BYU 3-0 | 1:02 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
BYU 3-0. it wont be easy but i think they will pull it off.
Re: Katbacker | 1:07 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
How much chance do you think a non-BCS team would have at being selected for an at-large berth over a 2nd place team from the SEC, Big 10, PAC 10, Big 12 or ACC?

10 BCS spots

6 BCS automatics
1 non-BCS automatic

leaves 3 at-large BCS selections

It would be VERY interesting to see the BCS powers struggling with whether to invite, say, an undefeated #8-ranked WAC champion Fresno State instead or a 1-loss #12-ranked 2nd place Big 12 Texas.

Especially, if the Big East champ had 2 losses and wasn't even ranked in the Top 15.

Unless you are a member of the team - practice during the week and dress for games on Saturday - you are not allowed to use "we", "us" and "our". You don't qualify.

Don't forget to blame us for the price of gas and any other world calamity. How do you spell paranoid? (see mirror for definiton)
Let's play some football... | 1:18 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Does anyone get the idea that ute fans would like to see Max get hurt on Saturday.

Shame on you....I guess if seeing a competitive athlete like Hall get injured so you can beat us in thirteen weeks then so be it...

Actualy I think the utah team wants BYU to be at their best and win in an honorable fashion.,,

And where do you see Tradition...Spirit...Honor a part of the Utah program. You don't, because those three words don't apply to Utah football. It's on Our Scoreboard in Provo for the whole world to see.
As imperfect as we may be down in Provo, we put it out their for the whole world to see....

Quest for Perfection is a huge mantle to take upon your shoulders in college football. I watched the KSL video of Coach Mendenhall's press conference as he reviewed his team's preparation for Staurday's game. I'm a middle aged guy and would walk into the Jaws of Hell for a coach like Mendenhall. It must scare the living h... out of the ute fans to have Bronco leading our little army of inept football players.

We win again in SLC, if not just for Bronco....

How about before a few years before Luke Staley, remember one of the Lusk brothers from the U. He took direct snaps. I am sure it has happened 100 yrs even before. It does not matter who came up with it, it matters how it is executed which makes it count.

Sorry my error.
N. Iowa is good | 1:28 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
They would likely be favored IMO vs: Utah St, UNLV, SDSU, and CSU. It amuses me to see so many complain or question the addition of N. Iowa esp. considering the circumstances.
Why? | 1:36 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Coach's Perspective | 1:37 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
By talking about putting Collie at QB, it's pretty clear that Bronco is just giving opposing coaches further down the line another dimension that they will have to prepare for taking away time from trying to defense the high powered BYU offense. I bet Bronco gives Collie a few plays during the NI game just to make the treat real. If Collie does well, he just may get a few more plays against Washington & UCLA, but the treat will be something opposing coaches will have to game plan for.

FACT | 1:54 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
If anything goes wrong to where BYU can't get into a BCS bowl this year, they will still have another excellent chance next year. Consider this...

In 2009.

Max Hall = Senior
Harvey Unga = Junior
Austin Collie = Senior
Mckay Jacobsen = returning Sophmore

A solid OL like they have had the past few years

what everyone is calling a young defense this year will be an experienced defense next year.

The true worry that ute fans should have is if BYU goes BCS bowling this year, what are they going to do next year when they are even more experienced?
To Johnny | 2:05 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
If you follow and support your team then you can use "we", "us" and "our" all you want. Cougar fans are just as invested as some of the players. I think Mendenhall would totally disagree with you. To hear him speak he wants all Cougar fans to be invested in the football program just as much as his players and would probably expect that this be a "we", "us" and "our" deal. Feel free to use "they" when referring to another team. But the team you root for is "your" team.
Someone | 2:06 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
What happened to earlier comments make by Bronco when he said that his team had the depth necessary to fill any position? Now he says he is worried about depth at running back? I think he is trying to back-pedal
12th Man | 3:05 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
To all those who keep saying that fans are not part of the team and therefore cannot use statements like we, us and our, i ask you...Have you never heard of the 12th man? If not, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? Ask any sports announcer or sports analyst (or anyone that even knows the littlest amount about sports in general) and they will confirm that the 12th man is real and a huge factor in the game.
Hmmm... | 3:29 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
BYU has the depth necessary to fill any position. They've already had to learn that at running back, since they've had to fill a vacant spot left by Manase Tonga's academic ineligibility. The fact that BYU is having to fill that spot and isn't likely to skip a beat should speak volumes about BYU's depth.
Comments from a Frog | 3:33 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
1. BYU fans need to shut up about Harline being still open. Watch the tape, the line of scrimmage was the twelve, the O-line was inside the ten when Beck threw the pass= lineman ineligable.
2. Bronco is a great leader, not a good coach. I think what he has done at BYU is rather impressive, but. I have watched him match up with the Utes two years in a row with superior talent and squeek by victories. He was a mediocre DC at New Mexico and BYU only started winning after he quit influencing on the field coaching.
3. Stop worrying about the offense. The secondary should be your point of concern as was ours two years ago (when you smoked us with the pass). And I just saw the update from last year, Tulsa just scored again.

Just my two cents, can't wait for Saturday.

Go TCU.
Re:Someone | 3:59 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
To Someone:

And about your comments concerning Bronco. Whether Bronco is back pedaling is unimportant. And why do you or your ute friends even care.

Is it about trying to call into question his integrity??? Is it that you would trade your little sister and trade your five wives to have Bronco coach your favorite football team.....well tell the truth ute lover, or should I say byu hater.

The story around the time of Whit's hiring and Bronco taking the job at BYU was he might just give utah a call and see what availability they had for coaching positions.....

Makes me wonder my little ute friend if Whit wanted the challenge of coaching his alma mater. But he didn't. He took the easy way out and stayed at utah. He must have thought this is the better deal. Those guys in Provo are sitting on a powder keg waiting to explode, if it han't already.

What would all our little ute friends give for the integrity of a Bronco Mendenhall. What would they give for the vision of what a program should be about. And it was always about BYU. Not himself.

Eat your hearts out my ute friends.......
Running Back Concerns | 4:31 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I've been saying this since Tonga was declared ineligible, "BYU is going to struggle with the RB depth". You cant count on Fui who really isnt that good of a back and is always hurt. Unga is still young, so who does that leave us? Losing Tonga who can block, run and catch could be the worst thing to happen to the cougars. It gave Harvey Confidence to be behind a brut like that last year, and w/o him he might not perform as well.
To Fact | 4:39 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Add Pitta and George at TE as seniors and Friel as an experienced sophomore. Tonga back to redeam himself as a senior. Diluigi, Chambers and others with good experience. Basically the only skill position player we lose to graduation is Reed.

BUT - you can also subtract Unga. He is too good not to declare early and go for the NFL big bucks. This season will be his third out of hs so is eligible and I think he is gone. Diluigi and Tonga will pick up the slack though.
RE: 12th Man | 4:36 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
12 men on the field. i think thats called a penalty.
Re: N. Iowa is good | 4:48 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Name one Division I-A team they've beaten to defend your assertion. This is ridiculous. Northern Iowa is good, but their skill level should only be measured by their level of competition.

Utah fans are wrong to blast BYU's schedule when their team's is comparable in difficulty. But BYU fans trying to make Northern Iowa sound like a potential top-25 team is just as ludicrous. You don't need to make outrageous claims to justify your team's scheduling. Just win every game and that should be enough to silence your Ute critics.
Truth | 5:05 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
There will come a time when football fans will be crushed by the realization that they have wasted countless hours on something that does not matter one iota.
RE: Ernest T Bass | 5:28 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Utah's stadium is so small cause theyre podunk. They think theyre the greatest thing that has happened west of the mississippi but they can barely fill their 45,000 seat stadium. Oh and the MUSS is a pathetic cry for fan support. Especially since they mimic the Texas Longhorn hand gesture. If Utah wants respect they have to do a lot better than what i've seen in the past. Cant wait for the Utes to travel up to Laramie.
Who care? | 7:45 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
This article is about BYU, not the utes. MUSS
should be spelled MESS and would be rejected by any self respecting grade school. Forget them and let the whining begin about the Michigan game, the officiating, the locker rooms and whatever.
Gretzky | 7:53 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
to Ernest T. Bass: the Ute stadium is a much BETTER stadium for seating and watching a game than cougar stadium and i am a cougar fan no doubt about it. the UNLV stadium is better than the cougar stadium. the LES was completed in 1982 and at that time cougar fans were not as FAT as they are now. that is why the 65K seat stadium looks more like at 50K stadium. they just cram more behinds into the seats than the comfy confines of Rice Eccles and the UNLV stadiums. have you ever gone to a game with minutes just before kickoff only to find your seats are being sat on and there really is NO room despite having proof of your seating??? it's b/c Y fans are OBESE!!!
Anonymous | 8:07 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
The UCLA win last year wasn't all that lucky. Don't forget the bonehead play at the end of the half that gave them an easy score. Without that, the blocked field goal would likely not have been necessary. We should handle them in Provo.
Idaho Cougar Fan | 8:07 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
BYU can beat anybody on their schedule because they have better talent than everybody they are playing. Depth might be a slight issue right now, but look at who is coming back from missions and then take a look at the 2009 recruiting class and BYU is looking even better. If you go to Rivals.com and check out the recruting page and compare BYU's class with the PAC-10, only USC and Stanford have better classes right now. That doesn't include 3 or 4 more 4 star recruites that haven't declared yet and have the Y as one of their top choices. On top of that ESPN recruiting page says that Te'o from Hawaii (Top LB recruit in nation) will probably pick either USC or BYU. If they can some how by the grace of God land him they will probably be a Top 25 recruiting class and only TCU class (at this point) would even be able to compete with the Y (sorry Utes). Check it out for yourself. BYU is going to be good now and for many years to come! Te'o please sign with the Cougs!

To:Re N Iowa is good: I think it was Iowa State that they beat last year, and who was claiming that they are a top 25 team?

To: Truth: Why are you wasting your time on this football site?????
Fully Invested | 10:15 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Hey Frog, you need to read the rule book on ineligible man downfield. If the line of scrimmage was on the twelve and the O-line was inside the ten when the pass was thrown, its not a penalty. Ofensive linemen can be engaged with a defensive player for up to three yard beyond the neutral zone on a pass play. Are you sure your not a Utah fan? Seems hard to imagine a TCU fan caring enough to watch the film that close and then get on a D-news web-site to let everyone know about the supposed rule violation. And, by the way, Harline is.... Ya, you guessed it...still open. And so is Collie.
Hmmm... | 10:19 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Unga will not leave for the NFL draft after this year. He's not THAT good.
SheriffPolynice | 10:22 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Just a memo to cougar nation: You may have an easy time with UNI, however, Jake Locker will be the fasted QB BYU has ever faced and he will totally make the BYU defense look stupid!

If the cougs don't bring their A game all afternoon, count out any hopes of busting the BCS in week 2.
Re: Gretzky | 11:15 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Fat cougar fans? LOL...well at least they are 100% sober and not shouting X rated comments and pouring beer all over you like what happened to me in RES! No wonder few people have the desire to attend games in RES, especially if they have a family! Football @ RES is not family friendly entertainment! My experience in RES= rated "R" for adult language and adult situations.
re: sheriff polynice | 11:42 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
oh me oh my another dire prediction of doom for the Cougars, what ever shall we do. Hey sheriff your post is the same kind of stupid stuff that was posted by BYU haters before every conference game last season. And the bowl game too for that matter! But I don't mean to discourage you. I think posts like yours actually brought us good karma, so feel free.

Hey yewt fans - win the conference, or at the very least beat BYU, then you can run your smack. Until you do at least one of those, keep your stupid comments on your own board or to yourself. Preferable, to yourself!!!
