A Pretty Good Writer? | 7:34 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Garrison Keillor is a "pretty good local writer". That pure Minnesotan speak. He's only the greatest modern story teller in the US with the best internationally syndicated radio show, "A Prairie Home Companion" on the airwaves.

I think Lee hit the nail on the head- they are canceling much of the convention not because McCain et al are going to go fill sand bags in the deep south or do some other actual helpful activity- they are worried about not getting TV coverage. That is probably the one rational reason for the action.

whc: There are federal regulations requiring that networks provide equitable coverage of political events/campaigns. While the coverage may be somewhat skewed, especially in the case of non-viable third-party candidates, the networks cannot legally cover one major convention and ignore the other.

Didn't anyone tell the Republicans they evacuated the people of New Orleans out of harm's way? The show must go on!

The leadership of George Bush failed the people of this country after Katrina. Never in our history have we not taken care of our own people. Shame on Bush and the GOP. If Mcain is elected he will be George Bush three. Our nation can't handle another four years of this type of leadership. Vote Obama.
