The Alpine City council probably does twice as much work as the legislature. We're a very small town without much in the way of professional staff. The council fills in the gaps. Alpine doesn't have a webmaster or economic development supervisor. The council does it all. They at least deserve to make enough to pay for their gas expenses.

Even at their worst - like when Whitchurch and Willoughby took the stupid side of the charter school fiasco, they cooperate with each other and listen to their constituents.

The state and national elected officials would do well if they held the same ethic of public service and honest representation.

Lucky for the Alpine residents their leadership (Mayor and Council) haven't led them into a multi-million dollar budget deficit like the Mayor has in Provo. I say bring them to the level of their compatriots in other local cities.

Why more money? | 10:17 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I agree that this should happen when the city is talking about the budget. Let them justify the increase when they are determining how to spend the cities money and not at some other time.

I absolutly love living in Alpine! The government here is one of the many reasons that this community is fabulous. I hope, after being here 35 years, that I never have to move.
