Palin introducing herself; GOP blasts questions

Hello, my name is "hypocrite". | 1:58 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
If it were Obama's daughter who was pregnant the liberal press wouldn't even waste the ink to report the story. This is a non-issue. Every American family has struggles and issues related to their children. This just makes everyone with a critical opinion look like a hypocrite.
executive experience | 2:10 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Obama has none, Palin has a little. Why does everyone worry about her being a heartbeat sway with little experience but Obama supporters couldn't care less that she looks like a veteran compared to him.
Independent | 2:11 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
So my vote is up in the air. But I have to wonder about Palin. She's got an infant with Down's Syndrome, a daughter who has chosen a very difficult life path, etc. In short, this is a woman with a lot going on in her life. I don't know how to feel about that. Who is going to take care of her family while she's in office? Is a vote for her really a family values choice? Seems to me if she really cared about her family and their values, she would be there more for them.

The only way I could see that not being the case is if her husband is planning on being a full-time stay-at-home dad.

I take great offense at your statement. I never prayed for a hurricane to strike anyone down. I also like Obama more than Hillary, but would have still voted for her if she'd won the party nomination. I just prefer Obama's stance on healthcare.

I could say the same thing about your party, you know. It's those darn neocons that are always out bombing abortion clinics. Talk about hypocrisy. Take a life to save a life.

Bottom line: it's easy to generalize and demonize to make your stance seem more apropos, but that doesn't make it right. There are real people in both parties that care deeply about their country, even if they differ on the best course to be sailed. Shame on you and your blanket statements of hate.

John McCain has zero executive experience.
Oh my . . | 2:27 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
The thinly veiled chauvenism on this board is breath taking. You never ask male candidates questions like "who is going to take of the children?". Also, the personal insults are offensive.
Anonymous | 2:31 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Oh please Cats, get a life..terrified of Palin? We are just tired of the mess Bush has puit the world into and not wanting 4 more years of Republican nonsense. If Palin is so pro abstinence why did her daughter get pregnant? If she can control her own family how can she lead a country?
A in LA | 2:46 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I have been reading all the remarks on this blog and I am still amazed to read that so many of you people are saying, "Who me? I'm so smart I wouldn't be caught dead voting for someone with so little experience...'just a heart beat away from the Presidency'." .....Who by the way, probably will not ever be THE President. However, you are willing to put a person IN AS PRESIDENT that has little to no experience? Whose background is documented as being littered with close relationships to dissedents, crooks, and other questionable persons. That is the kind of experience you're looking for?Your reasoning is as screwed up as your comments.

FOR OBSERVER AT 10:AM - You're probably better off cleaning your toothbrush tonight - I doubt you'd be able to understand what is said by the grown-ups anyway.
It is about time we had a REAL choice and chance for change and I think McCain and Palin are a great ticket!

And your point is?
Anonymous | 3:01 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
The role of VP is very important. It's the person who tells the president all the stuff they need to do. Right, George?
kev | 3:09 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I agree that her daughter should be left alone a mere acknowledgment of it then the media should butt out but to say that that should not look at her background her preparation and qualifications for the job is wrong are we to take Johnnys word that she is the best for the job I think not but then Mr McCain is nit best for the job either
Observer | 3:10 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Watched the GOP convention with Palin and clan. It was like an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies.
Palin needs to bow out | 3:11 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Palin, the no-name with no experience, belongs at home with her children. This decision by the McCain campaign has just lost him the presidency. The only way McCain can stand a chance at winning this election is by having Palin bow out now, and choosing a different running mate.
Palin rocks !! | 3:11 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I am voting for the GOP because of Palin ... PERIOD! This woman is EXACTLY what we need in Washington. An outside reformer that hunts, fishes and is pro-life. It doesn't get any better than that!!! Talk about an opposite to smug liberalism that is so pervasive in politics today!
Oh Please, spare me excuses | 3:31 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I don't care of she is running for office. Anyone with a boozing pregnant 17 year old needs to reevaluate what they are doing with their work and their parenting. Simple as that. I am not liberal, I am not conservative, I am a common sense person.
Doug | 3:41 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
John McCain has more credentials/qualifications in his little pinky than Obama does in his whole body. Obama is a 1st term rookie senator who hasn't even done that job the last 2 years he's been running for Pres.

Palin has at least ran a state and balanced a budget. Has Obama had to do that...I think not...
thank you | 3:42 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
The hypo-hate here makes me more secure in knowing that my vote for McCain/Palin is more tolerant and progressive than a vote for Obama/Biden
to thank you | 4:09 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
"hypo" means underwhelming. I think you mean "hyper."
M. Allred | 4:12 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
To: thank you | 3:42 p.m.

Right on. Well written. Well said.
Grimble | 4:17 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Doug,

Palin balanced a budge? When she was mayor of Podunk Pole she inherited a balanced budget and left the town millions of dollars in the red.

She hired Ted Stevens's buddies to lobby for $27,000,000 of federal pork -- in fact, that pork ended up on McCain's anti-pork list!

She's cozy with the AIP, a group that hates America and wants to secede; here husband was a member for several years, and she attended their conventions.

She said she turned down the Bridge to Nowhere, when if fact she accepted the federal funds, abandoned the bridge project, and KEPT THE FEDERAL MONEY.

If you're too lazy to look up Obama's legislative accomplishments, too bad for you -- I've already listed them dozens of times on these boards for ignorant belligerents like you. Fine if you don't agree with what he's done. But don't ignorantly say he hasn't done anything.

Furthermore, it's THE MCCAIN CAMP that brought up Bristol's pregancy, and keeps talking about it in full victim mode -- nobody else besides People Magazine cares! They care about what a disastrous and poorly-conceived pick she is, and how badly it reflects on McCain's judgement.

It's funny that Brother Chuck Schroeder said she was pro-life and pro-gun. How can one be pro-life and pro-gun? Oh, I see. It's only pro-life until you reach the age when you can go off and die in an unjustified war.
Richie | 4:30 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
We look at Sarah as if she and all of her family should be perfect. FDR had a mistress and a bunch of fouled up kids. JFK and Lyndon Johnson were not perfect. Teddy Kennedy sent his girl friend swimming. So go smoke one of Clinton's special cigar's.
REMAY | 4:32 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Give me a break!!! Sarah Palin has FAR more executive experience that Barack Obama. That's just a fact. This whole media feeding frenzy is a sign of their fear that America will recognize her for what she is: a sterling example of a leader who's not afraid to take on the establishment, and who gets things done!!!

Nice try lefties, but on this one, you're really whistling in the wind.
from the right themselves | 4:33 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party. . . . I'm stunned -- couldn't the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didnt want a "mature" woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

jwr | 4:38 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Palin has been too busy politicing to be raising her own children - wonder why the daughter is pregnant, then again she is always holding the youngest baby as mummy is too busy taking care of her career. Her politics are no cleaner than anyone elses and her family values are to be desired. There is more to being a mother than popping out baby after baby. You have to be there for them. Mmmmm didn't McCain ditch his first wife for a younger model another good family value man. No thanks on GOP Family Values
A liberal thought | 4:43 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
This campaign is shaping up really to be a conundrum. On one hand, if I vote for McCain/Palin, I will be a racist (rejecting the African-American as president). If I vote for Obama/Biden, I will be a sexist (rejecting the 2nd woman to be nominated to VP level). What's a progressive thinker to do? Please help me...
Rob | 4:48 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I like Sarah Patin and think she could run cicles around some of the haters.
Oh ye of little faith | 4:51 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Governor Sarah Palin is a staunch conservative, pro-life, pro-gun, anti-same gender marriage or gay rights individual and a creationist (she believes that the science of evolution is flawed and the earth is only about 2,500 years old and created by God in 7 seven days).

Palin is currently under investigation for using her position to get her policeman ex-brother-in-law who divorced her sister terminated from his job. She is of course innocent until proven guilty.

McCain, a man that recently celebrated his 72nd birthday is a two-time cancer survivor who will be fortunate to live until inauguration. He selected a vice-president with no international experience and who has stated that she hasn't been following the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But fear not. Alaska is next to Russia, so technically she does have SOME international experience..

McCain's choice of this running mate is a grievous act of desperation, a betrayal to all that which we hold sacred in the institution of the U.S. presidency and recklessly dangerous for our nation. Furthermore, this act underscores McCain's profound disconnect with the average American voter.

God help this nation if McCain/Palin get elected this fall.
If... | 4:50 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
If it were Obama's daughter she would have had the abortion by now and nobody would have known. Obama is a complete disgrace accentuated by a DNC mired in Hollywood Hoopla that really said nothing yet it was loud, obnoxious and, well, let's say, put Apollo on the mat looking at his own image ala Narcissus.

Now, look at Apollo's friends and what do you have? An extremely compliant robot of America Haters. Do we want that in the Oval Office? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!

Any Lib's for some Kool-Aid?
RS Pres | 4:54 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Sister Palin needs to go home to her family and establish some moral foundation. It would be a tragedy if her selfish push to become V.P. ruins the lives of 5 children.
what about Limbaugh? | 5:09 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
"thank you" makes it sound as if their beloved GOP is rendered harmless in the hate-the-Democrats department. LOL!
Karen | 5:19 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Cats, you're kidding right? I wasn't aware that asking what her qualifications and experience have been is a vicious attack. I'm still waiting to have reporters drop the stupid personal attacks on both sides and start digging up substanstial information about policy matters. What a concept!
Richard | 5:23 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I do not understand why McCain is always refering to him self as a war hero. I understand he is an honored veteran, as many of us are, and that he was a victim of being a prisoner of war, but I do not know what makes him a hero. What was his heroic deed and what medal of honor did he recieve. Many of us have received the purple heart, and many were heros, but what makes McCain a hero.
michaelh | 5:26 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Obama is a fake. pay attention to his countenance, his facial expressions, his tone of voice, and his body language. He is pretending to be a person he is not.
Sara is real genuine does not have a messiah complex.
Gayle Ruzicka | 5:36 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
People like Palin are too liberal, she needs to run a tighter ship.

"Palin introducing herself; GOP blasts questions".

The REPUBLICAN brand is so TAINTED, the word REPUBLICAN was nowhere to be found on the floor of the RNC. Of course the GRAND OIL PARTY is going to blast the opposition. The REPUGNANTS will spew their ROVIAN INDUCED venom. We have heard it ALL before. NOTHING NEW THERE.

PALIN will use this forum to define herself (with last second coaching of course from the RNC). The test will be how she stands up to the scrutiny of millions of Americans who have learned to discount most of the REPUGNANTS talking points.
RI Reader | 5:45 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
All of you touting Mrs Palin's "executive exeprience" as a big advantage over Mr. Obama need to realize that by your definition she also has more "executive experience" than John McCain - which means (by your definition) she is the most qualified person running for either office - President or Vice President.

And that is scary .....

So I say "Sara for President" .... and free beer at the bowling alley for everyone ....!! Then we can all go home, cash our welfare checks and play hockey 'til election day hoping our "blue collar babe" wins the experience war.

Lets have a good old fashioned book burning in her honor. Someone get the wienies!
dcc | 5:56 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Wouldn't it be funny if one of the books she wanted banned was the Book of Mormon.
ok, i have a question | 6:01 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Who wrote Palin's speech? She didn't. Who is pulling the strings????????

Nixon wrote many of his speeches. I assure you she has not had the time nor the experience to write this speech. She has been campaigning, campaigning, and campaigning.

I really like McCain going over to levi and bristol and saying, "Sorry." Sorry, my foot, who do you think made the decision to include Palin and thus all of this baggage and media scrutiny? John McCain.

Do not lay that issue at the media's door: John and Palin did it together, good family folks, who want to protect the famil.

hahaha hahyah ahahah ah hah ah ahahahah ahahahhaha

Shame on Palin!
Such utter selfishness at the expense of her young family.
This is circa neoconism at its finest.
independent | 6:17 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
The GOP is in deeper trouble than anyone could have ever possibly imagined.

They really should think seriously about distancing themselves totally from the previous monstrous administration and declare themselves independent.
Ridgerunner | 6:35 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Wow! Sarah Palin has touched a nerve with liberals as evidenced by all the negative comments on here! Afraid of her are you? If you weren't, you would probably be applauding her as easily defeatable! Your reaction tell us much about your real feelings (fear)! Go Sarah!
To Brother Chuck Schroeder | 6:58 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Obama was a community organizer right out of college--before he went to law school and was elected president (managing editor) of the Harvard Law Review. He was a lawyer, law professor of Constitutional Law at U of Chicago, the most conservative prestigious law school. He was in the Illinois legislature for 8 years---with more people to serve in his district than are in the State of Alaska. He has been a senator for 4 years and even those who don't agree with him recognize that he has run an incredibly competent campaign. Palin was a part-time mayor for 4 years, in a very small town that has a full time professional manager hired by the city council because she couldn't manage the budget and she has been governor less than 2 years and under TWO investigations for corruption. I think she is a disaster.
Observer | 7:05 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
It's now being reported that Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair with an associate of her husband. The source, a trash tabloid, the National Enquirer. The same trash tabloid that revealed the John Edwards affair.
Anonymous | 7:05 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
"I wonder how many educated readers believed FDR was not qualified and lacked executive experience to be VP in 1920 when he was 38 years old? Some people need to relearn their US history otherwise they sound biased."

I can see Obama being an FDR. He will take a little recession and make it into a decade of worldwide economic pain. FDR was a disaster.
Grimble | 7:08 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I'm listening to the convention and can't help noticing how hilariously ironic this campaign's talking points are. The GOP is in such a shambles that their presidential candidate is running on the virtue of what a "maverick" he is -- that is, how little he listens to the rest of his party!

And Palin is a joke. With every passing day there are more revelations about her insatiable thirst for federal pork funds, her connections to lobbyists, her coziness with extremist groups, and her complete lack of qualifications. Now because a reporter asked her spokesperson what her executive duties were as head of the Alaska National Guard, and the guy had absolutely no answer, the McCain camp is whining about how hard the press is being! Then the MCCAIN CAMP reveals Bristol's pregnancy and parades the teens before the cameras so they can continue pushing this bogus theme of how victimized they are by the media.

Call a translator! McCain's campaign is talking again and I don't speak Whinese!
Make your minds up!!! | 7:49 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
LDS folks dont quite know what they really want. They strongly believe ''No other success can compensate for failure in the home'' and yet they support a person like Palin who puts her career first and who attends a Church that hates LDS folk. Beats me!
Mormons will fall for it | 8:44 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Mormons are sheep if they vote for Palin. She is a failure at her work with her family. nd that is where it all starts.

McCain chose a woman because... she is a woman... and not because she is good or qualified.
