BLM is working to plan best use of land

Of all the federal agencies we have to deal with, the BLM is one of the most level-headed and fair in its application of regulations. Let's continue to keep earth-worship interests in check.

Matthew, you are so wrong, I'm temporarily at a loss for words. Selma Sierra has presided over the most conspicuous era of UNbalanced management the Utah BLM has ever experienced, with extractive resources and ATVs in the "driver's seat", and water, soil, wildlife, range, and recreation coming off as poor relations. Of course, Selma recieved her marching orders from on high, the notably "level-headed" president; nevertheless, all of these crummy decisions have happened on Selma's watch, and history won't forget it. I doubt she will, either.

What part of multiple use don't you understand! Our economy is spiraling out of control due to the artificial energy crisis and you continue the mantra of no-use of domestic resources. What part of ATV's as RECREATION escapes your grasp?

Since when does "multiple use" have to include ATV's?

Example: I can set aside land for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. It is now multiple use and ATV's are still not allowed. Voila! Neat how that works.....

The word "multiple" is defined as "more than one". Find me a dictionary anywhere in the world that defines "multiple" as "ATV access is mandatory" and I will happily change my view on this issue.

Glad that ATV's are included in multiple use. Just because it's not "your use" doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it there.

"Good Grief Mark" exhibits a common ignorance of the meaning of "multiple use". The term originally meant that some compatible uses can occur on the same plot of land (grazing and timbering, for example), but implicit to this is that some uses are NOT compatible with others (strip mining and timber production, for instance). The BLM's job is to decide where the different uses can occur, and by extension, where they will NOT occur. "Good Grief Mark" and others think that "multiple use" means, "anything goes!" on every piece of federal land. Bandying terms about without understanding is the beginning of confusion and misunderstanding. And I agree that Ms Sierra and the BLM will have a lot to answer for.

Please note that Selma is an appointee of President Clinton many years ago. Her double speak is consistent with that of the Liberal left who would deny all of us the right to develop any of our natural resources. Do you realize that the BLM has put off limits millions of acres of Utah land wherein we can't even walk. The Feds own 75% of Utah Land. None of us gave them this right. Most of those involved with the BLM in the Heirarchy are Clinton appointees who were never booted when Bush came into office. Most of us still have common sense and a serious respect for the environment and know without doubt, we could explore for critically needed energy resources wherever located and not destroy nor endanger the environment. Obviously, anyone with common sense wouldn't want to ruin our foothills with ATV's or any other vehicle, however the Feds have way overstepped their right and are keeping this country from developing for energy or any other economic or recreational purposes hundreds of millions of acres of land that rightfully belong to the citzenry; not the Comradeship in our Federal Government.

Let's hold BLM accountable for the mess they're about to cement in place with these plans. Most importantly - let's keep the environment hating greed-head dollar worshipers like Matthew in check.

These plans will be better than the plans they are replacing, particularly in the realm of OHV management. But they are not nearly as good as they could have been, and in the last-minute rush to complete them may contain procedural errors that leave them open to legal challenge. Selma Sierra should get credit for completing these plans, and blame for their shortcomings.
