As a gay Massachusetts resident, Rep. Barney Frank has a personal reason to express concern about former Gov. Romney's credibility and integrity.

In 1994, when Romney ran a failed campaign for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat, Romney sent a letter to Log Cabin Republicans asking for their support. He stated that he would be a stronger advocate for gay rights than Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Adding ï¿½We must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern.ï¿½

In 2002, Romney ran for governor of Massachusetts as a liberal Republican. However, acting as Governor, Romney supported a divisive, failed Constitutional Amendment to repeal the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Romney also invoked an archaic Jim Crow era law to prevent couples from out of state from marrying in the Commonwealth, which has since been repealed.

Betraying the civil rights of a class of citizens for political gain has its price. Who will Mitt Romney betray next?

The Democrats are attacking Mitt because they are very weak. Barry is not way out front like they think he should be, he has a load of unclaimed baggage that would fill an 18 wheeler, Hillary could very well take the whole thing away from him at their convention, and Pelosi and Reid are committing suicide by oil. The people are watching this circus and will vote Republican in November!

Such comments are so ridiculous that I can't imagine how they can be deemed newsworthy. The press seems to be fanning the flames of contention and ignoring more substantive issues. Like the facts.. The parties make charges without consequences. Obama is raking in huge amounts of cash from other countries whose interests are suspicious. Where's the coverage?
Call your opponent evil through surrogates so you can keep your image clean, and the press goes right along. Accuse him of being what you are. Distort, spin. No wonder so many are cynical today. Winning at all costs is destroying our political system.

I like many things about Mitt Romney, I would have voted Republican if he were the nominee, but most of the criticism is actually valid. He has flip flopped positions in order to get elected. He is probably even worse than most politicians. Having said that, I know he had to act liberal in Massechusetts to get elected. It worked.

McCain/Romney thats the ticket! Romney helps win Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and McCain is the next President. He brings more support and fundraising to the table than any of the others mentioned. In order to win McCain needs Romney period! GO MITT!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Republican and I don't want Romney as VP. Dems are right about his flip flops. Look at his record. Terrible on the 2nd amendment and has flipped flopped on abortion and gay marriage. McCain needs to pick a real conservative to be his VP running mate.

Obviously the Dems fear Romney. This is what they do. The Repub's will attack the most liberal of the Dems when they feel threatened and the Dems will do the same when a good hearted, honest, God fearing person threatens them.

Romney doesn't have to flip flop. His position can change if needed because he does it smartly. Against Ted Kennedy, he was seemingly "pro-abortion." However, he was not really. He just said he would protect the laws on the books and that is what he did. it was a perfectly honest thing to do...you know, protect the law. When he stated that he was going to be standing up for gay rights, he did, and he had every right because, again, it was the law, and he had no problem protecting the law. When that law became invalid or overturned, you see Mitt Romney begin to run in a direction he actually agrees with and goes for it like crazy. He is not a flip-flopper (I hate that phrase...way over used and too political.) he just takes advantage of the moment by stating the truth that he will be an advocate for them as long as the law is on the books. He is a profoundly sharp and intelligent man with a good grip on what is right. The dems fear him more than any other politician. I guarantee it...because he outsmarts them all.

I must amplify what a very savvy commenter said. Romney is the LAST of the eight potential Republican VP choices to be added to the Cheney II website. The 'attack' was limited to a few pols from states Romney has ties to. Yes, I know the reporter trumpeted this as a gargantuan assault on Romney, but the facts do not support that viewpoint. He is being getting about the same treatment as other GOP vice presidential wannabes. Considering his thin record, the young Right Wing zealot from Louisiana is the most vulnerable to attack of the octad.

As for Romney's coat tails, in these trying times, I suspect that the only states where he would add voters are Utah and Arizona, which McCain already has favored son status in.

I used to be a Democrat. I am so glad I woke up to their Fascist, Communist and Marxist ways. It really is the "pan-handling, welfare, I want a free ride and the government to take care of me party". The DNC biggest fear is that McCain will appoint a real conservative like Romney who would of won anyhow if Huckster would of left earlier. Romney's strenghts with economics would be an added bonus to McCain. Just looking at Obama's five minutes in the Senate, there is just no comparison. change for changes sake does not work, you need people with real experince in both government and actually working for a living such as Rommey would bring to the RNC ticket. The MSM lack of any crediblity on Obama's history of having ties with twenty years with a church that preached hate toward the US, his ties with mobsters, and terrorists would never cut it if he were a republican. MSM is in a sad state with their ever public love with Obama is sickening.
The AMerican public sees through this and will vote for McCain in high numbers when a true conservative such as Romeny is given the VP spot!

If Romney is on the ticket, and Hillary is not on the Dem ticket, then I might vote Republican for the second time in my life. On the other hand, if Hillary is on the Dem ticket and Romney is not on the GOP ticket, I will gladly stay with the good old Democrats.

For those old enough to remember, Republicans were a thorn in the side of the Mormons at the time they wanted statehood.

Don't care one whit about Huckabee. If the Dems are this committed to scaring us off Romney, then he's the best choice for McCain. McCain needs to impress me with his VP pick, and Romney would do that.

As I understand it, Romney simply said that as a Republican he would be in a better position to "do" something about gay rights, not that his positions on gay rights were more gay-friendly than Kennedy.

Please provide the quote to back up your accusation. Thanks.

Democrats must think that no one pays any attention but to what they say. Lets look at Mitt the man as a whole.
I have. And as a whole, I find the dems have reason to be scared. There are more Mormons in government office then most know. The Dems don't have a problem with Harry Reid (Mormon) Evangelicals need to get off the anti-Mormon kick. Enough already.
Mitt would be an excellent VP to McCain in 08. McCain has plenty of sack, and Mitt is great on economics. Far better than an Illinois waffling junior senator and possibly a so called "swift boat purple heart thrice joke".

The funds used to provide for the needy come from voluntary offerings from church members. Communism is forced without freedom of choice.

Church members choose to donate because it is the right thing to do, not because the government (or anybody else) makes them. They "do unto others as they would have others do unto them".

Romneys religion should no more be an issue than Obamas, Clintons, Pelosi's or Kerry's lack of religion. The fact is that of all the available options Romney is one of the few on the list that has ANY experience in the private sector.

He has also managed to be the governor of one of the most liberal states in the nation. He truly understands the idea of a government by the people, for the people. That is what he was hired to do. He was not hired to be the states moral enforcer. People have to obey their personal moral compass, not be compelled to follow someone else's beliefs.

That's why people died in the Revolution, the Civil War, both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the rest. So we could be free to choose whether to be stupid or not. It is our God given right. Mr Huckabee does not understand this, nor do his followers. He believes that people should be compelled to obey. That plan didn't work the first time Satan tried it. It won't work now.

As for those who KNOW what Mr. Romney believes, from their tone I know what they believe.

Don't think for a second you aren't getting anything more with McCain than potentially an even worse president that George W. Bush. Nixon was a conniving dirt ball that we can thank for HMOs, but at least he was smart. McCain has mediocre intelligence at best and a very malicious, corrupt underbelly. At least with Obama you have someone who has only been a mainstream politician since 2004 and he won't owe nearly the favors that Bush did flying around in an Enron jet. Take a look at how much McCain has flip-flopped since 2000. He once said that evangelicals are "agents of intolerance". Now, he kisses their ass. Look up Mccain in relation to Keating 5 S&L scandal (largest in US history), lobbying money for Georgian oil pipeline, McCain-Feingold Act that opened up more campaign finance (instead of its claim otherwise) and the "a la carte" cable scandal he cooked up with his lobbying mistress. Greed (centered around oil) is killing this country. Wake up! At least with Obama there is a chance for something better. The moment debates were corrupted when Perot ran 3 party chance died (League of Women Voters lost control and rules were rigged).

I am not a Morman, but was for Romney, and was so disapointed when he dropped out. I am now for McCain. No one in their right mind would want Obama. I pray Romney is chosen as McCain's Vice Pres, he is stong on the economy where McCain is weak we need him. Uh-oh, looks like the dems got ahold of some polling data. They are so obvious. They are afraid to fight this election based on energy/economics as their guy is totally inept on the topics. The rest of the dems are as well. Romney polls well among conservs and repubs and when mentioned in the same line as energy/economy/business, surprisingly well with democrats.
