Wow....one of two major party presidential contenders announces his running
mate, and what does the Deseret News think is the leading, most important part
of the story? Who it's NOT?? An entire paragraph on the non-choice of
Romney, before a single word about Palin. Yes, we know who owns the Deseret
News, and what's really important to them. Sorry, Tommy & Co., you
just lost the last vestiges of your 2008 bid to direct the White House.

I am delighted that McCain chose Sarah Palin! Sure, I like Mitt, but *I* think
Palin is even better. I know I am more energized about the election now that we
have such a great pairing. Congrats to Sarah, to McCain and on to victory in
November.

Vote for Bob Barr. If you don't like McCain, but can't stand the
thought of voting for Obama, help build up a third party. Vote for Bob Barr, or
even Ralph Nader.

From where I sit, it doesn't look like any of the candidates has experience
as the President or Vice President. And if memory serves me correct, I
don't think Abraham Lincoln had any experience as President either. As a
matter of fact, when I got my current job, I didn't have any experience
doing that job either.
But guess what, I think I do a pretty good job, despite my inexperience. I was hired on my "potential". That is what we are doing here - looking to hire someone on potential, not experience.
I guarantee you that if you ask any former President, they would tell you that nothing can prepare you for the job. And the right person 40 yrs ago may not posses the necessary traits to do the job today.
In my business, I would hire an Idaho potato farmer over someone with experience any day - because of their character, integrity and work ethic.
I don't see how Ms. Palin's inexperience is any more relevant than anyone else. If you are looking for a change from politics as we know it, she seems like the best bet.

It seems that no matter who is in office, the predominant will of the people
generally gets done, a little faster sometimes or a little slower sometimes, but
generally so. The representative republic form of government seems to actually
work. If the country is in a shambles as some of you seem to think, it is
because of the predominant character of its 350 million people which influences
the predominant will and the resultant governmental policies. The president
doesn't control how each citizen lives his life, nor their value systems,
that's up to each of us. Please everyone go out on election day and vote
your conscience and let the chips fall where they may, but continue to live as
good of a life as we each can.

I can�t believe all you people. First of all, McCain
didn�t pick Romney because he is Mormon. That is a

and the fact that he is a white male.
When Obama chose Biden as a running mate, it left the door open for McCain to choose a non-traditional VP.
Palin is a good choice. First, she won�t alienate the base. The first thing to consider when choosing a running mate is first, do no harm. Palin will looks good to women and young people, a demographic that the Republicans have had a hard time winning in the past. She is also a fresh face in politics, not the same old tired old men. McCain needs to look more progressive than previous Republican candidates and this choice helps in that.

ages? If you can't see it, then I'm not even going to waste time to
explain it, but the important question is, who cares if your secretary is

You guys are crazy...this is the ONLY choice McCain could make. Forget her
experience...it's probably equal to Obama. A gun totin, hockey playin,
special interest hatin, high moral, high value, blue collar chick! HAND HER THE

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the choice. With all off the
GREAT people out there who could be VP, McCain went with a no-name, little
experence choice.
This once again leads me to believe the Mitt was turned down because of his religion. He's a great leader, executive, and human being. Why McCain turned him down is simple. The NATIONAL GOP goes not like Mormons. The Conservative/religious right does not like Mormons.

To be candid, I thought Romney had no chance to be picked as VP as the block of
southern baptist would oppose it. In their minds, an LDS who might become
president was tantamount to blasephemy.
It is not my opinion, but definately theirs. Only by winning enough votes in the the primary would Romney have gotten the nomination. That failed. The LDS organization and support and money is wanted, but not head of the party by the southern baptists.

Wouldn't it be nice to see this country once again being run by Americans,
rather than politicians? I don't know about you, but I have a hard time
relating to any of them. I think they are all pompous, self-serving and out of

Alaska State Police because he refused to fire her sister's estranged
husband who was an Alaska state trooper while her sister was undergoing a bitter
divorce? She has been (is being)investigated for abuse of power. Has that been

I didn't want Romney because of all his negative campaiging, he is so
cutthroat but I think for the first time since I have been a voter, we are all
going to lose so bad as a country. If I have to make a choice, there is no way I
am going to vote in an individual who has absolutely no experience in anything
politically. Two years as a governor? Wow, McCain really screwed us all. Oh
well, out with the old (literally) and in with the new. Biden is a much better

What an awesome pick for VP. Palin has 2 years as an executive
leader.....that's 2 years more than either Obama or Biden. An 80 percent
approval rating in Alaska because of her maverick style....not in the pockets of

Hey everybody.... McCain STILL has experience. He didn't somehow lose his
experience when he chose a lesser experienced running mate. McCain also has
ACTUAL accomplishments in government. He has also reached accross the aisle.
This is already way more than Obama who has never reached accross party lines
and thus never achieved anything notable in government.
PS - It's absolute hipocrisy for liberals to sing the anthem of change so loudly and then turn to criticize McCain for attempting to "change" things up with a female running mate. Weren't liberals supposed to be known for their non-racist/non-sexist viewpoints? I guess actions speak louder than words....

The rumor mill was speculating on Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. McCain was
clearly looking for a woman. He might have picked up Texas with Kay Bailey, but
Palin? McCain will still win electoral votes in Utah and Alaska. He'll

MORE with their running of this country. They are scared to death that their
record profits at the expense of our majority population will end with the

On the Obama ticket, we have the exact opposite. Obama is very eloquent but doesn't have enough experience. Biden has more experience, but he would not be the one with the power to goof things up.
If you're on a bus whose brakes have failed, who do you want driving? A 30-year veteran professional driver? Or an intern who has done lots of research and public speaking on bus driving? I'll take the veteran.

but I think he has carried his "maverickness" to an extreme and it has
now become a liability. If he thinks the number of women he will attract will

With Palin on the ticket I can feel comfortable voting for McCain this fall.
Previously I felt Chuck Baldwin was my only option. People are going to be very
surprised with Gov Palin's savvy and ability to communicate the issues

Her resume is only thin if you don't bother to read up on her. Obama has
one term as senator with most of that spent running for office of President.
She is miles ahead of him in that regard. While many want to comment on her
beauty queen status, they fail to comment that she was mayor, commissioner for
the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC)and governor. Oddly
enough, she picked up the endorsement of the Teamsters Union Local 959. Yup,
she's a reformer and a good choice even if cursed with beauty...how dare
she!

himself a permanent position in the Republican Party and his name recognition
