Demos launch attack on Romney

Why are you all so angry? | 2:06 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Don't you realize that this makes LDS look GOOD, if Romney is perceived to have power?

Admit it, though. NONE of you would have ever heard of the guy if he weren't LDS.

You are voting your religion, and ignoring what the man has actually done (and said).

Funny... | 2:10 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The leftist bloggers on this sight have been saying for months now, how lightweight Romney is. Also, how backwoods and out of touch Utahns are for even thinking that the 'Mormon' Romney could possibly be considered for VP.
Well, the Democrat party knows better. They know that the most quailified and dignified cantidate would be Romney.
Moreover, when will anybody take Barney Frank seriously. Mabey when he solicits sex from young men out of his personal residence?
Chris Corwin | 2:10 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I find it sad that so many of my fellow mormons support Romney for President. He is a "wolf in sheeps clothing". He is a socialist (look at his government health care in Mass)which contradicts every thing the constitution stands for. Last time I checked D&C 98 tells LDS to uphold and defend the constitution. Unfortunately too many of you have been sucked in to all of the socialist promises (socialist security, socialist medicine, etc). Or in other words "seduced the more part of the righteous until they had come down to believe in their works and partake of their spoils." (Helaman 6)

Message to McCain: Choose Romney and be President. The more Dems talk trash about Romney the higher his stock goes with fiscal Independents and Republicans.... I smell L A N D S L I D E
Two words, Brad (1:36 p.m.) | 2:19 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
So what!

Nothing that Edwards did in any way affects the fact that Romney is one of the worst flip-floppers in politics. I really don't see how anyeone can in any support him. The country deserves better.
Johny Fairplay | 2:19 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Romney lovers, maybe save some of the vitriol for Huckabee, who just today pointed out Romney's propensity for "change" when it suits his political needs.
Mark Browning | 2:28 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
It's amazing how obvious the Democrats are threatened by Romney. They attack him as if he is already the V.P. They have good reason to be scared,if he is the V.P. then Obama will most certainly lose.
Bottom Line | 2:36 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Mitt Romney will not be the VP running mate of John McCain. Period.
Mike R. | 2:39 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
If Barney Frank and the Democrats are scared of him, he must be the right guy.
Anonymous | 2:39 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
"Democrats mount attack on Romney."

What a crock of [bleep]!
Believe me, the Democratic party is losing no sleep whatsoever over Mitt Romney and what he does or doesn't do. But I'm sure the hometown crowd would like to thing that.

I love election years!
Indiana | 2:40 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Chris Corwin, did it occur to you that many LDS support Mitt Romney because we 'discern' him to be a good guy? I for one am so sad the LDS people (supposedly) like you buy into the vile lies about him, or do you? I think maybe you are not really lds, that you are just a person who hates Mitt and uses the religion card to try to convince other people...

In any case, you just perpertrated a big lie! Mitt is a great man, he governed as a conservative, he is a generous, kind and righteous man. America needs his integrity and financial aumen. He is squeaky clean and there is nothing to hate. Wake up!!!! You are bearing false witness and that is a bad behaviour...
Anonymous | 2:49 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Yes, everyone in MA and MI hate him, except the voters that he served that is. Personally, I like a guy that career politicians hate (from either party).
John Pack Lambert | 2:55 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
To the 1:30 poster,
Where and when did Romney say this alleged line about God not having spoken to man since Moses, and what is the fuller context of what he said. Just because you can lift a set of words out of someone's text does not mean that they are saying what you think.
If I were to say "God has not spoken to man since Moses with more force than he did then". You could then cut off the last seven words I wrote and change what I said. We need context not accusations.
I actually expected these people to say something about when Romney was governor. They had nothing to say. I also think Frank's line of "back" to Utah was disengenous, since Romney had over ever been in Utah as a college student, there was nothing "back" about it. If it had been the Detroit Olympics Romney had saved, than Frank would have been speaking accurately.
Anonymous | 3:01 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Demos attack Romney?
Why would they do that?
Romney may be big in Utah (the LDS thing) but nationally he's not a major player.
Sorry to burst your bubble Utahns.
Indiana | 3:17 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Anonymous @3:01

Do you live in a cave??? Romney has won nearly every poll in the last couple of months on who should be the McCain VP, or who he will pick, or who would be the best choice as a take over if needed. On one poll, there are 114,440 voters and 63% of them voted for Romney...

He is nationally known, he is talked about alot on the national level and you are at rest or just trying too hard or something... go figure..
So What? | 3:23 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Another move on the chess board...

So what!

Where's the debate on the issues that really matter including:

- Our national debt
- The war on terror
- If torture is ever justified
- How to fund entitlement programs
- Energy independence
- International peace
- Illegal immigration and undocumented aliens
- Our aging bridges, roads and buildings

And the list goes on and on and on.

If we keep talking about flip flopping and whether one candidate wears a lapel pin while the other doesn't put his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem, how will we ever address the real issues that confront us

Hate to break it to you but I am indeed an active LDS...returned missionary and all. As far as me buying into the "vile lies" about Mittens is not the case. Why? Because they are not lies at all. Do a little research for yourself instead of just accepting him as a "good" man because he is LDS. I have seen the interview of him making his comments about God not talking to man since Moses. I have watched the radio interview where he denies the church's official policy on abortion. I have seen the video of him saying he would consult with his lawyers before going to war (how about congressional approval as stated in the constitution). I guess you are trying to tell me that he didn't pander to the liberal/gay crowd to get elected gov of Mass? He didn't support socialist healthcare in Mass? I suggest you turn off Fox Noise and the Commie News Network and do some thinking for yourself. But that would require you to question the paradigm you have been duped into believing. Nobody likes it when they have been wrong, but only the truly humble can accept it and move on.
aaron | 3:53 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
There's two kinds of flip-flopping:

1- short term Flip-flopping as merely a strategy to get elected, which we would see when a candidate contradicts himself during a race.

2- long term Flip-flopping which we'll see when we zero in on a candidate's past. This can reflect one's development of opinion and/or the ability to see both sides of a subject.

As for Romney, I think he's guilty of both types, but perhaps more so of long term flip-flopping.
John in Sandy | 4:04 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
John McCain hates mormons, he won't pick Romney. Doesn't anyone remember his mother's comments about Romney, Mormons and the Olypics? McCain was sitting right next to her smiling. I don't think we have to worry about Romney being VP.
Anonymous | 4:16 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The trouble is, their criticisms are TRUE!
A little reverse psychology? | 4:13 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I think the Democrats would really like to see Mitt Romney as VP candidate. The religious right would be put off by his beliefs, independents would really struggle with his considerable rightward shift, and many stalwart conservatives may be tempted to stay home rather than cast a vote for McCain and Romney. Romney is a brilliant capitalist and would probably be a decent VP for McCain, but as a candidate he's a considerable liability, and I think the Dems realize that.
EFud | 4:17 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Wow. Tearing down Mitt to make themselves look better. Classic case of pride. Too bad so much time is wasted on who is the "right" party instead of working at how we can make our country a better place to live in. This type of behavior does nothing for the unifying of America.
Is he unique? | 4:24 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., said of former Massachusetts Gov. Romney. "I have never seen anyone so completely without any commitment to any particular principle and so willing to say whatever he thinks will help him win the next election."

Mr. Frank could be commenting about every politician that walks the face of the God's green earth. Is Mitt so unique?????
Prosecutor | 4:35 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Hey, if Dems the likes of Barney Frank and Wayne Holland hate him, that's good enough for me!

Mitt's my man!

Too bad McCain's anti-Mormon bias would never permit him to select Mitt.
Capt. Smash | 4:43 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
It's not the Democrats that are attacking!

McCain will not pick Romney; for fear of Evangelicals. Huckabee does not like Mormons and will turn on McCain if Romney is his choice.

Evangelicals Warn Against Romney For VP: Huckabee supporters in particular balk at the idea.

Prominent evangelical leaders are warning Sen. John McCain against picking former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as his running mate, saying their troops will abandon the Republican ticket on Election Day if that happens.

They say Mr. Romney lacks trust on issues such as outlawing abortion and opposing same-sex marriage and because he is a Mormon. Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year.

re: So What? 3:23 | 4:41 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008

Well put, So What.
Well put.
can't relate to the mega-rich | 4:45 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
It is my observation that mega-wealthy people like Mitt Romney live in their own little worlds.
It is unfortunate that our conservative friends put the wealthy on some sort of pedestal automatically never questioning how they obtain their wealth, etc.

Personally, I believe America is ripe for someone from a lower caste background they can relate to.

The mega-wealthy silver-spooners have never been MY heroes.

Sadly, the Accusations are True | 4:53 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I voted for him in Massachusetts, and would have voted for him for president, too, so I'm all the more sorry to say that the accusations of political expediency -- though they are exaggerated with the typical rhetorical hyperbole -- are fundamentally true.

A shame, because he might be a good VP. But he himself created the rope with which he is now being hanged.

So it's wrong for those of us who support Mitt to deny that truth.
Larry | 5:17 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I think Mr. Romney should consider it an honor to be attached by Democrats. They sure don't have much to offer. Has anyone seen Harry Reid try to convince a reporter that we have a "voluntary" tax system in the U.S.? With that kind of logic who would believe anything they say??
Capt. Smash | 5:21 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
On another note it looks like its going to be:

Obama/Biden 08/12

Now that is change you can count on!

This will be a great ticket!
anom | 5:32 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The DNC is jealous. Their candidate for Pres is Jimmy Carter reincarnated and no serious contender for VP.
W.D. Joines | 5:39 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
With vicious attacks on Romney from dems and gomerpylehuckleberry, then you know without doubt who is the best man for the job. ROMNEY.
Do you want a man in office who knows how to spend money or make money? McCain/Romney ticket would be great. And remember my favorite president, Reagan made some changes on the issues, including going from being a dem to Republican, pro abortion to anti abortion etc. Most of us become wiser with age.
ROMNEY IS THE ONLY SENSIBLE CHOICE AND THE dems know it and they don't want that to happen.
dems are also scared to death of the U.S. drilling for oil so let's just watch them play their games of deception. Do they think we are all fools?
By the way how can people doubt Mormons are Christian when they worship Jesus Christ, are baptized in his name and the name of the Church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Duh? Not to mention they high standards they live by and their devotion to God, Family, and Country.

S. Cort Service | 5:38 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Two words and the story is rendered irrelevant: Barney Frank.
INDIANA | 5:41 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
TO Chris Corwin,

As one LDS rm to another, don't be so disgustingly condescending. I researched him extensively before I decided to work for him. What I found was a wonderful, genuine man that has tried really really hard to make effective change in the world in which he lives. He governed as a conservative, is pro marriage between man and woman. He had a wonderful health care program before the dem legislature got ahold of it. He valiently changed his mind about abortion and got beaten up for that...FOR MAKING A CORRECT CHANGE AND HAVING THE COURAGE TO SAY SO! I found a generous man that sent kids on missions, was the first to shovel walks for the elderly, sent kids to college and is actually all the the Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us we should be.

By the way, many many people in liberal MA really like Mitt. There is NYFORMITT web site. There is an EVANGELICALS FOR MITT site.

Yes, I have researched him a great deal. What I found is alot of people are extremely jealous and threatened enough lie about him and cut films to justify themselves... get a clue, say a prayer brother
Joann | 5:46 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Yes, Mitt Romney all the way!!!!! He was our choice over all of them for President. Compare this clean cut classy man to the preacher Obama and his questional background and who is the REAL American? Even without McCain - Mitt could beat Obama hands down. Compare their wives - Mitt's and Obama's. where is the choice? How can there be any question about the honesty gap between Obama and Mitt Romney? Who do we want in the white House - think about it and stop fantasizing before our White House turns RED - and I do not mean RED Republican - I mean Socialist Red.
Barney Frank = Village Idiot | 5:50 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
People who actually listen to and voted for this guy should be committed. I only have one question for Barney Frank. How does it feel to be THE village idiot?

Even worse, what does it say about the people of Massachusetts who have repeatedly voted for this fool? Wake up America!
David S. Fanene | 5:50 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Governor Mitt Romney has my vote. He is a principled man of honor and integrity. I support Governor Romney and his lovely wife Ann in their endeavors to bring moral leadership back into government. Go Romney !
Barney Frank?! | 5:54 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Barney Frank...Barney Frank questioning someone else's character?! That's a joke...a bad joke.
Re: Baptist | 5:59 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
So, there are denominations that support candidates? Is this legal?
WyomingMoose | 6:09 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I think the Dems are blowing a big smoke ring. They want us to listen to them bash Mitt and not look at their dismal record in DC. The more the Dems rant the stronger my opinion gets. Go for USA Mitt!!
SG | 6:31 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Boy, aint election year fun?!

What we really need to look at is who the presidential candidate's advisors are. That's how we should vote. Vote for the best advisors. The president is just a face.
YES! | 6:29 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Mitt is a good man and should some day be in the whitehouse. If you really belive he should be there, call, write or email Mccain headquarters, the rnc, cpac etc and tell them how you feel about an M&M ticket before McCain does something stupid like putting some prochoice guy on the ticket with him...
Ridgerunner | 6:45 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Barney Frank! Can anyone imagine what the left would be saying about him if he were a Republican?

John Edwards! Can anyone imagine what the left would be saying about him if he were a Republican?

Ted Kennedy: Barbara Boxer, Nancy Polosi..the list goes on and on.......infinitem....

Conclusion: If the left criticises you, rejoice and be glad! If means you are on the right side of morality and goodness.
Chris Corwin | 6:45 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008

"Get a clue?" Try reading the constitution and the words of the prophets and then tell me where the socialist programs/philosophies that Mittens believes in are authorized. And you tell me to get a clue.
Regardless of what the man has done, boys on missions, successful business, whatever, he still believes in policies that go directly against the constitution. Both the Republicrats and DemoRats are the same party. They have hoodwinked the naive into believing they are different. I suggest you study the constitution and then look around in our government today. We do not follow it anymore. The very document that prophets have said would be contained in our scriptures if it weren't our founding document. That's how important it is! It's because of people like yourself that we have continually lost the liberties the constitution protects.
Don't be fooled | 6:44 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Mitt is just another politician, he has a track record for flip flopping and lying. Yes he is LDS and the people of Utah want to believe he is going to save the U.S. He is still just a lying politician. I don't understand why people here want to make him something he isn't. He couldn't even win the primary election. In the end Obama will win.
America Forever | 6:47 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Chris, you are off base with your comments. Romney's health care is not socialistic. It is awesome!! The state pays the premiums when the employer cannot afford them and that is much cheaper than paying the doctor/hospital bills directly, thus insuring everyone is insured!! I could go on more, but that is the tip of it.

He has NEVER voted for abortion rights. Everything that passed his desk, he voted DOWN. Not very pro-choice if you ask me.

Dan | 7:04 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Let's compare Romney's track record to Obama's...

Romney- Helped run/build a very successful business that employed thousands and invested in companies to make them successful so they could hire thousands more. Helped turn around an Olympics that was deep in the red into what some say was the most successful games in history. Balanced a state budget without raising taxes. Helped pass a universal health care system that wasn't goverment run (until the MA liberals got their hands on it).

Obama-not much. Oh yeah, he was a community organizer.

So, if the libs want a fight, I think they picked the wrong guy
Obama and Old Mama | 7:06 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
As a conservative Republican I am not keen on McCain but the nation can't run the risk of an Obama presidency even if it is only one term. Carter was one term. LBJ was little more than one term. They were two of the worst presidents in my lifetime.

McCain can beat Obama but must do everything right. Romney will be the target of bigots on the left and on the right, from his party and the Democrats, and is probably not the right choice.

Obama, too, must do everything right but, with the Democratic convention held before the Republicans he must choose his VEEP first - unless the Dems attacks on anyone and everyone can force McCain to make his selection first.

Hold on Johnny. Be good and let the Dems hang themselves with Hillary.
Chris Corwin | 7:23 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
America Forever,

Just where does the state get the money they use to pay the premium? That's right. They take it from my paycheck and give it to you. Sure sounds like socialism to me.
Mile High-Jacking | 7:24 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Honestly, I don't see Obama getting the nomination. After focus groups after focus groups and analyzing why he is losing ground among so many voting blocs, the Party will determine him unelectable and bounce him in favor of Hillary.

Stay tuned for an unreal reality series, August 25-28.

There will be hi-jinks in Denver.
