like we have never needed anyone befor. He is the complete package. what reason
could anyone have for not picking him to be anything they wanted Him to be? A

Orson Scott Card wrote a very convincing letter asking McCain to NOT pick Mitt
Romney. I was forced to agree with it.
McCain has enough of an uphill battle as it is. Romney will not win for McCain any states McCain won't already win; and Mitt will quite probably cost McCain one or more Southern states that McCain desperately needs against Obama.
We can thank good ole' Southern Christian Evangelism. The Evangelists would sooner vote for a gay man or an African American (ergo, Obama) than a "cult member" like Romney.
Alas, I wish it weren't so. I also think Mitt is a terrific candidate and is badly needed. Unfortunately, prejudice in the South and the tight poll numbers make Mitt too risky for McCain.

Mr. T - Please allow me to express my displeasure at your referring to Mitt
Romney as "Him", using the capital 'H'. Most of us reserve
that designation for a higher authority and despite all of Mitt Romney's
exemplary qualities, he has not been elevated to that status.

It takes a lot of gall for Romney or McCain to accuse anyone else of
flip-flopping. They've both managed to be on both sides of every major
issue. That is, except working to make rich people even richer. They've
both been consistantly in favor of creating a permanent layer of American
nobility. Romney saved a few corporations, but he did so at the expense of the
people who worked hard to build the companies. He could care less about
working people. If you're not rich, you're a fool if you vote for
Republicans.

as a person of honor and conviction he seems to be failing badly. After
shamelessly pandering as a candidate, he has now become McCain's attack

I find it very entertaining to read the many comments from both sides of this
argument. Everyone is so passionate and sure that they are right. I will remind
you that we are talking politics here. That means that everyone on both sides
will talk a lot about what sounds good and what they think the largest majority
of voters want to hear. It is rather sad that there is so much venom being
thrown about by both sides. Name calling and passing judgments on the character
of a person with only knowing who they are by what you read in the paper or
because they are the same religion as you is very irresponsible. Whether you
believe in the Bible or not there is very good wisdom in the story that ends
with Jesus saying, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
You are supposed to have an opinion and be able to choose according to your best
judgment, but trying to influence people with snide, sarcastic comments is not
productive. Also, irresponsible comments that are full of grammatical and
spelling errors only add to your lack of credibility. Use spell check!

I don't think Mitt is Christ, but I am concerned about his willingness to toss his values to "fit" with whatever the political whims of the times are. McCain has also turned right big time to appeal to the extremes of his party -- McCain's maverick reputation has been tarnished in my eyes. And adding Mitt, both of whom don't like one another -- a divide that goes way back to the 2002 Olympics when McCain criticized all the earmarks sent to Utah for hosting the Games -- could be a real challenge of leadership in the White House!

I hear the argument made frequently, in presidential elections, that one or the
other candidate is "not qualified" and I wonder just what are
important qualifications to be president?
Here's mine:
1) Intelligence
2) Ability to listen to the opinions of others, and if persuasive, change positions when the evidence is compelling (read not rigid,open minded)
3) Ability to get along well with other people, not an egotist, ability to recognize one's mistakes, etc.
4) Ability to recognize talent and assemble a highly qualified team of people around you. Reagan was good at this. The country is not run by one man, but by a large organization with lots of talented people. As a result, I'm not that concerned if, a candidate has only been in public service a short time if he has the other qualifications listed above.
So, I would ask that we all take a careful look at the candidates and see what the people who've worked with them and know them well have to say about them. I personally don't think Mitt is any more or less qualified to be president than either John McCain or Barak Obama--I can make a case for all three.

McCain simply doesn't respect Mormons or the measly 5 electoral votes Utah offers. Well I live in Utah, am Mormon, and am voting for Obama, who has only nice things to say about Utah (on a recent trip to his campaign office here, he told some staffers they are lucky to live in Utah.)
Now that the MItt fantasy is over, it is time for all Utahans to really consider who will be best for Utah and for the US--Obama. He has the plan, the intelligence, and the right set of skills to rescue the country from the Bush debacle.

This state means nothing on the national level of politics. How much campaigning
have you seen by either party here in Utah the last 40 years? Why is that?
Guess? It is and has been the most republican state by percentage in the U.S.
forever. Why is that? With all that has transpired this past 8 years and before
that people that live cult type lifestyles are told what to do and they do
it(ala FLDS, Jim Jones, Amish communities ect. Wake up Utah and think for
yourselves for a change, make your own decisions, don't be told what, where
and when to do things. If you don't believe this, then why just why would

am a Mormon that is not for Mitt getting the VP spot. It is not because he is
Mormon or the fact that he is a good businessman. The fact is that his positions

As a former Olympic volunteer and active member of the LDS Church, I am
disappointed in Mitt Romney. I found Hillary to be much more believable than he
was in his rants. Why would he even want to be on McCain's ticket? Oh yeah,
he could inherit the job if dementia or whatever was to set in. Even if he is on
the ticket, which I highly doubt, I will not vote for it.

i find it interesting that there are very few comments about the actual article
but LOTS commenting back to the commentors...for me, i can't decide what is
more likely. romney helping mccain b/c he is the best candidate all around (i
too think he is the complete pkg) and also being capable of stepping into the
position of president if/when mccain succumbs to the effects of his age. OR
romney costing mccain the presidency due to southern states (where i happen to
live) having people in them that would rather have a democrat in office (or
waste their vote on an indep-same thing) than put someone who doesn't share
their "values" in office (as if a dem DOES!). i don't know what
to hope for other than actually getting mccain/romney IN office.

Housing aside, the gist of the article is that Senator Obama is not ready.
Now, I would challenge people to read (at least skim) the Senator's book -
"The Audacity of Hope" and then be bold enough to say he isn't
"ready".

You need to get over your persecution complex. Romney is a joke and would be
harmful to McCain's hopes of winning the election. People don't like
because he doesn't have a backbone and his constantly changing views(IE
flip-flopping), not because he's mormon. Go find another excuse as to why

and Reid for over a yr and 1/2 and helped make the Congress get the lowest
rating in history and never sent 1 appropriation bill in during all of this time
