My wife died of ICC and went through the Mayo protocol. The time for the preliminary radiation/chemo treatment was about 7 months and by the time of transplant the tumor had metastasized. I have encouraged the doctors to do Y-90 microsphere radioembolization of the main tumor at diagnosis. My wife had it after the metastasis and it destroyed the tumor but it was too late. our experience was that this treatment will not be offered at most of the top centers. Dr. Andrew Kennedy at Wake Oncology in Cary NC is at the forefront and he treated my wife. I think she would be alive today - and perhaps cured, if she had the microsphere treatment, a short course of chemo/radiation and then the liver transplant.

On May 26, 2008, I received a liver transplant as part of this clinical trial. It has been a miracle for me and my family. It took just over a year from diagnosis to transplant. The year was filled with many challenges. Waiting for transplant was by far the most challenging. I will forever be grateful to my donor and their family who gave me the gift of life.

The medical care that I received has been and still is exceptional. The treatment has provided a cure for me from a very lethal cancer. Thank you Dr Schwartz and Dr Hutson.
