I'll give him two years before he's canned for not meeting the pie-in-the-sky promises made during the election.

With this wonderful addition of Dr. Doty to public education, we can finally move foward on both the west side and east side school districts. Both districts are in very capable hands (Dr. Newbold and Dr. Doty)and great strides will be made for all children and parents. Best of luck to both Dr. Doty and Dr. Newbold.

We want at leat 40% of Dave's time on the West side. East side - you get no vote on the matter.

Experience? | 10:08 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Dr. Doty may have a law degree but he has never been a teacher or a principal. He needs more than luck to work with his new school board -- he needs experience in public education!

Where does he report to work in September? Surely not in the Jordan District office - it belongs to the Jordan West district. By the way, is the Jordan East district going to get a new name? If they want to split off, don't steal the old name. Dr. Doty has no experience in public education other than a desk job in the state office. I hope he can relate to the professional educators and students in his district.

Another non-educator in charge of education, sounds like a good plan.

Correction: another well paid non-educator in charge of education. By the way, what does the head of UTA get paid? Maybe we could combine the two jobs into one and save some money.

People, get your facts straight before you speak. Dr. Doty has been a teacher, in high school as well as in college. Aside from this fact, it can only help to have someone with more varied experience to do this job. There are many complicated legal issues facing our schools these days and someone with experience in the law and policy making as well is a plus to me. Let's respect the process and move forward to make both school districts great ones.

Good Luck | 6:00 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
I wish Dr. Doty success in his new position.

However, the only person with a bigger ego than the mayor of Cottonwood Heights is Dr. Doty.

Let the fireworks begin.

This town ain't big enough for the two of them!

Dishonorable Mess. | 1:06 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
This split has been a disaster from the start. We need to vote Cullimore, Curtis, Walker, and Dolan out of office. They are all up to their eyes in this mess and it all boils down to the Old Jordan District telling the Legislature to stick it when they came asking for money for the Sandy Soccer Stadium. Dr. Doty is probably a fine guy but he was chosen so that the Mayors could run the show. Dr. Bates has more experience running a District and has actually worked in schools. Look to see the Sandy Mafia coming back to ask for the 12 million for Curtis's Soccer stadium. I hope I'm wrong.

I am appalled with this appointment. I can't believe that a man like Doty, with minimal to no experience would be selected to direct seasoned teachers and administrators. I totally agree this is a dishonorable mess and I hope Cullimore, Dolan, Carlene Walker and Greg Curtis all get voted out of office. I don't know any seasoned person with experience that would compromise their own personal integrity for such a position. I feel very sorry for employees and kids in my area.
