McCain chooses Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as running mate

Mitt like Utah Mormons have no other viable options. You must stay with the GOP even if you get no respect in return.
You aren't doing too well with gay marriage in California. Fifty-four percent are against prop 8. Maybe politics isn't you real calling.
But guess what, I think I do a pretty good job, despite my inexperience. I was hired on my "potential". That is what we are doing here - looking to hire someone on potential, not experience.
I guarantee you that if you ask any former President, they would tell you that nothing can prepare you for the job. And the right person 40 yrs ago may not posses the necessary traits to do the job today.
In my business, I would hire an Idaho potato farmer over someone with experience any day - because of their character, integrity and work ethic.
I don't see how Ms. Palin's inexperience is any more relevant than anyone else. If you are looking for a change from politics as we know it, she seems like the best bet.
When Obama chose Biden as a running mate, it left the door open for McCain to choose a non-traditional VP.
Palin is a good choice. First, she wont alienate the base. The first thing to consider when choosing a running mate is first, do no harm. Palin will looks good to women and young people, a demographic that the Republicans have had a hard time winning in the past. She is also a fresh face in politics, not the same old tired old men. McCain needs to look more progressive than previous Republican candidates and this choice helps in that.
The unknown is how she will do in debates. If she is good, this is a great choice. If she isnt, it might be a bad choice.
As far as experience, she at least has run a state. Obama hasnt run anything except a campaign.
I'll never understand why people vote based on looks.
And I'll never understand why anti-Mormons waste so much of their time bad-mouthing people on here this news site. If you can't stand Mormons so much, then why are you living in Utah and reading the Deseret News? Go somewhere else! Seriously, it gets so old. It's like the same 10 people have nothing better to do than wait for articles like this to come out just so they can make a few jabs. You could be doing a lot more with your life.
This once again leads me to believe the Mitt was turned down because of his religion. He's a great leader, executive, and human being. Why McCain turned him down is simple. The NATIONAL GOP goes not like Mormons. The Conservative/religious right does not like Mormons.
I'm feeling very alone today in my faith.
It is not my opinion, but definately theirs. Only by winning enough votes in the the primary would Romney have gotten the nomination. That failed. The LDS organization and support and money is wanted, but not head of the party by the southern baptists.

I couldn't put this book down. As a life-long New York Democrat, I thought I was leading-edge sensitive to women's issues. But couched in one of the most exciting pieces of technology fiction I've ever read is a disturbing spiritual gem: Women could well be the intended solution to all the worlds problems.
Not all women, of course. We can hope for the best. And maybe Rick can finish his sequenl.
Let's be realistic here too. Both parties have caused some huge problems that need fixing. We're all in this together so quit the finger pointing. Last time I checked the democrats gave us some pretty nasty problems too.
What a wonderful sentiment to express in the heat of the battle. I'm sure hundreds more will weigh in today with their thoughts. No matter what they write you win the prize for the most thoughtful and generous comment of the day.
PS - It's absolute hipocrisy for liberals to sing the anthem of change so loudly and then turn to criticize McCain for attempting to "change" things up with a female running mate. Weren't liberals supposed to be known for their non-racist/non-sexist viewpoints? I guess actions speak louder than words....
Vote McCain/Palin 2008!!
Where is Colin Powell when we need him?
Sarah Palin is a brilliant pick for many reasons.
Taxing, spending and growing the government machine is not the solution to our country's problems.
Go McCain / Palin
On the McCain ticket, we have an experienced statesman for president and an up-and-coming politician for vice president. As VP, Sarah Palin will get to advise John McCain and be an apprentice while having little real power to make mistakes.
On the Obama ticket, we have the exact opposite. Obama is very eloquent but doesn't have enough experience. Biden has more experience, but he would not be the one with the power to goof things up.
If you're on a bus whose brakes have failed, who do you want driving? A 30-year veteran professional driver? Or an intern who has done lots of research and public speaking on bus driving? I'll take the veteran.
Economic experience Obama/Palin tied.
True Washington outsider--Palin in a landslide.
True history of reform--Palin in a landslike.
Able to relate to the common person--Palin in a landslide.
Palin and Obama have very similar resumes and Dems complain that she would be a "heartbeat" from the presidency. Problem is that with Obama as the lead dog, he would be the president. I've always said that nothing could get me to vote for McCain. Well, I just may have to change my mind.
Go Obama
Mormon seems to have the least # of cracks in it. It will be interesting to see if Hillary's 18 million cracks will help in this race or not.
Your families don't make enough money for the Republicans to be any actual help to you. Your children, their children, and their children's children will be paying off the dept of the last seven years of borrow-and-spend economics.
Try a democrat for a change. The last one left the Whitehouse with a surplus in the budget.
