I would urge people to please not blame Evangelical Christians for Mitt
Romney's predicament. They don't vote as an entire bloc. There are
lots of complexities, nuances and individualities among Evangelicals. Heck, they
don't even belong to the same church. There were a lot of reasons Romney
didn't make it. True, religious persecution contributed on some level. So
did the abilities of other candidates, relationship between Romney and McCain
and even personality that Romney projected.

I would have preferred Romney because I believe he cares so much about this
Country that he has willing to spend his time and resources to Elect John Mc
Cain even though he done everything he could to derail Romney from getting the
Nomination. He didn�t work alone Huckabee was by his side
all the way. I do like Mc Cains choice because I heard her acceptance speech. I
think she is serious about making big changes in Washington. Palin Has got it
all together. She is a real conservative and John Mc Cain better be serious
about straighten out Washington or he will have a real fighter on his Tail.

All you proud liberals dissing a woman because she's conservative are only
betraying your ignorance. Gov. Sarah Palin has more years of executive
experience at all levels than Barack Obama. She has as much foreign policy
experience as Barack Obama -- which is precious little, unless you count her
awareness of international energy issues, which is more than Barack can offer.
And if you want true change in Washington, she's more of a change agent
that Barack/Biden. But keep ridiculing her, and do it even more openly, because
you'll only be convincing the independent voters in the country that
she's the right choice. Democrat ideals were displayed in all their ugly
candor today in the response to this fine woman.

Wow...reading through these comments makes me laugh. You Obamanites ought to

You Mittonites ought to think twice. Mitt was and is a pragmatic utilitarian. That means he applies an economic cost-benefit analysis to everything he does. That is why he flipped and flopped on key policy issues depending on the particular race. That is why his commitment to the implications of his (and my) religious convictions has been so weak at times.
If Mitt had solid conservative convictions and principles, he would have been a much more believable and attractive candidate...but not as attractive as Palin.
And yes I am a solid LDS member, graduate of BYU as well as of Mitt's eastern school. I know Mitt and respect him for what he has accomplished, including his sacrifices to support McCain.
But McCain hit the ball completely out of the park today!!! (And Mitt could learn a lesson from the complete commitment to solid conservative principles shown by Palin).

Palin's a great choice. I think she'll do better nationally than
Romney. Palin has more experience than Obama to boot. Every interview

McCain just made the most stupid decision of his life. I am a working mother
with healthy children. It's hard enough to pull everything together and
keep on top of all I have to do. Honestly, how can a mother with a handicapped
child and 4 other children have time to run a country? When all is said and
done, a mother will always put her children above her job. If she had to take
over the job of president, her home situation would precede any matters of
state. Get real McCain. You just lost the election. I'll write in Mitt
Romney. He's the only one qualified to run the country.

Give it a rest. I'm as Pro Life as they come - and this is the same tripe
abortion advocates always trot out. Nobody is ever going to persecute or
prosecute a woman for having an abortion. But Roe vs. Wade took a states issue
and forced choice down everybody's throat. Supposedly this was going to
make us all agree - do you see anybody agreeing yet? At best, all that might
happen is that a conservative SCOTUS judge or 2 might get appointed, who might
overturn Roe vs. Wade. Which would turn the issue back to the states where it
belongs in the first place. Want an abortion then? States where the majority
don't like abortion will pass restrictions - with exceptions for rape,
incest, life/health of the mother, and terminal defects. If you want it for
your personal convenience/back up birth control then yes you might have to cross
a state line for it.
Think of it this way - we're missing tens of millions of Americans who were aborted - over half of whom would have been Democrats, since they are more likely to get abortions. Sort of shot yourselves in the foot 30 years ago...

In Alaska, more often than not, people of slight talent rise quickly to the top
... It is a beautiful, fascinating state of which I have fond memories, but it
is not a crucible that produces political greatness ... Gov. Palin would have
not made it out of the mayorship in most other places ... She might be a nice
person, but she knows nothing that someone leading this country needs to know
... Face it, the fact that McCain chose her only shows that he is no longer
capable of making reasonable choices ... He should never be allowed to be
president.

And Delaware has how many electorial votes? Biden is Senator of a state that is
ONE THIRD the size of the COUNTY I live in. Alaska is a big state with many
complicated issues for a Governor to deal with.

I may be LDS, but I'm glad Romney isn't on the ticket. He doesn't need to be connected with McCain, whom I like only very slightly more than George Bush--which is to say NOT MUCH!

Sarah Palin is a refreshing choice, relatively untouched by the corruption of
Washington and big govrernment. She has no favors to pay to help corrupt
legislators. She is bright and clear-thinking. She has a lot to learn, but is
a quick learner and comes accross as totallyy genuine. An American with no
baggage to carry around and slwow her down. She is entergetic and committed to
a government that is neither selfish, conceited nor corrupt. Governor Palin is
exactley what we need
at this juncture of history. Yes, experience counts if it's based on correct principles, if not it's a liability both on the domestic and international fronts. Additionally she is there to serve the nation and not her own ego.

political aspirations, Huntsman made a conscious choice to follow a tragjectory
of moderate to liberal. In short, he sold his political soul an abandoned

that McCain chose this woman as his VP nominee. Wow. I do not want some Idaho

However, that is not the case. McCain knew, because of all the stink in the media over Romney during the primaries (agree with it or not, it was primarily over Romney's religion) that he (McCain) would experience considerable backlash for picking Romney. (Picture Huckabee making phone calls to friends pleading with them not to trust a Mormon while publicly claiming he supported McCain 100%).
Thus, it seems the realities of the situation dictated that the "best qualified" was not the best, given the situation. Sad.
I will say that tactically speaking, McCain definitely pulled a rabit out of his hat.

- female
- married
- a parent (with kids still at home!)
- a state governor
- staunchly conservative (to include firmly pro-life)
- from a SOLID middle-class background
- a no-kidding NRA member
- a Washington outsider who oozes "change"
Some Dems will try to laugh and pass her off as a silly lightweight but intelligent Dems know McCain just landed a half-dozen violent bashes to their face.

I love blog comments almost more than the comics now because of the immensely
vast difference of opinions. If I was ever in a room full of all these people
listening to all their opinions shouted out at once, I think my head would
explode.

McCain proved what a "wiesel" he really is how he used and treated
Romney and he doesn't even deserve to be on this ticket in an comparison.
He can't write his own speech or give anything inspiring. How many feel
HOPE from him? I'm writing in Mitt as I can't throw my vote to him on
top of the ticket. I really can't and won't. Oh well - life goes on
and the economy goes down and nothing will get done. CHANGE won't happen
cause Mitt was the only one in there who stood for CHANGE! The others are part
of the problem and the status quo and those children need their mom more than

I don't know what Cabinet position is responsible for growing our nation's wealth and using our money responsibly, but if Mitt can't be VP, I'd say our nation puts him there.

So McCain our great leader could have chosen Mitt: who has governed a state 4
years and actually made HUGE changes in comparison - overturned a huge deficit
plus gave them money (they are in a big deficit again I heard). He made
miracles happen for our US Olympics and made Utah money (without taking anything
in return), he has experience in actually HAVING a plan and executing HEALTH
CARE in his state, an amazing BUSINESSMAN, a CEO which incredible ability to
convey ideas and motivate people (MILLIONS voted for him), has a great family
and great family values, Stands for LIFE (it's in his heart and
"vote" as he was tested on it and proved himself), could have
respectively brought intellect and articulacy to this office and credibility
(even other countries would have respected and listened to him), brilliant in
actually CHANGING "BIG" things, not just talking about it, and

for him, and many more. What bad judgement McCain made for politics over the
love of country! Tha't a maverik? I won't vote Obama as they are so

How could he choose Palin, I mean, I enjoyed him as a member of Monty Python and
his travel documentaries, but he is such a silly man. I would be much more

So are you saying that while Palin was Governor of Alaska, because she
personally is against abortion, she made it illegal? As vice-president, she
couldn't even do such a thing. Apparently only the Supreme Court can make
such a ruling and they already made abortion legal long ago. George Bush is
personally against abortion, yet abortion remains safe and legal.
