Listen...
I am making the prediction that John is ALREADY scared he made the wrong decision (read his body language and you can see it) and that in the next few weeks, Palin will withdraw from the nomination and say that her downs' syndrome baby and her other children are more important, thereby honoring John's request for her to bow out, hoping we will believe it was her decision! You just watch...it's gonna happen! Man, he screwed up BAD!!

I am a DEMOCRAT by heart, but seeing Gov. Sarah Palin on TV this morning made me so inquisitive and curios about knowing more what this woman has to offer. She definitely has a great appeal to the masses, as an average person, from a PTA active leader and a Sports Achorage Reporter, a woman with strong belief to her principles and righteousness, a woman with grace and enforced feminity yet so STERN and could be BLUNT and has the VOICE to share her convictions....Good for McCain!...this election is just getting more INTERESTING!!! Let's all track for more UPDATES and lets all be INVOLVED in what is right and our childrens future!!! History REPEATS itself..Just like how a FACE could launched a thousand ships! The feminine use of appearances and the masculine use of language-would often cross gender lines...Over the years, through much cleverness and creativity,WOMEN invented a way of turning the dynamic around, creating a more lasting and effective form of power...Great MINDS behind SUBTLETY and FRAGILITY!!!

Well, no one can accuse John of litism on this one. Tokenism is a real possibility, because no matter how you stroke her rocket-like rise from the U of I(da-ho),"Journalism"/ Ms. Congeniality to mayor of a town of 6,000, to governor of our 47th most populous state for 1/2 term, there is a long list of actually qualified, experienced, vetted women even amongst the Republicans that come before her judged on merit.

But the real intriguing question to me is how her Evangelical/Pentecostal pedigree and Christian principals of submission to the headship of her husband will play out in the event of her becoming the Prez. People worried that JFK would have to ask the Pope for permission, but this is much closer to home. And then there's the problem of what this will do to all the conservative Christians that love the idea of her politics but hate the idea that it would be a woman wielding actual power. Stay tuned!
Missouri Conservative | 11:37 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Solid choice. You can tell the Dems are worried by all these comments about her being a mayor. Excuse me, but she is an executive, Governor of Alaska. She also knows business, meeting payroll, dumping governor perks like limo service for regular cars.

Let's see Obama executive experience is zilch. He was however a community activist! That is a unbelievable qualification. How could anyone ignore that humongous accomplishment. Obama should have picked William Ayers, so that if BO can't wreck our country enough, he can have his buddy Bill finish blowing it up.

I am no McCain lover, but the ticket difference is huge.
If only... | 12:23 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
If she could dump McCain and run on her own (for President) she'd have my vote.

I can't vote the Marxist ticket (Obama)
Or the Democratic ticket (McCain)
He is a Democrat in the sense of what Democrats were 30 years ago.

So that leaves me looking for a true conservative...

JTM | 12:57 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Can we put this whole "experience" argument to bed now? What tangible benefit does experience have? Good decision making. Does Obama make good decisions? yes. Does Palin? Looks like it to me. So there- experience doesn't matter.
I like what I've seen of Palin so far. Looks like she's a great governor for Alaska. Let's be honest, though- Alaska has about as many people as SL County. Her education is not impressive. Obama has organized an impressive, massive presidential campaign, which I think should count when measuring executive ability. So really, I don't think she has more executive ability than Obama.
I like Palin, I don't care for McCain, but I don't hate him either. I think our country is healthiest when the power shifts often. We've had a Republican president for 8 years, that's enough for now. It's also time to switch things up, and take a chance on something different. That's why I'm going for Obama.

Great Choice. Great choice.
She is not a salesman, not like most of the politicians.
She is actually hands on, managed the City, managed the State.
She does not play games. She is clears on her positions and issues.
She is ethical.
And she looks healthy and good looking.
She represents Americans.
And woman could be a better manager.

I must say I am very impressed. No matter how you spin it, a mother of 5 is going to keep domestic policies in mind most of the time. She has great credentials, and looks like the only things McCain is weak on, she comes up aces. I think they will bring a great balance to the offices.
platosrep | 2:01 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I am continually amazed at the ignorance of the voting populace in this country. After reading several comments regarding the selection of this Gov. from Alaska who in their right mind could possibly vote for McCain?! Idiots!
Just one point needs to be made, what if old John dies? Yes, the leader of the free world is a graduate from the U of Idaho and shes such a great mother. What is the GOP thinking? Pandering to a bunch of frustrated women in the democratic party is no way to garner votes. I am sure Mitt, Rudy, and even Joe Liberman are huddled in the corner crying themselves to sleep right now.
Larry Phillips | 3:04 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I believe Senator McCain has made a billant choice. I don't think Democrats (I was one for majority of my voting life) and many others understand how many AMericans are God -Fearing, Pro-Life, Anti Gay, For Strong Defense, Family Values, Don't Believe in Global Warming as man made etc. I've been so excited today.
She is so vibrant, energetic, intelligent, genuine and loaded with common sense and confidence. I expect Joe Biden should be more concerned about her than she him. I'm not a real Senator McCain fan but he has give me and millions of us renewed excitement about this campaign. American is going to be surprised by Sarah Palin...she is the real deal...and she is on our side!
American | 3:24 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
As a mother of five my be she will convince McCain that sending your children to battle is not an easy thing to do.
If the war continues the draft might go into affect and McCain wants to win the war at any cost
Joyce Welsh | 4:12 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Sarah P. is nothing more than a small town mayor and a "hockey mom." It appears from resume that there's no longevity in any of her career choices other than mayor and this makes her qualified to run the country should something happen to McCain...... I don't think so!!

Sarah P. is fickle!! She needs to stay in Alaska and take care of her infant Down's child!
nancy | 5:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Boy if we could play hockey, fish or moose hunt instead of negotiating with other countries she would be the one.

However, going to Harvard and working from graduation to help people is appropriate on the job training. I am not impressed than graduating from Utah, she took about 20 years to become a small town mayor.

This is really a scary.....
Palin not afraid | 5:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Besides having more high level experience and more accomplishments in her career than Obama(still waiting to hear one thing that Obama has actually accomplished), she is not afraid to go up against anyone to fight for what needs to be done for the people she represents. Too bad there aren't more elected officials who will fight for the right.
re: JTM | 6:12 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
JTM,
Your reasoning doesn't make sense. A vote should be cast for the person who you think best represents your ideas or at least who you think is going to do the best job for America. Voting for someone just because it would be a change in the party occupying the oval office is a blind vote. Please look at the issues and see who best represents you, be it democrat or republican. McCain has not agreed with Bush and my guess is that he is bent on changing the way Washington is being run, not just in the oval office but in Congress as well. Too much partisanship is taking place instead of dealing with the important issues we are facing today and will face in the future. We should start with a comprehensive energy plan immediately, before a new president is even elected. Once again, please look at the issues and where each candidate stands instead of casting a blind vote.
troxellodu | 6:12 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I want the people who run our government to be smarter than me. A lot smarter than me. McCain and Palin? One can't count (7 Houses)and one went to the University of Idaho. Hmmm..........
Alaskan from Utah | 6:40 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
It seems a lot of people are projecting whatever they want onto the blank screen that is Sarah Palin. She has been my governor for two years and while she's done a decent job, she probably gets more credit than she deserves. I am bothered by her preferential treatment of TransCanada during the recent bidding process on Alaska's natural gas pipeline; as a result, a foreign country will benefit from a lot of jobs and infrastructure that we could have kept in the US. Also, at a time when Alaska is taking in record oil taxes but experiencing astronomical energy costs, Palin cut funding for alternative energy research. She is a fine person, certainly free from corruption, but at the end of the day she does not represent the change America needs.
Skip H | 8:51 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I love how the only thing the right-wingers can say is 'she has more experience than Obama'. Not really kids. That said, brilliant choice MoGain. The dementia is setting in. The ONLY reason she was selected (besides MoGain's blatant attempt to score votes with Billary supporters) is because of her time working for Big Oil. That's all the experience she needs to work for the neo-con Repub faction who has fleeced the common man for trillions the past 8 years. I know Obama won't win this sheep-laden state, but hopefully the rest of the country will realize MoGain is insane and nothing more than a Bush crony.
Robert Prulletti | 8:52 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
GREAT SELECTION !! It is Time That the USA matures and Accepts the idea that some women are much superior than men.
Look around...Chile> Michelle Bachelet; Argentina>
Christina Fernandez, [Before: Margareth Thatcher in England, Golda Meir in Israel, Indyra Ghandi in
India, and the last Ms. Bhutto].
Sarah Palin seems not to be a conventional politician !!! [Not an Egomaniac as Obama! Thanks God !!!] Let's hope SHE is accepted by the 'Macho' oriented U.S. political establishment !!! [What
a different with the brainless Nancy Pelosi].
Really, GOD BLESS AMERICA, INDEED!!!
Marie Hafen | 8:54 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
It's obvious that Sarah Palin has made personal choices to stand for what's right! Her competitive nature and her determination to recognize right from wrong is refreshing! She actually has "integrity"! The very stuff our founding father's built this nation on. She proudly under-stands the constitution and the moral and ethical basis which it stands for. These sound principles are what will save America (not false promises and foolish rhetoric). The American people will be a part of America reclaiming itself! That's true history in the making! This also shows the integrity of John McCain. If you take the time to read his remarkable history and where he's (really) coming from (and not just the short snips from the news), you will be amazed at his diligence in taking the time to be keenly objective, yet honestly forthright in his decision making. He's an outstanding man and a tremendous leader. Instead of basing your opinions on simple news stories, take the time to ponder his decision making policies, you will be very, very impressed!
jim lowery | 9:02 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
A real choice, about experience more executive experience (mayor, governor, bussiness owner, chairwoman of the alaska oil and gas consevation commission) than Obama.Yes real experience, a real choice.

University of Idaho? Good grief, it's tougher to graduate from East High!

Do some of you really believe that a woman who advocates oil drilling and eats moose meat is going to draw Hillary's supporters?

On the experience issue: Running an office and staff as a member of the U.S. Senate doesn't count as executive experience, but running a small business and serving as a mayor over a city of 7,000 does? What planet are you people from?

The only problem Biden will have is if she cries during the debates. It would make him look like a bully.

McCain's another Nixon | 9:32 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
This is like the appointment of Gerald Ford as Vice President to Richard Nixon. It surprised the nation to pick such an unknown. However, at least Ford could boast a resume that included the University of Michigan and Yale Law School, as well as lots of experience in the Congress. Palin pales by comparison.
Frank | 9:33 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
As VP, she would look cute in black at all the funerals.

If she becomes President, can anyone seriously see her standing up to leaders like Putin? Her son is in the army... Can a mother order her son into combat? Can she be trusted even guiding America's energy policy?

McCain has shot himself in the foot. She will be the G. Ferraro of the Republican party.

Unbelievable! Does he think he will get the women's vote with this move? It's insulting to think that someone actually believes that this uneducated, inexperienced hockey mom can be compared to Hillary. Beauty contest queen no less!!
Barb | 9:46 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
As an independent I am so EXCITED to have a women on the ticket. Not only is she the only person on the ticket outside of Washington, she has strong principals and beliefs and comes from the "real" working world. People can relate to her. In terms of experience, she has more than Obama. She is the Governor of Alaska which gives her experience in all aspects of government including making decisions that she has to be held accountable for. She doesn't have the luxury of just showing up for a vote like Obama. She can't simply claim, "I voted against it" without solving the problem. Obama is full of rhetoric and short on solutions. In fact he has never vetoed anything and has spent most of his time in the Sentate campaigning. Palin has solved real life problems at the government level. Also she isn't first on the ticket like Obama. For what her opponets claim she lacks in experience she will gain quickly as VP. We can't say that about Obama. She is the right person at the right time. McCain will benefit from a women's perspective. She is an excellent choice.
Anonymous | 9:47 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
An evangelical? If she gets in, the Lord really will need to help us. I hope she never gets close to the nukes.

For crying out loud her qualifications are what, being in the PTA and a small town mayor (please)...

If we need some stop sign ordinances passed I'll be sure to call her.

I can just imagine the GOP puppet masters laughing out loud about the prospect of foisting another dimwit lightweight onto the country.

I think he shot himself in the foot. With an unknown he probably doesn't have a chance. He would have done better to have Hillary switch parties and chose her.
ST. GEORGE | 10:46 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
McCain has recycled failed Bush/Cheney GOP Big Oil energy policy. He pays lip service to alternatives.

Bush has spent very little on alternatives, and McCain will follow suit, this has been done and will be done to protect the interest of BIG OIL.

Every major problem facing our Nation could be solved or helped by an American Energy Revolution:

National Security (Reduce demand for oil take power from Middle East, Venezuela and Russia)

Economic Prosperity (Save $700 Billion sent to purchase foreign oil, create millions of high paying jobs that can only be done by someone living in the USA)

Environment (Eliminate pollutants and carbon emissions, saving the planet)

Save Precious Resource (Many chemicals, medicines, and advanced materials that will only be made from oil, are yet to be invented, we should save some oil for posterity)

JUST SAY NO TO BIG OIL! Kick the addiction, save our Nation, increase our Economy, save the Environment.

VOTE ONLY FOR THOSE WHO PLEDGE TO END THE OIL BASED ECONOMY.

ONLY THOSE WHO WILL INVEST IN THE AMERICAN ENERGY REVOLUTION.

This is the beginning of the end, for the McCain presidential effort. He has proven with this selection, that he is a sell-out, and will do ANYTHING to be elected. A deperate move, by a desperate man. How sad!

UNFORTUNATELY, MANY PEOPLE HAS BEEN SUPPORTING NOT
A WELL INTENSIONED CANDIDATE. THE MORE OBAMA TALKS, THE MORE HIS 'PROMISES' WILL EXPOSED HIS
ANTI 'CAPITALIST SYSTEM' SENTIMENT. TAXING PEOPLE
THAT...CREATES JOBS...]THE RICH, THE ENTREPRENEURS,
IS THE SOLUTION??? PLEASE, WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
HIS APPROACHES ARE SENSELESS AND DANGEROUS !!!
OBAMA IS A GOOD SALEMAN, NO QUESTIONS. BUT NOT A
PERSON AMERICA NEEDS TO SOLVE ANY PROBLEM.
GREAT RESPECT FOR DEMOCRATS, BUT SOMEBODY SHOULD
STAND AND BRING 'LIGHT' TO THE ELECTORATE AND
ANALIZE 'SERIOUSLY' HIS IDEAS, PROPOSALS, PLANS...
[HE SOUNDS LIKE A 'SUPERMAN' NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
FOR HIS APPROACHES]. HE IS VERY DISTANT FROM THE
REALITY OF TODAY'S WORLD] SURE, HE WILL FIND

WHAT A PITTY SOME PEOPLE ARE FOOLED BY THIS LOW

People discuss McCain's age, and what would happen if he died...WELL, what if Obama died, God forbid, and OLD Joe took over? What's the difference?...a few years is all. Too many "what if's"...At this point, I haven't made up my mind which party will get my vote. In closing, vote with your heart and vote with your head. God bless America.

So far, I am more interested in Sarah Palin as a candidate than in all three of the others combined (McCain, Obama and Biden). I encourage all to find out for themselves (it actually takes a little effort) what each candidate stands for. I am still looking seriously at the Constitution Party. I will finally vote for the ticket that actually stands up for what I believe in. Palin makes McCain a little more palatable, but I think I still prefer someone who stands outside the "Republicrat" two-party (no one else need apply) system. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils. I will not vote for any evil. I can't justify doing so to my self, my children or my God.
Karen in OK | 12:38 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Was not on board with McCain, but I am so excited now I can't stop jumping up and down. This race was absolutely HO HUM until now.
NObama is a Marxist/socialist who would try to drag this WONDERFUL REPUBLIC....yes remember, and to the "REPUBLIC" for which it stands, down to the LOWEST common denominator.
Sarah Palin will be a go getter, I feel better all ready.
Can't wait to hear her debate OLD JOE, his head will spin.

Give the Lady a break---anyone who goes from Sara-cuda (as a point guard)in high school to Miss Congeniality, has a range that we could use. With her experience as Head of the Alaska Guard she has more military experience than NoBama does.

Who is it that has the experience? Sarah Palin has successfully fought against corruption and wasteful government spending. Obama and Biden have had no experience fighting corruption and government waste. Even one year of doing right trumps decades of doing nothing. Go Sarah!

I think it is wonderful that a woman is in such an important position as hers but, on the hand, what about her children. No doubt that this role will take away her time with them. Espcecially the newborn with Down Syndrome. He needs her more than the county does.
senior citizen | 2:36 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I can't believe people think she has more experience than Obama,if the war continues maybe she will be okay with her hunting skills we can send her to Iraq and maybe she can win the war or does she only like to get wolves & polar bears? people have to be senile to think she can ber VP! I think she is a slap in the face to Hillary.
Lara | 2:50 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I am saddened by McCain's pick. As a 33 female- who worked my but through law school, I can say that the University of Idaho Journalism major is not prepared to lead this country.

Hooray for being a woman, yes. And I have no doubt about her intelligence and I am sure she is very tough- Carrying guns, and all. But I am incredibly insulted that McCain would think that the American public is so stupid that we can be appeased by the fact that she is young,a mother, tough, etc. SHE IS NOT HIGHLY EDUCATED IN REGARDS TO THE FUNDAMENTALS OF LAW. SHE HAS NOT SERVED IN THE MILITARY, FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Has she even stepped off American land?

Maybe she would make a great house mother in the white house or maybe she could write some nice articles about politics- but PLEASE do not put this woman in a situation in which it is more than 75% likely (thinks statistics, my friends- in regard to McCain's age) she will have to step in to run this country.
All due respect Mrs. Sarah Palin- but you are not prepared to lead this country, regardless of how likable you are.
Rob | 3:54 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Lara...I appreciate your comments, but unless I was mistaken, Sarah Palin is running for VICE President. Let's see - Barack Obama = no military service. John McCain = 25 years of experience, awarded: Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, and Distinguished Flying Cross.

As for the requirement of being a lawyer, well...who likes lawyers? The government is full of lawyers who do nothing but pontificate just to hear themselves speak.

I like her passion, values, and her desire to fight corruption and bring reform - Even to her OWN party. Giver her a chance.
