Mitt and the LDS Church and people are the ones who brought religion into
things. Nobody else really cared about it, but just like all Mormons, you have
to wear your stupid religion on your sleave and shove it in everybody's
face, and then when we don't like it and say anything about it, you call us
"anti-" and whine about how we are persecuting you for your
religion!
Keep your religion out of the public space and nobody will care what you religion is! But as long as you stick your religion into our faces, we will continue to tell you what we think of it. That doesn't make us bigots or unfair or anything; it makes you stupid to continue the practice!

How does Obama/Biden stand for all things not Mormon?
Uh, well, there's abortion (no room in the Democratic party for pro-choice folks, sorry)
There's gay marriage
There's the 2nd amendment
There's the idea that the lazy and irresponsible should live the same standard of living as those who actually work
There's the lack of willingness to defend our country
There's the affiliation with Hollywood and the decaying morals it promotes
There's partial-birth abortion
There's the growing movement in the party that the government should mandate how many kids you have (yep, it's pro-choice, as long as you make the choice THEY want you to make)
There's the Democratic foundation of taxing the people more to make the government bigger and bigger
There's the opposition to the death penalty and a leniency toward criminals
There's the disdain for our military
Should I go on? I'm running out of words.
Here's the truth: live outside of Utah for a while and see what Demos/liberals are all about. You'll also see that 90% of non-Mormons either like/respect LDS or just don't care. A handful of LDS haters (usually hypocrites who've committed serious sin) give the rest a bad name.

Native Alaskans are horrific and would not be permitted to exist in the Lower
48. People who live in the villages will spend around 40 percent of their income
this winter on fuel oil. You don't know all that is on her mind, but it is
not to get rich or to keep us in Iraq for the oil. She will remain concerned
about Alaska and that will be good for all of us. As for being a mother with a
special needs child, that is her business and how to work that out. Obviously
she cares and loves this child as does her husband. She has a lovely family and
that has to speak for itself. By way of contrast, Mitt was not chosen because he
is a Mormon--he was not chosen because underneath all his gloss is a wimp and
hypocrite who can't stick to his own values let alone respect the values
and efforts of those who went before him, meaning his LDS ancestry.

The GOP's treatment of Romney was a harsh truth. They used bigot tactics
to drive him out of the race. Yet, for all of your self-rightous Democrats that
are in their own dreamland (aka hopeville). Obama was using the same bigot
tactics in setting up ads and websites attacking Romney's mormon beliefs in
case he were to become the VP. So that is the politics of hope? Using old mud
slinging tactics to smear who you are running against.
I dislike the two party system, because it causes people on both sides to put on their blinders and look at the country through red vs blue glasses. There are good people who are serving us in Washington; however, the two parties leadership are so exetreme (Dems=liberal Rep=Right Wing nut jobs) that the good people are able to accomplish anything.

Many Mormon's and the people of Utah (that don't have a real life and
to much time on their hand's with nothing to really to do up there in Utah)
still believed Mitt Romney would be asked to join the ticket. If a member of
the LDS Church and the majority of Utahns, may have known for about a week that
he wouldn't be selected for the No. 2 spot why keep dwelling on it as if he
was The Prophet and President of the LDS Church but just died so now everyone is
in morning. GET A GRIP folks. McCain don't like Mormon's, it's
that simple. He wants the radical feminist Hillary femi-nazi votes is all, along
with a lower moderate broad than he is, in a "long shot" here, to win.

The most revealing thing about many of these comments from the LDS faithful
claiming that Mitt Romney is a victim of religious discrimination is the irony.
Most of you either demonize Sen. Obama in the same breath or make allusions
about the supposed 'dark times' to follow if he is elected. Of
course, despite the alleged reform of your denomination regarding racial
discrimination, what you are referring to is the belief that there is something
inherently wrong with being of African descent. It is amazing that you expect
others to see LDS members as victims of discrimination while engaging in the
worst possible kind of discrimination yourselves.

Sarah Palin is a much better choice for McCain than Romney ever was. I am a big
fan of Romney, but I think McCain's decision to pick Sarah was extremely
wise, because suddenly Barrack doesn't seem like the candidate of change
and suddenly Barrack's story isn't quite as intriguing.

kept bringing it back up.
It was Matt Lauer on the Today Show who brought up Mitt's religion when interviewing ex-Defense Secretary William Cohen and his wife, with Cohen's wife blasting the LDS Church.
It was comedian Bill Maher who brought up ridiculous and untrue claims about the LDS Church on his HBO program.
All three of these examples, O'Donnell, Lauer and Maher, have been watched time and time again on YouTube by the Mormon bashers. I should know, my LDS hating relatives send them to me time and time again.
The fact is, the press is the one who called Romney the Mormon candidate. It was the Evangelicals and left-wing religious haters that kept shoving Romney's religion in everyone's face.

Can't stand John McCain, and now that he has chosen his VP, he has sealed
the deal. He will NOT get my vote. I heard Obama talk at the Demo Convention
and it was good! I will put my trust in him this year.

It is hard to understand why anyone is surprised that McCain did not choose Mitt

McCain has recycled failed Bush/Cheney GOP Big Oil energy policy. He pays lip
service to alternatives.
Bush has spent very little on alternatives, and McCain will follow suit, this has been done and will be done to protect the interest of BIG OIL.
Every major problem facing our Nation could be solved or helped by an American Energy Revolution:
National Security (Reduce demand for oil take power from Middle East, Venezuela and Russia)
Economic Prosperity (Save $700 Billion sent to purchase foreign oil, create millions of high paying jobs that can only be done by someone living in the USA)
Environment (Eliminate pollutants and carbon emissions, saving the planet)
Save Precious Resource (Many chemicals, medicines, and advanced materials that will only be made from oil, are yet to be invented, we should save some oil for posterity)
JUST SAY NO TO BIG OIL! Kick the addiction, save our Nation, increase our Economy, save the Environment.

I am an LDS Republican and I am thrilled that Sarah Palin was put on the VP
ticket! Maybe for once we the country will have to face childrens issues
whenever another issue comes up. I am grateful there is still one woman in
politics who is truly anti abortion. Hurray for Sarah to make her views known
and the millions of women who are tired of the women who say they speak for us
and yet murder their own children. Partial birth abortion is the most cruel
form of killing newborns and that was brought in with the Clinton Administration
and Hillary supporting it. Having 5 children and one in the military will give
her a perspective that is missing in Washington. Health care issues will become
even more pronounced. We need a woman in politics who has our nations future
(our children) in the front of the discussion. This is a huge chance for more
balance of women's issues in Washington and the rest of the nation to
occur. And women's issues are in reality in ALL of our interests because
we bear the children (male and female) who run this country. Go Sarah!

i'd also like to know what all this stuff is about 8 miserable years. for the first six, we enjoyed fantastic economic growth. the past two (i should mention the dems controlled congress during this time) have been a little rocky but there is such an economic cycle, you know. why is it the gop's fault everyone got greedy and ran up the housing prices? why is it the gop's fault opec has always been greedy and has held production steady since 2004 - no wonder oil has gone up.
what were the democrats doing about either one of these? no one party is to blame. obama = jimmy carter. ask our enemies (read russia, n. korea and the middle east) who they want to see in the white house. that should make your choice very simple.

I don't want either candidate. I'm a republican and the only reason I
would have considered voting for McCain is if he had picked Romney as VP. Romney
should have been the republican candidate all along. He's well-qualified
and would actually do a good job. Under him, we might have actually seen our
country come back from the brink of economic disaster. I can't see that
there's much difference between McCain and Obama. They're both
liberals. I can't vote for Obama b/c his values are completely out of step
with mine. What choice am I left with? I'm disgusted.

add to the party. This will energise the Conservatives and Evangelicals. Mitt

The only way to keep Republicans from treating Mormons as second-class citizens
is for Church members to vote for Barack Obama and wake up the Republican
leadership. As long as they're sure of our vote, they won't change.
The day party leaders and the base realize that bad-mouthing Mormons will cost
them western states, they'll tone it down. Until then, and as long as
Mormons continue to vote overwhelmingly Republican, we can't expect things
to change.

I am absolutely convinced that a very large number of posts on these DesNews
message boards are from Democrats and / or rabid anti-LDS people who claim to be

The Savior on MANY occasions encourages us to forgive, for all of us but Christ have sinned. Would we also not wish for forgiveness, both from God but also our fellow man?
Don't get me wrong. I'd MUCH rather have Romney in than McCain, but McCain has often proven to be a man of integrity in many instances. Like it or not, it's come down to McCain or Obama.

youth, and was a gun grabber.

Sarah Palin should be home with her kids. Didn't she listen to the talk by
Sister Beck in Conference? Every self-respecting LDS woman will vote against
Sarah Palin and McCain for the sake of God's commandments about a
woman's place being in the home. This is no different than the issue of gay
marriage. The Church leaders have been clear about both of these topics. Gay
marriage is against the commandments of God and the Prophets, and so is a woman
leaving her children at home like Sarah Palin is doing. If you believe in the
Church, you have no choice but to vote against Sarah Palin and the Republicans
as well as vote against gay marriage. Do you really believe or not?

Don't be fooled says that "Obama/Biden stand for everything
that's NOT in harmony with LDS values." If the LDS Church's
values are Republican values then I am sorry for LDS people. But I don't
think that is the case. While Republicans take LDS people for granted and then
scorn them because they don't fit the narrow and bigoted view of
Christianity of the Southern Conservatives, the Democrats have a Mormon as their
Senate Majority Leader. Maybe LDS people should evaluate again who really
represents their values?

Actually these discussions should be less about a mormon not being selected and
more how our two party system is more concerned about their gaining of power. I
am beginning to doubt that either side is really concerned about us the people.
And we are supposed to be the power. It's time for a 3rd party. One based
on the Constitution. And as Latter Day Saints we should be politically active
on all fronts. It's my personal belief that when the subject of Latter Day
Saints saving the Constitution, it means all of us. All of us doing our part in
our local, State, and federal governments. Just my opinion.

Greetings from Alaska. Being LDS I know we all realize that this is Heavenly
Father's plan. HE has bigger things in store for Mr. Romney other than
being the side kick to John McCain. He needed to be top dog, but it wasn't
to be. Father will be utilizing Romney's talents in a much larger capacity.
Heaven only knows what that will be. Our Alaskan hearts are broken to think that
Father is taking Sarah away from us. But we know Father has work for her to do.
All will her fifth baby strapped to her hip. BTW. Sarah's already got some
of those good ole boys sitting in a federal prison on corruption charges in
Oregon. Senator Ted Stevens, the longest sitting senator in congress has a trial
which begins in a few weeks. I really can't wait to see what Heaven has in
store for you Mr. Romney. Best of luck.

Romney was the worst possible candidate for pres and vp... the only ppl who seem
to want romney to win are mormons, and if you put romneys lds beliefs aside,
youll find that hes just another corrupt republican politician(all pretty much
the same meaning).. but he lost period, Romney lost... thank god, get over it.

Anonymous above is correct. Nobody brought up religion until after Mitt did.

I can be a good LDS person and vote Obama for sure.
Some of the outside world think we are backward, backwood hicks because we have the habit of voting blindly.
We need to think of what would be best for the average working American. We need affordable health care, we need housing, and we need our debt to China to be delt with.
Most all Americans want to be personaly responsable for there lives, and their familys.
When the working people can't afford a house, and medical care, something has to change.
I figure the republicans had eight years to do something, and all they did was talk. Things got so bad that I want to jump to the dems. But it has got to be better than the place we are in now.

I truly feel sorry for you. In order to make your argument stick, you have to
live a parallel universe. One where everyone in the world is kind and loving,
except the Mormons. Of course, this is the world that many people I know live
in.

It's okay for the Westboro Baptists and other groups to scream at those who attended Gordon B. Hinckley's funeral, but it's wrong for the LDS Church to send out missionaries. Correct?

I knew Romney would not be chosen as soon as Biden was picked and the McCain camp started runing the adds with Biden criticizing Obama - No way were they going to run those ads and have the identical ads run in reverse. Case closed.
As for which ticket? Both have someone experienced, and both have a relative newcommer. Only diference is who is at the top of the ticket.

If only Romney was a woman or had an ethnic name and/or background he would be
on the ticket. This election year is all about each party trying to make
history. Screw the country and choosing the best person for the job. Both Dems
and Repubs just want to be the first to elect a black president or now a woman
vp...

I would have been surprised if Romney had been picked. The only place that
thought Romney would be picked was Utah. Utah always goes republican. Picking
Romney wouldn`t help McCain get elected he needed somebody that would help swing
some votes his way.

I think Romney's quest for the presidency is over. He presented his case,
the country listened, and they said "no thanks". I imagine Romney has
some wonderful talents, but the general public sees him as an opportunist that
says whatever he thinks is going to get him elected to the office he is at the
time seeking. He and his family of five sons have never served in the military,
and he is seen as a wealthy man completely out of touch with most of the people
he wants to lead. He risks the plight of Al Gore and others who crave the
presidency so much they can't just realize that this is beyond their reach.
Please get another passion.

Mitt not being selected as VP had nothing to do with his religion. I am so sick
of people in Utah using "that" as an excuse for his short comings.
Mitt flipped and flopped on every issue. People outside of Utah saw that
head-on. Check conservative websites in Massachusetts and one would expect
they'd be Romney supporters; they are not because he supported gay marriage
and abortion on demand. He supported these issues by the fact that he did
nothing to stop them. His actions are analogous to a teacher knowing about an
abused child and doing nothing about it. He was no "leader" in any
form or fashion.
I wouldn't have given McCain the time of day until yesterday. It is great to see a woman running for office, one who is not bitter, does not hate men, hunts, fishes, is pro-life, pro-family and loves (and "admires") her husband. She is 1 in a million. Her husband (and all men) should be glad to see her as perhaps our president one day. Don't be worried about her being a heartbeat away from the Presidency; she won't take any bull from anyone.

@9:45: I think 10:05 summed it up. All of those comments are religious in
nature. Secondly, the GOP tries to legislate moral issues and take away FREE
AGENCY, which is the central role of the Plan of Salvation. You can't teach
by legislation, but only by example. I am against abortion, against gay
marriages, etc, but I love my fellowmen enough to allow them that free agency, a
God-given gift. I do not have the right to take that away from them. Only God
can do that.
