Weber State football: Wildcats cruise to lopsided victory

Mac should feel embarassed even scheduling this one. It was not even a decent scrimmsge. A mature team wants to play someone thst mesns something. Refunds are jn order for sll who request it. There is more balance in Ogden High playing Grandview Elementary.

All I can say is that Utah had better stay focused. It would be sad if Utah beat Michigan then lost to Weber St.

And for a struggling team like Weber St the best thing they could have done is schedule a team like this. Winning is about coaching, athletic ability and confidence. Weber St has the first two just fine. It is the confidence they need to work on. The winning attitude, which is a real commodity. And a win like this is a win. And it is basically a scrimmage but it really helps them.

When BYU beat then number one ranked Miami back in the early 90's BYU had a run-up game similar to this against UTEP.

Confidence and winning attitude matter. Coach Mac was smart. And ironically, the current winning trend at Utah was based on the methods, recruiting and coaching of Ron McBride. I wouldn't dis him too much.

Mac and the Cat's have nothing to be embarassed about scheduling a lower division team, they play 2 good BCS teams in Hawaii and Utah. It was a good scrimage game that gave Mac a chance to give the backups some time in the game to see what kind of depth he has. Every team plays a lower division team almost every year and I am glad they do or we would never see the Cat's up on the hill playing the Utes. Go Cat's.

The majority of the people there, were watching the game for free,so I don't understand, it's the same equivalent as a big name school playing a Div 3 school, so what's the big deal?

As a fan, I feel shorted every time Weber plays one of these cupcake teams, which they seem to do every year. These games do absolutely nothing for anyone. They tell us nothing about this team, and they are a waste of time for the fans. The team would get better practice by scrimmaging themselves. Shame on the AD, or whoever schedules these games. Why not just play teams of your level, meaning other FCS teams. Remember Southern Utah? Why aren't we playing them every year? I'm a season ticket holder and don't enjoy paying for these worthless games. I'll consider not renewing if these types of games continue to be on the schedule. No wonder nobody cares about Weber State football.

Re: WSUcatfan...Hawaii and Utah are not BCS schools. They are D1 schools who are on the outside looking in the BCS. While everyone plays a "cupcake" they shouldn't. It is not about feeling the warm fuzzys, its about sucking it up and playing the game no matter who you play.

Re: refunds...valid point about the majority of people watching for free. However, I recall the same tactic being used a few years ago to boost interest in a local football program. That idea turned out to be a great idea as it gave people a way to see something new and exciting without paying to see it first. Urban Meyer did this in 2003. Not that WSU is going to the BCS, but you have to raise the interest level in your program any way you can. Go WSU (just don't App. St. Utah!).

A game is an opportunity to work out the kinks in your system. Served both programs well, Weber to see how their other players perform, and Montana Western to play a tougher team to gauge how they are.

Support the Wildcats, you will find what you seek, look for the good and you shall find just that. Hawaii just named their QB, and the O line is still playing musical chairs. After returning from a lopsided game in Florida, and worrying about going to Oregon, they will be ripe for a loss from Weber State.

Win big and all you did was what you were supposed to do. Lose or win a close one and it haunts you in a game like this. But, I agree, this type of game to start the season is good to get kids the confidence they need. They can see how their offensive and defensive schmes work.

I don't agree that UTEP was the same kind of tune up for BYU before playing Miami. UTEP was in the same conference and thus not the same type of a step down.

The problem, from a fan's perspective, is that Weber has scheduled not 1 patsy, but 2. Remember, we play Dixie St, another lower division team only a few years removed from playing JUCO ball, later in the year. I suppose that these games are scheduled to offset the two upper division teams we play on the road, and I can accept maybe one easy game against a lower tier team. But two in one season? That shouldn't be acceptable to any fan. Most of us pay to go to these games. We should be rewarded with a quality opponent. The University does not seem to be considering the fans much when they schedule these games.

Whatever else you think about the game, I hope you enjoyed the play of Ryan Eastman. This kid is going to be an absolute terror on defense for the 'Cats in the future. Although you saw an obviously weaker opponent in last night's game, you can see the promise in young Eastman's potential. Whoever Weber plays in the future, keep your eyes on this rising star. The best news? Last night was his FIRST collegiate game, Ryan's a true freshman...

A few of these guys are in my classes and trust me.... the last thing they need is confidence!! This is the worst thing they could have done. Open the season against a powder puff team and let them feel like they're way better than they are. I'd prefer opening with a nice evenly matched team to get them going!
Weber will finish .500 like always. Utah, Hawaii, Montana, Montana State are AUTOMATIC losses! And I'm unsure who else they have on the schedule but they'll blow two or three more! Come on people have you been watching this team for the last 15 years. Nothing has changed!!!

Everyone who was involved in scheduling this game are adults. So why the whining. The boys played well and to their potential. Give them some praise for that. Same thing when we play Hawaii or the other teams. Play hard win or lose. Whoever is better prepared will win. It's a game. Enjoy it!

First of all most of the negative comments probabaly came from people who never played a single down of college football. They have a term for these kind of people its called "FANS".. Wheather your first game is against Ohio State or cupcake U, it's about meshing as a team, being one cohesive unit when u start conference play. Weber St. has a great offense and judging from last years defensive stats, a much improved "D" this year. Espsecially with that #95 on the D-line, he's a very talented TRUE Freshman, who will contribute big time to Weber's success on D. Weber St. will finish 1 or 2 in their confrence. I must say as a fan I thought this was the first time in years that Weber has put together a schedule that benefits them.In a season that Weber has a real chance of winning the conference and play some easy win games, worst case we finish non conference play at.500. The team learns how to play tuff, Utah and Hawaii, opponents but also learns how to enjoy the feeling of winning and builds confidence. Sure I wasn't looking forward to watching them play Montana Western but I knew that this would be a great game to loosen up and get their feet under them.

hawaii lost coaches, just like Appalacian State this year. They are different ball teams because of it.

Each year brings something new....

For those begrudging the Cats choice of opening game, what about some of the BIG BCS teams scheduling dogs? The SEC tems have two dogs each this year... talk about padding schedules.

So what if Montana Western is a lower team. Great start before heading off to Hawaii!

UH FANS saying this week how Hawaii is going to kick the Wildcat butt! Maybe because they now have something to prove after getting spanked by Florida OR maybe because it is the first home game this season with over 35,000 fans expected to attend OR maybe leftover hype from the Warriors 2007 season.

Whatever it is, us Weber State fans in Hawaii just stay humble and pray we compete well no matter what the outcome. Probable versus possible.... if you BELIEVE anything is possible!

Whew, sometimes these fans can be brutal, either way you go they are going to whine.

at the Wildcat's first game, you could have heard more cheering at girls softball game....WAKE UP Fans, get excited, I-T-S F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L, not a math meet. every time we started yelling, so many heads turned around with glaring eyes....c'mon, support your team! next time i am going to sit with the band across the field and make some BIG NOISE.

If I had a choice between Montana-Western or Boise State to open with, I'll take MW anyday, because if for nothing else its a feel good game instead of a demoralizing game. Lets quit second quessing the schedule and get behind the team.

How many of you clowns are actually die hard wildcat fans? BYU schedules lower division teams all the time, so why is it such a big deal if Weber does. Coach Mac has got something special going on up here in Ogden, get on the wagon and support them and stop your crying about the schedule.
