Every season ticket holder in the state will watch this game with great enthusiasm. Get this season rolling. The wait is over. "Just Do It" Utes. I know you will bring home the victory.
Cougar Fan | 1:08 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Good luck today, Utes! MWC fans and most Cougar fans are pulling for you. I predict a close game, and hopefully the Utes can prevail. Good luck again.

Take them down Utah! Nothing would start the season off in a better way then to beat mighty Michigan.

It's about time we see supportive comments from our rivals. Thanks Cougar Fan. I know it goes both ways, but it does get tiring to view unnecessary cheap shots between Utah and BYU fans, especially when the BIG game is still three months away. From a die hard Ute fan, good luck BYU...until November.

It's got to really bug the Utah fans that so many BYU fans are cheering Utah on this weekend. LOL!!

Man it sure is tough to cheer for the Utes. I get the whole MWC thing and BCS implications, and how all that can help the Cougs...but I still don't know if I can do it. It'll be a game-time decision, but I have to admit I'm leaning blue right now.
darnreed | 7:15 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Go Utes!!! Represent the MWC and Utah football well. I am a Cougar fan, but would like nothing better than for the MWC as a whole to do well. There are many things that would have to fall in place, including avoiding injuries to key players during the season, but I can't think of anything that would do more for the MWC and sports in the State of Utah overall than for the BYU - Utah game to be two undefeated teams, playing for all the marbles. I feel like with what I have seen of the two programs this year that that is a very real possibility. Go Utes!!! - Go Cougars!!!
Who really knows? | 7:18 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Just because the yewts SAY they aren't going to be intimidated doesn't meant they aren't. Let's wait until they play before we delcare their level of intimidation.

Speak for yourself Cougar Fan.

When it comes to the Utes, I don't care one lick about stupid conference play. I hope they lose by 45 points. I hope they lose to Utah State. I hope they lose everygame.

And the nice thing is, its going to be a long day for them today. Michigan by 14.
Hotel... | 8:43 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
At a hotel 2 miles from the stadium. Every person walking around either has a Michigan or Utah shirt on. It's an amazing site. Should be a fun day!

"Obviously I wanted to play the 'Horns when they were on the schedule," Johnson said. "That was a big reason why I came here, too."

So what you're saying Brian, is you weren't good enough to be recruited by Texas. But you found a program that would take you that at least had a couple of games scheduled out in the future with them so you would get to play at their stadium at least one time in your life?

So it wasn't because of any great football tradition at Utah (which they don't have); it wasn't because of any great coaches (non-existent again except for Urban who quickly got the hell out of there); it wasn't because of any huge supportive fan base (see the answer to the first point in this paragraph); and it wasn't because of their prestigious Bachelor of Basket Weaving degree. It was because of the chance to play Texas.

Ok, I guess that makes sense. Now we get insight on the real reason why a recruit might pick the u. Thank you Brian, that was very helpful.
you betcha | 8:49 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
"I'm sure we'll be ready," Johnson said. "We've played in loud stadiums before."

Why yes you have, Brian, It happens every other year for the yoots when they play at BYU.

"We go in wanting to play our best football, just ready to compete," he said. "Of course, you always expect to win." - kwhit

And if they don't win the yewts will still say dumb stuff like "we were the better team!"

P.S. Kyle - what about your other quote that one loss doesn't ruin the whole season? Maybe you could build on these ideas for a team motto: "Quest To Convince Everyone We Were the Better Team".
Ernest T. Bass | 9:11 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Huh? Did somebody say we have a game today? Who we playing?
Scoobie | 9:11 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Big day today... and even many of us Cougars will be pulling for you. Great oppurtunity to show what the MWC is made of. Go out there and make that turf your own for 60 minutes. Good Luck and "Run Utes Run."
BYU Cougar | 9:16 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
"Utah is on the verge of a Top-25 ranking and could eventually climb into Bowl Championship Series contention with a victory at Ann Arbor." I see the point Dirk Facer is trying to make...but one win against Michigan means squat unless the Utes go undefeated this season. You can't have a repeat of last season where you beat someone like UCLA and then get creamed by a team like UNLV.

That said, best of luck to the Utes in this big game! I sincerely hope they win.
Go Utes!! | 9:21 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008

What an opportunity to make a statement about the quality of football here in the west.

Kevin of the Terrace | 10:06 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I think that most BYU fans pull for the Utes if the two teams are not playing for each other. Most of the cheap shots are just conjecture and fun or are from a small but vocal minority of Y fans who really do hate the Utes. On the other hand most Ute fans I think really do hate the Y and wish they lose no matter who they play. When I was growing up in SLC, most of my friends were not so much Ute fans but BYU haters. I think starting with the coach Mac years many of my friends started to truely become Ute fans. I myself am a Ute fan for 364 days of the year but when it comes down to the holy war I bleed blue. Good luck Utes, smack Michigan
big blue coug | 10:04 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I've finally seen the way. Utah is going to win and continue winning until they end up with the second BCS bowl birth in 5 years. BYU was so close, but they just can't finish it up. i sure wish I had transferred to Utah before my senior year. I would much rather cheer for a team that beats Michigan in the BIG HOUSE than a team that loses at home against a small school. Oh well, I have to live with my mistakes.
Am I allowed to cheer for the utes? my roommates say I can't cuz they don't sell any utah flags in Provo. I'm thinking about buying a BYU flag and erasing the B and Y but the color's all wrong. Oh well, that's the best I can do. GO UTES (I don't care if you read this Tom and Vick!!)

I'm also rooting for the yooties today. I'm rooting that things go for them like they did last year when they played UCLA and then UNLV the week after. But with only one exception: that they lose to Michigan. Other than that minor difference, yes, same as last year, why not.

Yep, sure...

On behalf of MWC fans everywhere, we expect to see the same Utah team that went scoreless agains UNLV,lost to AFA, and whose Defensive Head Coach allowed his team to be beat by the kewgs in the last minutes the past two years.

You are going to humiliate us. You are going to humilate us on National TV.

And what really hurts, is it is that Utah carries the banner for the MWC today. We have no choice on that. Sports anchors everywhere are going to be letting us know that the MWC is weak because you will be so outclassed against a focused team.

Once again, Utah and Kyle are going to embarass the state, and the conference, and there is nothing any of us can do but pull for Utah, and have them embarass us.

For one week all of us will begin to understand, to feel the "Yewt Feeling", and empathyze with Ute Fans everywhere, and feel the embarassment of wearing "Utah Red".
Halftime | 3:11 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Halftime and the UTES are dominating Michigan... penalties against Utah in the first half have been the only reason Michigan is even on the board. Who am I? A UTAH MAN for sure!!!
kewgs | 4:05 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
congratulations on your mediocrity kewgs! we may be inconsistent, we may have our ups and downs every season, but when we win, at least we win big. Ill take a smashing of ucla over an embarassment to unlv anytime.

utah is going to suprise some people this year. They just went to Michigan and beat a team looking for redemption with a star head coach. Nice job. Hopefully you guys beat BYU this season, this "perfection" crap is really annoying.
Michigan = garbage | 5:45 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Lets here it for the Utes scoring 25 for themselves and giving up about 20 for Michigan...

That game should have been won by 30, but ticky-tack penalties kept Michigan in it...

However, the Utes still looked great for playing the first game of the year in the Big House against the most storied program in the nation, even if they are "rebuilding"

If the Utes fix a couple things, which I am sure they will, like getting rid of the conservative play calling the 3rd quarter, and getting BJ to throw the ball out of bounds when he is out of the tackle box, we will be even more solid...

On another note, where is that Sam McGuffie lover that posts comments on here all the time...His one touchdown run was pretty sweet though...ha ha
Wow | 5:55 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Two mediocre teams seperted by 2 points. Both teams played like losers today, and I'm a Utah man. Not proud, just a Utah Man.

That's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back.

The Michigan team is in trouble. They are worse than last years team that lost to App State.

I hope Kyle gets his act together.
To Don't Embarass us... | 6:09 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Ready to eat these words?

"Sports anchors everywhere are going to be letting us know that the MWC is weak because you will be so outclassed against a focused team."

Oh wait since we won you won't be anywhere near this string will you?

Sure, it shouldn't have been as close as it was, but who walked almost at will from one end of the field to the other without much opposition from their opposition? Let's see... It WASN'T MICHIGAN was it?

That said let me second the cry to can Ludwig. Champions play to win, not to not lose Andy. The numbers speak for themselves. Michigan's D wasn't that much better in the second half. We should've slaughtered them - in spite of the sloppy, penalty riddled play.
Conservative Ute | 6:33 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Utah continues to rack up the best record against BCS teams by a non-BCS team. BYU continues to play programs that are one step above a community college flag footbal squad.

BYU reminds me of Mitt Romney - a big fish in a little pond who nobody wants playing for them, while Utah reminds me of Sarah Palin - a fine shark ready to take a fierce bite in the deep blue sea.
Ing | 7:20 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Don't get too comfortable up on that high horse, Conservative Ute.

I'm happy that the Utes won today--any MWC win against a BCS team is a good thing--but there's a whole season to go through. Nice as it is to beat an arrogant BCS team, the fact is that Michigan isn't at its best these days, and it's a game you should have won anyway. It would be a sad thing if this was the highlight of your season.
re:To Don't Embarass us... | 6:0 | 7:58 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Sure, I'll eat those words.

Michigan was playing probably the worst game of any team in the country today.

UNI would have smoked them big. I way overestimated Michigan.

As for Utah, pretty much what I expected, Jeckel and Hyde.

Utah played decent football at times, and played inept at others. They have such a long way to go if they want to finish higher than third in the MWC.

Kyle and Ludwig have once again proven they have learned nothing in the past years about making halftime adjustments, having the players prepared, and ready to go.

I will not eat the words that Utah embarassed themselves and the MWC in the game, because they did.

Two weak teams in a two point game that both teams should have lost.

re: Conservative ute | 10:00 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Oooo, nice job comparing the yoots to Sarah Palin. The yoot girliemen. Yeah, that seems to fit them. Maybe instead of yoots your nickname should now be the Sarahs. Beat your chest all you want for now about your measly 2 point win over a very weak Michigan team. The Sarahs are not going to beat BYU in November.
re: re: To Don't Embarass us... | 10:20 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
UNI would have smoked Michigan?

Only a TDS fan would make that claim, but I'm curious if one making that claim would dare to post his/her name. We Ute fans need to know WHO you are so we can call you out by name and laugh at you after every Utah and Michigan game.

There sure are alot of Jello Eaters making comments on Ute boards. Didn't BYU have a game today? Who did they play?
