We need to care, have more caring, for ALL good and positive things in the harsh, negative, and down-trodden world today.
"If there is anything of GOOD report....."
"and praiseworthy......"
Better an article about success and good doing,
than killings, theft, deception, etc.
God cares.
I care.
Thousands care.
Possibly million, even non-members care...even if just out of curiosity.
God bless you for your question, in our free world today, and may God, who CARES FOR YOU, fill your heart with healing, peace and renewed joy in your life.
"IF YOU PAN IN EVERY MANS HEART, YOU'LL FIND A CHILD OF GOD"
Love BACK to ALL today !
Keep your religion out of the public space and nobody will care! But as long as you stick your religion into our faces, we will continue to tell you what we think of it. That doesn't make us bigots or unfair or anything; it makes you stupid to continue the practice! As soon as you learn to shut up, then we will shut up about your religion.
Not only is obsession with national attention "desperate and pathetic" as Bob2 says, it can be a dangerous path if we deem such attention to be of any importance.
Our church does So Much for all folks around the world, and our leaders don't ask for headlines.
We try to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all. Some embrace it and some don't, and that is ok.
I always hear the comment of "...we do so much for folks around the world, and our leaders don't ask for headlines."
I would agree that the church does some good but not nearly as much as it is percieved by members. The percentage of charitable giving to the percentage of income is just horrible. It is a shameful drop in the bucket. If you look at charitable organizations and business charitable giving, the LDS church is not even close to being listed while there income rivals many corporations.
And as far as not asking for headlines well if you take the time a read stories about the LDS helping out, the story and victims are often overlooked and the focus is on all the greatness the LDS church is providing--is this what you call staying out of the limelight.
All is good when you see the goodness in others and share a smile and a warm heart. But make sure you try to get the person you are smiling at to take the missionary discussion. Have a warm heart toward them as long as they are willing to listen to the missionaries. After that, just ignore them. Move on to other recruits.
Thanks, Anonymous | 11:16. Your words are inspirational.
You sure seem to be misled by your thinking. The LDS church does a heck of a lot more than you think. It is not always published as to what humanitarian aide we are giving to others, and they don't ask your religion, or your income status, they ask what do you need.
They give aide to the needy, and that aide is no better or worse than any other church, organization or company. It is ok how you feel about the church's aide, they just want to help. The percentage of giving is not the issue at hand, we still enjoy hearing about LDS members in the news here in CA. Have a great weekend.
I grew up in Ca and moved to Utah. Not because I wanted to be closer to the church but because of circumstances. I realize "Utah Mormons" do push and can be a pain in the butt. Not all Mormons are like that and you shouldn't judge by what a "handful" of Mormons do. Everyone is different and responds in the own way and most of them mean well. I agree with everyone else, if you hate Mormons so bad why read the Deseret News. If you hate your "Utah Mormon Neighbors" so much than move out of Utah. You would fit in perfectly in CA.
Have you ever been to a Bishop's Storehouse? It's almost like a regular grocery store. All the services are provided by volunteers. I worked at the cannery for two years as a volunteer. That added up to a lot of hours.
Have you ever been to the Humanitarian Services building where members donate many hours putting together kits...for new mothers, for schoolchildren, for those in need in countries where there are great need. (Add to that the fact that these supplies are donated by members.) The Church does so much good and yet there are those who criticize and name-call without any regard for us. I'm very tired of all you nay-sayers. When you have donated as much time and money as I have to good causes (not just Church related, then perhaps I'll listen to you.) Until then, just keep your criticisms to yourselves, please.
I do have a problem with people making false statements, accusations and stereotypes about my faith.
Members of any faith or organization have the responsibility to speak up and ensure they are not misrepresented or slandered.
Perhaps you have that mixed up with another Church, perhaps yours?
Come and join us; get happy, like we LDS are!
Bet you wouldn't be so quick to falsefully and hatefully judge if your little hiney needed some help.
Get out there and do something for someone else!
What's even funnier is when LDS battle with LDS. Member against member, on all these posts--hee hee hee! And even funnier when y'all call each other anti's because, each of you has a different point of view. Are we a peculiar people or just a bunch of funny grumblers?
I'm not sure why every week there are a bunch of posts in here from Mormon-haters, why even waste your time? I don't think I've ever checked out Catholic Times or Evangelist Times - it's not really any of my business and my opinion would come from ignorance and probably not mean much to the regular readers.
If you mean some obscure account in the diary of an anti-Mormon from 150 years ago, WHO CARES? They were liars in life, why should it be any different in death? Just because one person with a grudge wrote a one-sided account a zillion years ago doesn't make it true, folks.
No need to white wash it when it's fiction.
I don't think others should critisize either, but I do agree that the LDS church thinks it has better "truth" than others. That needs to change because it will not help your image. What helps is giving without expecting anything in return. I have met members of the LDS church who do this (as well as other churches). We need more people in the LDS church to do this in the world...acceptance of people for who they are unconditionally. I'm sure that once people feel this acceptance they will contact you if interested. And if they're not interested you should love and accept them just the same.
For those that think this is watered down or untrue statements, remember this. You write to balance things out per your perspective. Do we not have the right to do that too? I remember in the late 70's seeing the anti-mormon meetins and pamplets. We are just catching up.
For the untrue statements I have this to say. Did you see the "History Detective's" story on the book about Polygamy? The first few pages talked about how Joseph was killed by being shot off of a horse. Quite false. I have seen articles quoted by you that are just as wrong on basic history as this. You claim that you have the "truth" and use some kind of logic to try and convince others using these articles. Most of my comments are just corrections of things I see are incorrectly worded. I also put in a different perspective to give balance. Again, is that not just what you are doing? Do I not have that right?

Why is this issue something anyone should be concerned about? If a person is interesting or newsworthy, feature them, their paticular religion, what does that have to do with anything?
