BYU football: Reed happy he stuck with Cougars

Great article. Good to hear such quality from our team. I agree that these types of successes are much more important than Saturday's success. This change in mindset/focus from Coach Mendenhall is what makes me glad he's our coach, not his success on the field (although winning sure is nice too). Win or lose, Bronco's making the BYU team what is should be.

Michael, we are glad you stayed too, to play but also to contribute to the unique institution that BYU is today. Thank you for mentoring Chambers and thank you for coming into Provo with an open mind and heart. I hope you have a great season and achieve all your goals. BYU fans love their players, but more importantly, we love watching them grow into fine men of character on and off the field. You are a good example of what we love about BYU football. There is only one receiver in the state of Utah named Reed that anybody should be talking about right now. That young mans name is David and he plays for the University of Utah. He is the finest receiving Reed around!

Thanks Jeff for bringing this information to us fans. We think Mike is a super player and we are glad he stuck it out. I am sure it was hard, and I am sure he will reap the rewards of his hard work and integrity.

Good luck Reed! RE: the mtn -- I got my first look at a show last night on the mtn...after watching ESPN Sports Center, the mtn was like a high school TV production. It was embarrassing to watch. I hope with the additional DTV subscriber dollars they can upgrade to a professional broadcast and surround Todd Christensen with quality talent. An HDTV broadcast would be a good start as well. Good luck with that.

Best Catch Ever!

One of my most favorite BYU catches is the one Reed had vs. Wyoming a couple of years ago. The ball went right between 2 defenders in the end zone and Reed came up with the ball some how. Talk about skill and concentration! I'm glad he's here and I hope he has a successful Senior year!

Does anyone know where I can find info on the buses that pick you up from the malls that pool down to the BYU games?

A kid like Mike Reed would be a great addition to the athletic program after graduation to help non-LDS athletes transition and manage through their time at the Y. I think some former athletes have played that role but I think they converted to the Church while a Coug. Maybe we need someone who held firm to their own religious beliefs while integrating well into the LDS culture to work with these non-LDS athletes - most of which like Reed probably won't convert and may need someone in that same mold as support.

I'm a BYU fan but Todd Christensen is no TV talent. He is absolutely horrible as an announcer and he's more concerned with trying to prove how intelligent he is than being a sportscaster. If you want to improve the talent on the MTN then get rid of Todd.

Hadn't you better wait until David Reed actually catches a pass in a live Div 1 game before you pronounce him better than Mike?

I think you should. We all know what happens when the U of U starts pumping up their receiving corps prematurely...

Congrats Michael for a great career at BYU and for making it through the tough times. I received a masters degree at BYU, despite being a "minority" and having a different religious perspective. However, I finished my experience there knowing the good outweighed the bad. Sure, there were times when I felt the business school administration had no clue regarding diversity or creativity (and at times were flat-out ignorant), but BYU is a unique school with unique standards.

Thanks for hanging tough--only a handful of people will truly understand how difficult your journey has been. Yet, despite your trials, you will find yourself checking up on Utah news and BYU on a regular basis--because the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Maybe you're right but consider this fact. David Reed hasn't played one down of major division college football. He opens against a tough Michigan defense, and I doubt he'll set the world on fire in that game. I'm sure he'll be a fine receiver as the season progresses. Michael Reed for the Cougs has already proven himself. He not only has excelled on the field, but has done well off the field. That can be tough for some BYU athletes. It sounds like both schools are fortunate to have Reeds. We're fortunate to have Michael, and I expect him to have an outstanding year as teams will key on Collie.
