppose giving the nearly 46 million uninsured Americans the same access to affordable health care.

John McCain's kids don't have to worry about paying for college. Yet he has opposed every single education support program to help others.

McCain and Palin say they will stand up to oil companies. Yet the only energy policy they support gives millions of dollars in tax breaks to oil companies to do more drilling and he has opposed every piece of federal legislation to explore alternative fuel sources.
Ronald A. Young | 12:18 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
This is America and in America, Men and Women are equal. We do not stop teaching the girls after the 6th grade. Now the Gender Wall is awful and is a challenge to overcome and many do not make it.
Girls, some Boys are told what they can and cannot do from an early age. I gave my Children family connected but Gender Neutral Names for a Reason, so they would have a chance in Society without being in an automatic box.

What does that have to do with this? Well in America a lot of us like to see people come from "off the pace, out of the pack, or from the outside and win." Mrs. Palin is a fine example of that, however she did not come out of nowhere by a long shot. She was prepared by both life and work (Gov of Alaska a State that has off year elections for Gov),when the phone call came. The fact or fiction that No One knows who she is just that fiction and has nothing to do with her. It has to do with the Rest of US not being informed. Timing and need are also issues.

Cheerful Viciousness | 12:26 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
With last night's cheerfully vicious speeches from Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin, the Republicans did what they always do in order to win elections: they exploited raw cultural divides while mocking, belittling and demonizing Democratic leaders. Yet again, they delivered brutally effective and deeply personal blows to the Democratic presidential candidate grounded in the same manipulative and deceitful yet very potent themes they've been using for the last three decades.

Ever since Ronald Reagan's election, this is what the Republicans do every four years. They render issues irrelevant and convert campaigns into cultural wars and personality referenda. They converted our elections into tawdry reality shows long before networks realized their entertainment value.
Observation. | 12:31 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
My wife found Palin not be her choice. I had to agree. Any thoughts we had about a Republican vote just went out the window. Why didn't McCain pursue C.Rice? Poor decission by McCain.

I thought that the past 8 years under the dictatorship of Bush/Cheney (Yes Bush did say once it would be easier if he were a dictator) but it looks like it could get worse with McCain/Palin. Watching the Rep. convention makes me nauseous so I stopped watching. GOD SAVE AMERICA FROM THE REPUBLICANS!!!!
I Remember Reading | 12:41 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
about a person running for president and the President of Yale University at the time, warned that if this person were elected, "We may see our wives and daughters the victims of prostitution, soberly dishonored."

The author then stated, "Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment. Remember that no one ever kicks a dead dog."

The person the president of Yale was talking about, Thomas Jefferson. Hang in there Sarah.

Remember, "no one ever kicks a dead dog."

I feel I have a Horse in this Race. I feel we have a fighting chance. I feel that Mrs. Palin is the right person at the right time. To bring the Party together and have the right wing of the party come out and vote. I could not force myself to pull the lever for McCain, but I will be happy to do it for McCain and Palin.

I still believe you should leave the kids out of it to include Bristol and to a little lesser extent Trig. The baby appears to be fine and they will see how he develops. I wonder how much US Mag, paid for the Baby Pictures.

If Mrs. Palins Pregnant Daughter and getting her Abusive, Cop, brother in Law fired is the worst thing they can come up with, and her Husband years ago DUI. If that is all they can do then Lets Keep On Dancing. No One All Their Life is totally 100% clean. Everyone did something or said something at sometime.

She is prepared and "we in America like people who come out of the pack and off the pace, to Win." We take joy in David over Goliath.
